Reacting to THE DIRTY DOZEN (1967) | Movie Reaction - Zábava
Fun fact: The scene where one of the Dozen impersonates a general was originally supposed to be Clint Walker's character (Posey). But when Walker didn't want to do it, the director randomly selected Donald Sutherland (Pinkley), whose role was only supposed to be small and have one line. This funny scene was what led to Sutherland's breakthrough and being cast in the war satire M*A*S*H, followed by Kelly's Heroes and the rest is history.
Wow, I mentioned that detail myself separately. First heard Sutherland tell the story himself long, long ago to Tom Snyder on the late-night Tomorrow show. Along with another story of how he was offered a percentage of the profits in lieu of his regular salary for making a brief appearance as a trouserless professor in National Lampoon's Animal House, but because he didn't think it would make any money he isisted on his regular salary, and thus screwed himself out of millions of dollars.
Donald Sutherland (best known currently as President Snow or as the father of Kiefer Sutherland), was prolific in his prime. Some of my favorites of his are Eye of the Needle, The Great Train Robbery, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and The Eagle Has Landed. He also pops up in the Kate Bush video, Cloudbursting. Sutherland is always fun to watch.
John Cassevettes acted in movies so he could earn money t make his own movies.
Donald Sutherland has done so many amazing roles as mentioned, as well as I think one in "Outbreak". I really hope that she sees both "Kelly's Heroes" as well as "M*A*S*H" as they are so amazing as well and they are both war-"comedies". Donald was also in "Animal House" and another warmovie of "The Eagle Has Landed", well worth a good watch and a good set of cast!
@@jaquesshugossen9398 He was also memorable in two roles as a grief-stricken father in Don't Look Now and Ordinary People.
Lee Marvin is buried in Arlington Cemetery, he was a scout sniper in the Marines during WWII. I have visited his grave site in the past.
I did not know that. RIP Lee Marvin.
I forgot Donald Sutherland was in this - I hope you do Kelly's Heroes some time. You'll definitely get a laugh out of that one.
“Woof woof woof”
That’s my other dog imitation
Drinking some wine eating some cheese catching some rays.😂
Oh, man. Don't hit me with them negative waves so early in the morning...
@andrewcharles459 I forgot about the negative waves.🤪🤣
He's played so many great roles over the years, but seeing him so young in this I almost didn't recognize him.
Lee Marvin was a Marine during WW2. Got shot during the battle of Iwo Jima. True badass. See him in Cat Ballou (1965, western/musical) and The Professionals (1966). The Professionals is a western, and he plays with another true badass in Jack Palance. Before WW2, Palance was a professional boxer. As for Charles Bronson, you might watch him in Chato's Land, or definitely in the Death Wish series!!!! Another great review...
My favorite Lee Marvin movie was "The Great Scout And Cathouse Thursday"
He was also in an early episode of the Twilight Zone where he played a gun fighter.
Jack Palance was often the bad guy in the movies he was in because of his rugged looks. They were the result of reconstructive surgery after his face got burned while exiting a burning B-24 bomber while in the Army Air Corps in WWII. It gave him a distinctive unmistakable look that worked especially well in the westerns he was in.
Just to make a couple corrections, Lee Marvin was shot on Saipan and never made it to Iwo Jima. The Iwo Jima part got started because Iwo Jima was part of the lie that went around the internet about the medic that treated Lee Marvin being Captain Kangaroo, Bob Keshan. Also, if you're speaking about the MP Guard Sergeant, that was Richard Jaeckel not Audie Murphy.
Bronson was in the USAAF in WW2 flew 25 missions and received a Purple Heart.
The amount of star power in this movie is massive. The list of notable actors is a long one. Some were stars already and some were future superstars. As a military vet myself, I love Bronson's line at the end of the movie. Another great WW2 movie is Kelly's Heroes. Lots of star power and hilarious.
DO KELLY'S HEROES!!
@@Lugnut64052 Yeeeeeeeessssssss! Bring on Oddball!
@@stevematthews7686 Two Donald Sutherland roles!
