2:29 "This drum pattern is excellent for ANY genre you can imagine"
*proceeds to list EDM sub-genres*
I'll be honest, this is one of my go-tos for rock and metal, too. It's a good one.
It’s quite literally everywhere you look. An extremely overused drum beat. It’s a very basic one, and minor alterations are made quite often, but otherwise it’s basic. I suggest putting more time into your drums, give them personality. It does wonders.
@@Lovecraftia I'm not a drummer, I just program in some drums for the scratch track then hire one of my old college buddies to track drums for me, he's pretty damn good.
@@CraigKeidel Ah okay. A bit of my response might have been a tad bit on my personal taste towards the drum beat, seeing as I like to work with drums quite a lot. I wouldn’t say I’m a drummer, but moreso a producer who likes to really scrutinize a song for more than just the melody and bass. I’m new to it all, though, so my word isn’t gospel, but I have spotted a thing or two in the time I’ve been doing production with music.
@@Lovecraftia That's fair. I tried drums but I can't do four limbs at once. Stick to what you know; I do bass, guitar, keys and vox...
Love it brother, the hi-hat swing trick is fire!! I never thought about doing that, appreciate the value!
you got it bro!!! thanks for tuning in man
@@bizzzlll61 you want a hip-hop melody? I got you :)
Yeah that was a great tip
@@nikokotoulas you two are funny! lol
How can we do this in FL?
Something to consider is that on a typical drum kit it's impossible playing both an open and a closed hihat sound at the same time. You may want to make the sound more realistic by removing the closed hihats at the points where you have an open one (and actually, the beats in the transitions from open to close or the other way around can sound different as well, something to consider for extra realism). Unless, of course, you want the synthetic/unrealistic sound as an intentional effect.
You are correct, but 1. Realism maybe isn’t the main objective when producing and 2. There isn’t actually an open hihat in any of the beats, the first example is a relaxed hihat and the second and third example is actually a splash, which is a small 8”-12” inch cymbal.
That’s interesting. Never knew that

that shaker tip is amazing, it's so simple but gets over my head. Thanks!
Recently got into making music with absolutely no musical experience ever. This guy (among a few other creators) has been an absolute godsend for me.
That velocity trick at the end with the shakers is actually what I’ve been looking for, thanks for the tip

Can't thank you enough for your invaluable help Alex. Have a rocking holiday season Mr. Rome..
Four on the floor is just kick on every beat in 4/4 time signature. Hi hats and snares can do whatever, no specific rules for them.
AKA EDM producers' best friend
Great video man thanks for sharing this!!
Hi bro.. do you have a good understanding of Logic? I’m finalizing the instrumental for a song I wrote and it would be nice to have a second opinion
When u r busy with ur work so much u ignore ur broken glass frame to repair

This comment made me cringe so much more than it should have.
That's a particular style he's going for :D
Damn I’ve been watching you since 4 years ago in 2016 when I used to watch your videos for help with my music class in school. I was so confused why you were only getting maybe 1k views per video, glad to see you’re finally blowing up like you deserve man!

7:54 He ment to say "Swing" instead of "Quantize"
@@jastejkohli5396 It's not. Quantizing means move the notes into a grid, while "swinging" means moving the second and fourth beat off grid to create a swing feel.
@@jastejkohli5396 think hes just trying to let everyone know mate
@@jastejkohli5396 Bruh... Be happy... Now you now how to diferenciate "quantization" and "swing"
It's still quantisation though. he is applying swing to the grid. The notes are still quantised to the grid.
@@jrnas8046 makes sense...
I gotta agree there. I’m having a hell of a time writing this stuff down and transposing to my volca. Naming where your placing stuff outside the context of your DAW would be really helpful.

Man i love u , u deserve a lot more supps! Appreciate your work man ! Have a great christmas :)
Thanks Alex. I think you explained things very well for the "not so musically talented". I am a self taught edm producer so I don't know all of the technical jargon used in the industry (yet). I have built these 4 drum patterns out and saved them as templates. That way i can grab and go and not even think about it.
Jesus loves yall and died for us! Jesus calls for all of us to repent!!!!!!
Merry Christmas Alex!
Thanks bro, good vibes
This was so good! Thank you so much!
People shouldn't rely too heavily on rapid hats. Build that melody too.
It is a video on only drum patterns tho
@@prodbyaddi1517 ikr
Agreed. Or at least cut some of the closed hats when you have something else happening. Variety is the spice of percussion.
I too play melodies on drums
@@dominicallizzo7907 Drum heads are a tuned instrument, too. And a lot of percussion has been used melodically in music - the marimba, for example.
Thanks Alex for teaching us music production I promise I'll make you proud one day :D

I just haven’t seen anyone before creating such of awesome drums with audio files

Youre a legend, thank you for this!
The swing trick was totally new to me - but it did mean I learnt about a whole new feature in Ableton! (Grooves!)
Just starting using ableton. How to get to composing within ableton. I only have learned how to lay tracks using wav. Files and midi pads. Not sure how to use the pads correctly yet 😜🤠😜
Thank you for sharing, it's very helpful❤

The Synths of the Future Bass are outstanding. Such a warm beautiful sound. Did you already explain how to create them? Love your content.
He has an EDM Patterns videos that's pretty similar to that
It's probably a supersaw with an lfo on volume or cutoff filter. I could be wrong but that's typically how you do it

To people suggesting he add more technical terminology and information, go look for that. You'll find it literally everywhere on YT. I knew NOTHING months ago, still "know" so little, but I've learned more from this guy's style than every other knowledgeable producer I've watched. When you hear all the technical terminology, even the most seemingly basic, it makes you feel like the barrier to entry is astronomical, like you have to learn all of music theory before being able to just whip a song together. There's a place for this guy in the game and I hope he keeps it simple as hell for everyone. There's so much other content for those of you who already know the language. And keep in mind I don't want to learn music production so I can speak it or do it with others. It's for me, so I'm happy to find this guy!

Nice video - thank you!
One question though - what is the reason you use a one- shot audio drum samples for programming your beats and NOT the midi notes of drum 🥁 plugins?
I would really appreciate your answer!
Dude u blew up 100k+ GZ, like ur work, thumps up
Thinking about taking the bootcamp. I've kind of moved away from traditional EDM, I'm more into Fisher type tech house and Meduza style deep house. My three main struggles are understanding music theory, arrangement and actually finishing projects lol
