- Earlier this year, Kanye West and Sway made headlines when Ye proclaimed that he gave Sway his first TV. For the first time since the incident in March, the two hip hop heads talk in person.
Their interview began with Sway expressing his appreciation for Kanye's Yeezus tour.
"My demo is the Yeezus tour." Says Ye. "Pure creativity... The Yeezus tour is more of a film, or broadway or play idea, Watch the Throne is more of a Rap idea."
Ye then began to discuss his production inspiration from greats like Diamond D & Showbiz.
From discussions of DONDA, to fashion, to the status of his Red Octobers, West passionately says...
"I am the #1 most impactful artist of our generation. I am Shakespeare in the flesh. Walt Disney. Nike. Google... Do you want to marginalize me until I am out my moment?"
Sway's next question sparked excitement and passion from Kanye.
"Why don't you empower yourself, and don't need them, & do it yourself?" Asked Sway.
"You ain't got the answers Sway!" Shouts Ye. "You ain't spent 13 million dollars of your own money trying to empower yourself!"
After the quick heated conversation, they both brought their talk back to music. Why was Pusha T & Big Sean not on the tour? Why did he mention that Nicki Minaj had the best verse on Monster?

I will never forget this interview not only because it’s ye but because there was a snowstorm in New York, when this interview was out, and my father was alive, classic interview classic day 🙏🏼👑🕊️
This was terrific and very interesting. 2 strong personalities clashed for a moment but they were able to reel it back in. This shit made me subscribe. Look Kanye is a very passionate person and he has been wronged a lot. He probably felt criticized but Sway did an outstanding job of bringing Kanye back into a comfortable place and Kanye humbled himself and shared his woes. The industry people try to trick black, high profile people right back out of their money with bad investments or other ways. That was real love Sway showed and that heat brought very valuable info out of Kanye and then he explained beautifully.

He specifically mentions Lucian Grainge, a quick google search tells me that guy is one of the highest-ranking music executives today. Kanye's reached a glass ceiling with his sucess and he can't seem to break through it. When he talks about race, his specific problems with fashion might not seem like a big deal to most, but it reflects the wider issues of systemic racism. Sure his ego is unappealing to many, and you can brush him off as an asshole, but that doesn't mean there aren't racial and class barriers at play. Came back to listen to this interview 9 years later because Kanye admitted that Sway DID have the answers. Nonetheless Kanye has come a long way and I give him his props and I also give Sway his props for keeping it cool! Much respect to the both of them.