@@Lugnut64052 "Whut's with the negative waves, man?"
Lot of same actors in Kelly's Heroes! Swap out Lee Marvin for Clint Eastwood!
My late father introduced this to me on TV when I was a kid. 40 years later it’s still one of my favorite movies. RIP dad.
My Grandfather did the same for me. At 43 this still is one of my favorites if all time!
My Dad took just himself and me out in San Fransisco and got to watch it in the theater right after it was released. I also took me to see "Bullitt" in the same theater with Steve McQueen . He, my Dad is 3rd gen San Fransiscan ( I'm 4rth gen) and with him growing up there He kept saying "you can't get there" from where ever as the Cars in the movie would turn one corner and show a different street next. We loved him for it.
Same here. My late father showed this to me when I was about ten years old. He loved this movie. Same goes for Kelly’s Heroes and The Great Escape. I grew up watching those. Good times. RIP Dad.
Me too, this movie and “the Great escape”
Same for me
Yeah Dawn one of my all-time favorites ❤ You should add...
Kellys Heroes (1970)
Clint Eastwood Donald Sutherland Telly Savalas Don Rickles Carrol O'Connor
Another classic WW II movie ....action and laugh$ 😉
Thank you for all of the amazing reactions ✌️🙂
'Where Eagles Dare' and 'Kellys Heroes' (along with 'The Dirty Dozen') are required viewing-with-Dad material lol!
See what sending out them negative waves did
totally agree with kellys heroes. here are 3 charles bronson movies with him in the starring role-death wish 1 and 2. if you like the first one, i would definitely check out the second one. and mr majestyk. and a movie called the great escape with charles bronson in a supporting acting role.one of my favorite war movies of all time!
Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Telly Savales, what a cast for this movie. If you want another western, Once Upon a Time in the West is a masterpiece, starring Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda and Jason Robards. Just an amazing movie.
Brother, when you're right you're right!!!
Donald sutherland.
Jim Brown
Don't forget Jim Brown.
Telly Savalas did do The Dirty Dozen, the deadly mission1987 and the fatal mission 1988, where he basically repeated his role from 1970 Kellys Heroes.
Ernest Borgnine, General Worden, was only actor that was in all Dirty Dozen movies Also starred with Lee Marvin in 1973, Emperor of the North Pole and 1985 The Dirty Dozen Next Mission, they appeared both in 1955 Violent Saturday and Bad Day at Black Rock, 1953 3D movie The Stranger Wore a Gun.
Ernest Borgnine is one of those who co starred with lot of top name actors during his 60 year career from Randolph Scott in 1950s to Bruce Willis in 2010.
One of Lee Marvin's best performances in my opinion is the film "Hell in the Pacific" which also starred a very famous Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune who was in The Seven Samurai. That's well worth a watch.
Mifune costarred with Charles Bronson in a very good Western, Red Sun.
😊
@@user-mg5mv2tn8q👍👌
Kelly's Heroes is also a good warmovie with Clint Eastwood😊
The Best 🤙
And both Telly Savalas & Donald Sutherland were in that movie too 😉
I love your reactions to these films. You need to see The Great Escape (another Charles Bronson movie), The Professionals (another Lee Marvin movie) and Stalag 17 (just because it's great and it's another William Holden film).
The problem with letting him go is that they would all be sent back to prison for immediate execution of their sentence.
Another great World War II movie starring Lee Marvin is the big red one. It came out in 1980 and it costars Mark Hamill. It’s a great movie to track down.
Big Red One is damn awesome. I run lots of RPG's of various genres, and Lee Marvin's character from Big Red One has been the inspiration of so many military NPC's from my games. Love that movie and may be my fave WWII movie. The intro from WWI was damn good too. Too few reactors ever give the Big Red One a chance.
Dawn, Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson were pretty good friends off screen, a really good but little known movie starring the both of them is "Death Hunt" from 1981, sure you will enjoy it.
Death Hunt is a really good film. It's also based on real events I believe.
A sadly forgotten movie to most people.
