I don't think it's a coincidence that you see Kanye and Lupe both seeming more open and aggressive at this point in their careers. In the beginning of their careers they had to bite their tongues for the sake of their images. Once you've reached a certain level of respect and maturity, you're more able to express the ideas you've been holding back for so long.
I don't think they've gotten more aggressive in nature but when you finally have the opportunity to release some aggression it all comes out at once. Still love them both. Great artists

Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Amazing book that if everyone read. It would open your eyes to why a lot of things are the way they are now.
This interview was an absolute masterpiece in itself, Lupe spoke the exact opposite of "politically correct" and I appreciate that so much about him. I'm gonna miss interviews like this but at least he's leaving us with a great one to remember him by.

At first I thought Lupe was quitting music all together and I was pissed. It was one of those you don't know what you had until it's gone moments. And then when I realised he was going indie, there was a sigh of relief. It just made me appreciate him even more now. It made me appreciate his art, what it taught me, the self-reflection it arose and the way it made me reevaluate society. And I'm happy for him, without the pressures of a big label he's free to make music in anyway he sees fit. That must be really exciting for an artist like him (especially after the drama from the lasers days) and, more importantly, it's exciting for fans who appreciate genuine talent from an artist that speaks from the heart. People like to throw around the word genius at people who don't live up to that title (Kanye?) but I can say, hand on heart, Lupe is a genius.

If I learned anything for this interview it's that Lupe Fiasco is a REAL dude in every sense of the word. He may not have the most popular opinion, but he says what is on his mind and holds no punches. I can respect that.

I agree, the thing that made me like Lupe, aside from his music, was the fact that he wasn't like other rappers in terms of the way he carries himself. I guess the business changed him to the point that he had to change his demeanor so people would take him seriously and not try to punk him. That Food and Liquor/Skateboarding kid that he was is either gone for good, repressed deep down, or saved for more private settings.

Lupe is one of the greatest rappers of my time & he can be full of shit too. I see where he's coming from but our ancestors have worked too hard just have the generations after them roll over or be so passive.
The whole not claiming hip hop as "a black thing" or things along those lines are killing me. You don't go to an HBCU that has a minor white etc. population & not call it black anymore. I'm reaching a teeny bit but hip hop is a black movement. Jazz started as a black movement. Blues was a black movement. Some factions of rock started as black movements.
We're the only people that sit back & let our culture get swepped right from under our feet. We're the most copied people yet we can't even claim what we originated. It makes my skin crawl to hear another black person say black people can't cling dearly to what WE STARTED!

That's how you fall into the trap of saying i'm black therefore I'm hip-hop and if this is true then the inverse must also be true I'm hip-hop therefore I'm black and this obviously isn't true.

I was always a listener of hip-hop since I was a kid, but I first fell in love with hip-hop when I first listened to Fahrenheit 1st & 15th 2: Revenge of the Nerds, by this man. Sad that this is supposedly he's last stream of interviews. Regardless of if you agree w/ him or not, you have to respect his candid nature. Always showing love to people he has love for and saying fuck you to the ones he doesn't and never being scared to disagree with the majority opinion, which too many artist are.
Sway does the best interviews. Sound quality is unmatched too.

Tried to force their own records on him, and he wouldn't do it. Now that he's free to make his music the way he's been wanting to make it you will see he never fell off he just finally got his roadblocks out the way.

He's breaking out of all the chains that were attached to him from people criticising him, trying to sweep him under the rug, keep him off radio the whole nine he probably been waiting years to air everyone out.
Seeing Lupe mention the Pedagogy of the Opressed made me raise my eyebrow, I'm literally reading the spanish version of Paulo Freire's book right now due to a course I'm taking at my college (and I was bored out of my mind since it was.. well stuff I was familiar with already, it's not a book to read twice in the same year).
One thing that bothers me about the book however, is the dude be over using assonance and I can't take what I'm reading seriously. Like literally every 7 or 8 sentences he uses the same suffix 3 to 5 times in the same sentence and it leads to the most confusing stuff you'll ever read.

Just imagine how it would be, if Lupe (even better together with Nikki Jean, The Soundtrakk & maybe some other Lupe recommended ARTiststs) actually sign with this already an amazing team. Yeah fantasy, maybe I dreamin' too much, but I can definitely see that! This could easily save the artistic form within hip-hop (or music literally, cause this shit would be beyond hip-hop. Meaningful, artful, soulful and still the gritty trunk music for people of every color, ethnic, age...). That would be just a monster team... a music for the PEOPLE.

When Lupe came out he seemed more mature, more concise, more uplifting (generally speaking).....now he's condescending, contrarian (just for the sake of being so, IMO), and worst of all he's just more mean-spirited and pessimistic. Lupe is never going to be embraced by the masses because some people just have not grasp the concept. Our culture now is so use to simple shit that decent rappers in the game are called great. GKMC is a classic based on timing and when it came out, opportunistic at best. It was a breath a fresh air to hear it so we are going to give that album critical acclaim. We are so use to garbage that we take anything we get with some sort of substance. Majority of my generation do not know how to listen to music in general. The youth will not appreciate until they reach higher train of thought and that may never happen in their lifetime but Lupe's time will come when gets the credit he deserves.