He's right ! Death Hunt is your kind of movie I think. Possibly "Best movie Ever".
I’m old enough to remember eyeing that movie in the theatre.
me too, and BTW Jennifer Jones was one of my favorite actresses, "Duel in the Sun" one of her best?@@jenniferjones2863
(11:29) That's Clint Walker, a man who's 6 6 and had a waistline of 32 inches. Freak of nature.
Interesting story. At 26, Clint secured an audition with Cecil B DeMille for The Ten Commandments. On the way there, Clint saw a woman standing on the roadside next to a car with a flat tire. Clint was running late, but he couldn't bear leaving her unassisted, so he helped her with her flat. The woman offered to pay him, but Clint declined. Clint told her he had to hurry because he missed his interview with Mr. DeMille.
Clint arrived at the studio and was told to wait. Hours later, Cecil B DeMille entered the room, angry, and demanded an explanation. Halfway through, Cecil interrupted Clint with a laugh, and said, "Young man, you can stop right there, because I know exactly what happened, but what you don't know is, the woman your helped is my secretary."
Clint got the part, and more work thereafter....
The fake General was Donald Sutherland, another amazing actor. He played in dozens of movies, but one of my favourites is a little known WWII/Spy film called The Eye Of The Needle, where he is a German spy who learns of the D-Day invasion plans and is desperately trying to get back to Berlin with the information. He ends up on a remote island in northern Scotland and the tension builds from there.
You may know of Donald Sutherland's famous actor son, Kiefer Sutherland. Among many other great roles, he was one of the vampires in The Lost Boys, as well as one of the bad kids in the teenage coming of age movie, Stand By Me.
He was also considered one of the brat pack of the 80s
Donald Sutherland was also President Snow in the Hunger Games franchise.
Yeah The Eye Of The Needle is one of my favorites of his movies, kind of went under the radar as far as being a popular film, it would be great to see her do a reaction, I think she will be the first ever to do so, also would like her to react to, “The Final Countdown” about a USA carrier going back in time. And react to “Excalibur” the one that had Liam Nelson, Patrick Steward.
Jefferson (the man who dropped the grenades into the vent tubes and got shot), was Jim Brown - amazing athlete... James Nathaniel Brown (February 17, 1936 - May 18, 2023) was an American football fullback, civil rights activist, and actor..."Often mentioned as the greatest player in NFL history, this ruggedly handsome African American fullback for the Cleveland Browns first appeared on movie screens in the western Rio Conchos (1964), followed by a strong supporting role as convict commando "Jefferson" in the terrific WWII action film The Dirty Dozen (1967). He was kept busy with additional on screen appearances in other fast paced films including Ice Station Zebra (1968), 100 Rifles (1969) and El Condor (1970).
Brown's popularity grew during the boom of "blaxploitation" cinema in the early 1970s portraying tough "no nonsense" characters in Slaughter (1972), Black Gunn (1972) and Three the Hard Way (1974). His on-screen work in the latter part of the 1970s and 1980s was primarily centered around guest spots on popular TV shows such as CHiPs (1977) and Knight Rider (1982). However, Brown then resurfaced in better quality films beginning with his role as a fiery assassin in The Running Man (1987), he parodied the blaxploitation genre along with many other African-American actors in the comedy I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988), played an ex-heavyweight boxer in the sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks! (1996) and ironically played an ex-football legend in the Oliver Stone directed sports film Any Given Sunday (1999).
Additionally, Jim Brown was a ringside commentator for the first six events of the Ultimate Fighting Championships from 1993 through to 1996. A bona fide legend in American sports and a successful actor, he continues to remain busy in front of the camera with recent appearances in various sports shows & TV productions." - czcams.com/video/z05uHuQPQdg/video.html
OK...she has to see Kelly's Heroes, now...she is going to go crazy for Oddball. LOL
Clint Walker, who played Posey, was 6 feet 6 inches tall and was once voted the best physique in Hollywood.
Jim Brown passed away 6 months ago. Three of the actors who played the 12 are still with us. Donald Sutherland (#2), Stuart Cooper (#5) and Colin Maitland (#7). Trini Lopez (#10) passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID. Was very sad.
George Kennedy was the "observer" in the Dirty Dozen. He was also in the Naked Gun he played Cpt. Ed Hocken.
He made a great bad guy in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.
@@stupidsmart-phone6911 He was in a few Clint Eastwood movies, including _The Eiger Sanction._ Clint is famous for casting the same people over and over again if he likes their work, or if he thinks they aren't getting enough work in the industry.
He and Lee Marvin were really good in Delta Force too.
He won an Oscar for Cool Hand Luke.
This is a great film. Some other war films worth watching are Kelly's Heroes, The Longest Day, Went The Day Well & The Eagle Has Landed.
"Went the Day Well" is pretty obscure and I was fortunate to see it a few years ago. Great movie from, I believe, Ealing Studios.
eagle has landed is a must
You can't forget, Where Eagles Dare with, Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood! An Epic!
"Broad sword calling Danny boy."
Went the day well?
One of the best war movies I've ever seen, I often mention it in online comments, as a 'must-see', it's so raw & brutal, especially the fireside despatch by the postmistress!!
I think it's a great display of the courage & fortitude of our little Island, in the face of the massive Nazi war machine, & our determination not to be beaten........at any cost!!
@@ole9421 As a kid, I saw this at the theater by myself when it first came out and was thrilled! As well as being a first-rate war film, I think it's one of the first of the modern hardcore action movies. Once it gets started it never stops!
Every time I see Clint Walker, I always see him as Cheyenne on that late 50s TV show of the same name.
Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine, Clint Walker, Richard Jaeckel are all veterans, having served during or after the Second World War. Marvin and Bronson were wounded in the line of duy. And, in accordance to military regulations, you never salute without wearing a hat.
Saluting without headgear is just fine, there are many circumstances for that. The only time you should don headgear prior to saluting is for reveille and retreat and the national anthem if you're wearing a uniform that has headgear. The only exception I can think of is being on a flightline where headgear that cannot be fastened securely to the head should not be worn at all, but you would render salutes and honors as needed as long as safety is not jeopardized.
Telly Savalas and George Kennedy also served in WWII.
Only in the navy. In the other branches you salute, covered or uncovered.
Yep, the good old days when WWII movies had actual WWII (and post WWII) vets in them!
Other great 'Lee Marvin' films are, "Point Blank", "The Professionals", "The Big Heat", "Violent Saturday", "Ship of Fools"; Charles Bronson films, "Once Upon a Time in The West", "The Great Escape", "The Mechanic", and "Hard Times".
The fake General was, Donald Sutherland, he's been in loads of films, the ones I recommend are, "Klute", "Don't Look Now", "Invasion of The Body Snatchers" 1978, "Kelly's Heroes", "The Eagle Has Landed", "The Italian Job" 2003.
Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine also starred in Emperor of the North (1973).
Robert Aldrich directed that film, along with "Dozen". I think he was more sadistic than Sam Peckinpah ("The Wild Bunch", "Straw Dogs').
The Major General was Ernest Borgnine. He starred in McHale's Navy on TV, and he was the voice of Mermaid Man on Spongebob Squarepants.
And From Here to Eternity.
Lee Marvin has been nominated for, and won, many awards, but he only won one Oscar: Best Actor in a Leading role for the Western comedy _Cat Ballou_ (1966). Co-starring Jane Fonda, in the title role, Marvin plays twin brothers, one good the other bad. _Cat Ballou_ will definitely get a Best Movie Ever!
Instead of watching _The Magnificent Seven_ again why not watch the film it was based on: Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, _Seven Samurai._ It's a much longer film, nearly four hours, which allows us not only to get to know the "Seven" better but also delves more fully into the personalities of the villagers and the life of the village.
yes for Cat Ballou
Cat Ballou
The Seven Samurai should not be watched with dubbing. Stick it subtitles
@@jenniferjones2863 I wasn't aware it was even available in a dubbed version.
When accepting his Best Actor Oscar for Cat Ballou, Lee Marvin gave half of the credit to his horse in the film.
I nearly forgot about George Kennedy. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge under George Patton. He won two Bronze Stars. He won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Ernest Borgnine, served in the Navy and won a Best Actor Oscar.
I didn’t know that about Kennedy
That’s cool
If remember correctly he made captain.
😎👍 if you like Lee Marvin you should watch “Cat Ballou”, he plays two characters. Great actor.
Lee Marvin was a bona fide bad ass. He was a Marine Corps machine gunner shot on an island in the Pacific during World War II. He’s buried in Arlington national cemetery without pomp, or circumstance. He’s buried simply as a Marine. Semper Fidelis.
That big guy you're talking about is Clint Walker. He actually fell out of a ski lift and a pole went through his chest. He survived that but died younger than he should have.He was a good actor. Yellowstone Kelley is a good one.
The big guy is Clint Walker a Western star in late 50's 60' had his own series " Cheyenne"
This one of the greatest movies ever. All star cast. You should also watch "The Great Escape".
Jefferson was played by Jim Brown . Hall of fame football running back. All time running record until the great Walter Payton passed him. R.I.P. to both.
Jim Brown (Jefferson) was a pro "American football" player who went into the movies, after his playing career was over.
Dawn Marie - Do you know Kieffer Sutherland? The guy that played the fake General is his father Donald. More recently he has been in Hunger Games. He was also in JFK.
He was in crossing lines an interesting series too
One of the best war movies ever. I love the war games scene. Charles Bronson was in another great war movie, The Great Escape (1963), and in Once Upon a Time in the West (1969), one of the greatest westerns ever.
This is a favorite for sure. This movie is mentioned in Sleepless in Seattle. Other films for these actors, Charles Bronson in Mr. Majestic, Lee Marvin in Cat Ballou, Ernest Borgnine in Marty. Also, the handsome black soldier was American football star Jim Brown, and the Latino soldier was famous singer Trini Lopez.
Kelly's Hero's is another great war movie from that cinematic era.
The Professionals is a dark war film...It's excellent. Kelly's Heroes is another quirky war film.
Wonderful reactions from Dawn Marie, to the original and best The Dirty Dozen.
Yeah also there are lack of criminal reactions for not reacting to this best war film
This movie means a lot to my dad. When it was released he checked out his younger brother from the hospital to see it in theaters. He died of leukemia shortly after.
I was later named after him.
Not only one of my favourite movies, but also one of my favourite books. Worth a read even now.
Ah, this is a great movie, I used to watch this and Where Eagles Dare a lot when I was a kid. Definitely worth checking out Where Eagles Dare if you've not seen it I reckon.
The gentle giant "Posey" hit a man "only once" and drove his jawbone UP into his brain is Clint Walker! He starred in a series in the late 50s and early 60s in a: western show called Cheyenne!
He was my childhood hero and the show is actually good. Also when you see his demeanor he wasn't acting, that's really how he was, always a gentleman!!
And if you like Lee Marvin you need to see the movie that he won his Oscar in! It's a Western comedy called "Cat Ballou" starring of course Lee Marvin and Jane Fonda. A very well done and very entertaining movie. Also Lee Marvin is a good guy in this movie!!
At 6'6"' Clint Walker was a gentleman on and off the screen. Clint started weigh training during the making of Cheyenne. The director asked him to stop because he was getting too big. As a kid, he was my idol, too!
Lee Marvin was a US Marine combat veteran, and took part in multiple battles across the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was one tough bastard, all the way around.
Clint Walker (Posy) was 6'6 and indeed was a gentle giant. One of the nicest men to ever lives and who always had time for his fans up until his death in his early 90s. He played the title character in the western series "Cheyenne".
I've watched the Dirty Dozen since I was a little tyke in the late 60s. First saw it on it's network TV premier in 1968 or 1969. I've seen it at least a dozen times since, never get tired of it.
Another great WW2 adventure movie is Where Eagles Dare with Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton.
Charles Bronson must see films :
HardTimes and The Mechanic;
Lee Marvin must sees :
The Professionals and The Killers.
Some more movies with Charles Bronson are The Great Escape, Charo's Land, and the Death Wish series of which there were five movies. A good movie with Lee Marvin as a good guy is Paint Your Wagon, which also starred a young Clint Eastwood.
Chatos land
Kelly's Heroes is one of my favorite WW2 movies along with this one. Love Donald Sotherland's characters in both of these movies, especially in Kelly's Heroes(Oddball)!! LOL
During the war game, The Dirty Dozen moved through a ‘live-fire range’ where real bullets were used. No one is supposed to go there for safety reasons. Changing arm bands to change sides was not allowed. The Dirty Dozen broke all the rules, like in a real war.
Maggot was played by the legendary Telly Savalas. He played Kojak, one of the best TV police crime drama when I was teenager. Jim Brown was a superstar football player. Trini Lopez was a famous singer. The gentle giant Clint Walker played a lot of lead roles in film and TV. The fake general is the great Donald Sutherland. I can almost guarantee you’ll be reacting to one of his movies soon.
I recommend ‘Kelly’s Heroes’ starring Clint Eastwood. Starring with him were Telly Savalas (Maggot) and Donald Sutherland (fake general). I guarantee you will LOVE them both in this film!
Lee Marvin played the same role in a sequel. Unfortunately there was always a ‘Maggot’ in the bunch.
The film ‘The Dirty Dozen’ has a special place in a lot young guys’ hearts. There was an homage to it in Tom Hank’s film ‘Sleepless in Seattle’. Tom Hanks and Victor Garber reminisce about ‘The Dirty Dozen’ and you get to see two grown men cry talking about the film. LOL.
One of my favorite scenes from "Sleepless in Seattle"...after Rita Wilson tearfully talks about an old romance movie, Tom Hanks and Victor Garber start talking about "The Dirty Dozen" and get all choked up talking about the final battle. :-)
"The Devils Brigade" is another great one.
The First Special Services Force!
Lee Marvin was actually a US Marine who took part in 21 landings on Pacific Islands in 1944, before being badly wounded during the 5 week battle for the Island of Saipan. His wounds were so bad, he spent over a year in Military Hospitals before being honourably discharged ...
fun fact Ernest Borgnine, known for his tough-guy roles, brought the character Mermaid Man to life on SpongeBob SquarePants. Despite his gruff persona on screen, Borgnine was delighted to voice the lovable but slightly senile superhero alongside Tim Conway as Barnacle Boy. It was a delightful surprise for fans to see Borgnine's comedic side shining through in this animated role.
Lee Marvin: *"Big Red One",* one of the best WW2 films ever made.
Chas. Bronson: *"Once Upon a Time in the West",* the fourth western masterpiece by Sergio Leone (Dollar trilogy fella).
In the Mad Magazine parody of this movie Jim Brown wasn't shot by a German but a Cleavland Brown fan angry that he left the Browns for Hollywood.
Enjoyed your reaction.
Jimmy Stewart in "Strategic Air Command". ( Jimmy served in WW2 and retired as a General in real life.)
He was also in the Caine Mutiny, a classic although I don't remember Marvin's part. He was in many WWII themed movies and was wounded on Saipan (like my dad) in real life
Another great Lee Marvin movie is "Emperor of the North." It also stars Ernest Borgnine from "The Dirty Dozen."
Great reaction to a classic Dawn...
What is very ironic is that I just showed my GF this movie (which she has never seen before) this afternoon. 😁
If you want to see more of Lee Marvin. I would recommend the western/comedy, "Cat Ballou", with him and Jane Fonda. Marvin plays two roles.
The right-hand man to Marvin's character, was Richard Jaeckal. As far as I know, he was always a supporting actor. I remember him best in this film and also in the John Wayne western, "Chisum".
Lee Marvin and John Cassavetes (Franko) appeared together in _The Killers_ (1964), a fantastic neo-noir crime film directed by Don Siegel. At the time of its release, Marvin said it was his favorite film. _The Killers_ is also notable for being Ronald Reagan's last movie before going into politics (he was the governor of California from 1967-75 and US president from 1981-88) and the only time he played a villain (unless you count his years in politics).
There was a thing fairly popular in this era to plant a singing star in the cast. He would perform a well-known song. It always comes off kind of cheesy. Triuni Lopez was that in this film. He was very famous, particularly for the song he does here.
Donald Sutherland was Hawkeye Pierce in the M.A.S.H. movie, which was a pretty faithful rendering of the book, unlike Alan Alda's weepy and pathologically obstructive character in the TV series. Give the film a try.
Telly Savalas had a very popular detective series, Kojak with a catch phrase, "Who loves ya, baby."
Dawn Marie's reactions are so honest, it brings a smile to my face.
30:00 "Haagen-Dazs... He wants some ice cream."
Ralph Meeker (Captain Kinder) played Novelist Mickey Spillane's Private Investigator Mike Hammer in Kiss Me Deadly (1955), an influential film noir. A film worthy of reaction. :)
Clint Walker (Posey) starred in a good western movie "Yellowstone Kelly" (1959) with Edd "Cookie" Byrnes ("77 Sunset Strip" TV detective series - teen heart throb). Clint had his own western TV series "Cheyenne" (1955 - 1962). In 1971, he survived a skiing accident in Ca. when he fell puncturing his heart with one of his ski poles.
Glad to see someone reacting to this movie, it’s a fun one. Apocalypse Now, of course has iconic status now. It’s actually based on Heart of Darkness with the Vietnam War as context.
Another great war movie with Lee Marvin is "The Big Red One". Another Charles Bronson war movie is "The Great Escape". I'd love to see you react to my favorite movie of all time- "The Sand Pebbles". I have NEVER seen anyone on CZcams do a reaction of it.
Fun Fact 2 : This Movie had 3 Tv movie sequals & series between 1985 & 1988 , in the first a new team was once again led by Lee Marvin`s Major Reisman but for the next two new teams were led by Major Wright played by Telly Savalas , these were followed by a short lived (12 episode) Tv Series in which a regular team were led by Lieutenant Danko played by Ben Murphy..
EXCELLENT, one of my all time favorites! Great cast from Bronson and Marvin to Sutherland to Sevalas and the immortal JIM BROWN the football legend. 1) Dawnie presses play 2)...

The big guy was Norman "Clint" Walker was an American actor. He played cowboy Cheyenne Bodie in the ABC/Warner Bros. western series Cheyenne from 1955 to 1963. Walker's good looks and imposing physique (he stood 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) tall with a 48 in (120 cm) chest and a 32 in (81 cm) waist) helped him land an audition where he won the lead role in the TV series Cheyenne. Billed as "Clint Walker", he was cast as Cheyenne Bodie, a roaming cowboy hero in the post-American Civil War era. His casting was announced in June 1955. Peace out.
Lee Marvin also sang a wonderful song called “Wandering Star” it was in the musical comedy western movie named, Paint Your Wagon.
Clint Eastwood also stars.
One of my all time favorites! Great cast and I luv Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson! Another similar movie is The Great Escape! Another all-star cast set during WW2. Great reaction you had me laughing and totally enjoying this great show all over again. Thanks❤💛
Well finally! One of the best war movies. I know it’s an oldie but a definite goodie!
Lee Marvin, man. The king.
Telly Savales (Maggot) had a degree in psychology and he used it to really portray Maggot. I met him ages ago and he was kind and willing to talk about his films and tv shows.
Another great WW2 movie from the 60's is "Where Eagles Dare" starring Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton. Beautiful locations, real explosions, great stunts, clever writing, mystery, intrique, lots of action, and strong female operatives.
"Broad Sword calling Danny Boy" I Have to Agree "Where Eagles Dare" is a great watch , I would also surgest the war movie "Battle of The Bulge" 1965 with an all star cast including Charles Bronson & Telly Savalas
This is a great classic with a lot of star power!
A few Charles Bronson movies I really enjoy that are not on his "more popular movie" list:
Red Sun
Mr. Majestyk
Hard Times
Finally somebody listed Mr. Majestyk. I really like that more than the Death Wish films, though they have their moments. The Mechanic another good sleeper Bronson effort.
When I was a toddler I would sit on my Dad's lap late at night and watch Lee Marvin in the TV show "M Squad". The black guy is legendary football star Jim Brown, who led the NFL in rushing with the Cleveland Browns for 8 of the 9 years he played. The Big Guy is Clint Walker, who got his start in Hollywood as Cheyenne Bodie on the TV show "Cheyenne" in the late fifties. Maggot is played by Telly Savalas, and got into show business thru the US State Dept., where he was a host, director and producer of News programming in the early fifties. Charles Bronson starred in one of the greatest spaghetti westerns ever made in Sergio Leone's ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST (1969, US release). One of my favorite Lee Marvin films has him co-star with John Wayne again in DONOVAN'S REEF (1963).
Lee Marvin won an Oscar for Cat Ballou, a western with Jane Fonda. Highly recommended.
Review Shaft, Castle Keep, Where Eagles Dare, and The Unforgiven (Clint Eastwood.) Also, think about doing Star Trek (1966 - 1969.)
Lee Marvin was shot in the can in WWII
Something jumped up and bit him.
Literally every actor in this movie was a superstar, became a superstar, or was famous [Jim Brown ("Jefferson") was a football star, Trini Lopez (Jiminez) was a singer, and even Richard Jaeckel (sgt. Bowren) was in about 80 movies]. Charles Bronson was a superstar in the 1960s and 1970s and even into the 1980s.
John Cassavetes, actor and director.
Of course!!!!@@merkury06
Lee Marvin was a combat Marine in WWII. Imagine a guy like that becoming an excellent, famous actor
Love watching your reactions. You're the best.
please watch Stalag 17
As others suggest, Once Upon a Time in the West is a great Spaghetti western with Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda and Jason Robards. Also of note - this is Sergio Leone's movie after filming the Good the Bad and the Ugly. He did 2 more after that (a Fistful of Dynamite and his gangster film Once Upon A Time in America). It would be nice to finish his directorial portfolio.
Four of the actors (Ernest Borgnine, George Kennedy, Jim Brown and Clint Walker) from The Dirty Dozen went on to voice act as the Commando Elite action figures in Small Soldiers (1998).
Love your reactions!
YESSSS!!!!!!! AWESOME THANK YOU : ) Kelly's Heroes next please please please : )
The movie was based on an actual unit of misfits who were also highly capable soldiers known as the Filthy Thirteen.
For those who don't know, Lee Marvin was an actual marine who served during WW2.
One of my favorite Charles Bronson movies is the white buffalo, and lee Marvin is the big red one.
A lee marvin movie that nobody talks about is Donnavon's Reef. It actually stars john wayne but lee marvin is hilarious in it.
Donald Sutherland was great in the movie Ordinary People, which won the best picture Oscar in 1980. A very different role for him.
My uncle Dub looked and sounded exactly like Lamont Waltman "Lee" Marvin. My uncle was about two years older than him.
7:12 You probably won't realise who this guy (Jim Brown) is. He's regarded as one of, if not the, greatest American Football players of all time. Sadly passed away in the Summer of 2023. Retired at his peak from playing to pursue an acting career, so when you see him near the end of the movie sprinting across that courtyard, he was only maybe 30 yrs old and still wicked fast. I guess most folks would know him from the comedy Mars Attacks! where he plays the casino employee Byron who has a fist fight with the aliens allowing Tom Jones & Annette Benning to escape in a small plane.
The armband colours seemed to confuse you a bit - green was neutral (umpires, observers, etc). The two sides were red against blue. Our heroes sneaked through by "cheating" by keeping changing their armband colours.
