- If you go down to the woods today is probably one of my strangest titles to date, but it pretty much sums up how the day felt tp me. Whilst there are some strange goings on in the woods, the video includes some composition tips, creative Ideas, a bit of focus stacking and of course, nature information.

What a video, and what powerful images. I just read a comment from Al Trujillo and I couldn't agree more. I've seen 1000s. of video's of other excellent photographers on social media and while I do have favourites, your the only one I've ever looked forward to seeing. Your work is pure magic, class. And I absolutely enjoy you sharing your incredible woodland knowledge. I mean not so long ago, after 30 years I was on the verge of packing it all in having lost my mojo so to speak. Then Mr Heaton introduced you to us all and now, I'm back out there enjoying the woodlands and seeing them from your perspective is very inspirational. Great vid, Thank you.
I thought i had replied to this, sorry! Your comment is very generous and am very grateful those kind complimentary words.
Simon...you have become my favorite photographer. You are a wonderful Naturalist and an admired kindred spirit. I especially love your observations between organisms and the environment and your willingness to spend time explaining the natural world and images you share with us. Landscape images are the summation of many small parts and you focus down to visit and talk with the smallest parts of the landscape. I too hug trees and I applaud your approach. Thank you.
I couldn't agree more - these videos are an absolute delight and inspiration.
Thank Al, that's very kind of you to say :-)
Thank you Simon for everything you've shared over the last 12 months. It's wonderful to know you've enjoyed it too. Here's to more in '24.
Simon, Kudo's! I just love your Why's and How's. You have my utmost appreciation and respect.
I love the beech leaves. The image has a velvety look that is appealing.
I like what you said! Paraphrasing: if one has a macro lense you seldom are stuck without something to photograph. I have found this to be so true.
I especially enjoyed the abstract goat willow image. 👍🥳
A risk but yes, me too!
I love that you call these videos "films". It makes me smile from the very first sentence.
I forgot this week Fiona ooops! I went back and made reference to my blunder!
I always love when the little bugs come to add a nice focal point!
I often don't notice them until I get home!
Hi Simon.
You talk about epycormic growth being a sign of stress. Here, in Australia, we see epicormic growth after fires. Our trees mostly do not die after fire but within weeks, even days, new growth will appear all over the tree. After a month or so it is hardly possible to tell the tree has been burnt. So yes, a sign of stress, but in our case a sign of a healthy tree that simply won't give up.
Keep up the good work. I, like so many others admire your imagery and appreciate the time taken to explain the why and the how.
Cheers for your message John. Interesting!
Never get tired of forest floor photographs! The Honey Mushrooms were stunning. Those three macro shots work well as a set with the similar tones.
Thanks Richard. Yes, the sets often do look good.
The "Jackson Pollock" was beautiful!!
As were the fallen leaves
Cheers James, a gamble paid off.
Beautiful restful photos - dead leaves come alive...
Love the pond image. The slight silver ripple around the leaf edge makes it look as though they are set in some kind of black jelly. Superb!
Always look forward to your walk-abouts. Never gets old!
Macro's do always reveal a fascinating world, and the photo at 11:10 is a really nice abstraction.
Like always a joy to watch.
Thanks Henry
A beautiful set of images. So peaceful and relaxing.
Love the Jackson Pollock one but also the painterly photo of the leaves on the forest floor. Even though it's a flat subject, it still has some depth to it.
Thanks for taking us along with you, Simon. Very kind of you - and some most pleasing images there. You must have been chuffed with this new patch.
I like all three pictures. Your knowledge of the concerns of nature and the simplicity of the compositions, simply great!
Thank you very much.
You are definitely my favorite photographer. This is the CZcams channel I watch first on Sunday. It’s like walking through the woods with you. There is only one other CZcams photographer (Henry Turner) that brings me into the landscape with them so I am almost disoriented at the end when I see I’m in my living room! You walk through the woods like I do: always stopping and observing the flora underfoot and on trees; except you know the names of them and even how they’ll look in a different season! Keep up the good work! I will let you know when your photo arrives.
That's nice Mary. I'm pleasantly pleased that the films can do this!
much enjoyed the pollock-inspired one and all were stunning. and the evidence of elves in them there ancient woods! thank you.
Simply beautiful to watch Simon. Thank you for sharing 🙂🙏
Wonderful compositions in unexpected places. Love the leaves in the water. I enjoy how you embraced the imperfect leaves
Thanks Taylor. Much appreciated.
Thank you Simon your work is magnificent. You inspire everyday.
They are all wonderful as always…my favorite of the day is the first leaves shot! I love the composition and the way the yellow leaf cups the green framing it so nicely😊
I wondered if anyone would notice that Sharon
What beautiful images. The way you observe your surroundings and capture interesting and fresh ideas is amazing. Enjoyable video.
I think your channel has lots of potential!
@@SimonBoothPhotography Thank you, Simon!
Thank you Simon for another great video. You continue to amaze me with your images, and wealth of knowledge. By far the most enjoyable content on CZcams.
That's very kind of you.
Loved the fungi. Great light and texture
You continue to inspire and make me complete rethink my approach to landscape photography. Well done once again.
Love the last 2 shots.
Love the botanical informations that you include to your amazing photography
Thanks Mister
Thank you Mohamed
The reverse icm image was just lovely Simon… I’m learning a lot from these fabulous videos
Cheers Ian, good to know they help. To be honest, I have no idea where these idea pop up from!
All gorgeous images but that slow shutter of the birches is fantastic! Really turning a potential problem into an amazing opportunity.
Many thanks Mathew
Another amazing video. Beautiful compositions and color.
I love particularly your impressionnist image with white frame it will be a fantastic print with fine art paper .
You have a fantastic eye its always a treat to see how you work .
One outing on an unpromising day and four beautiful images. As usual,Simon inspires us.
Wonderful photos Simon. Again, I'm amazed by your ability to wander into a woodland and pluck out these beautiful images. Your ability to produce art without the "grand vista" is an inspiration. I also appreciate your understanding and explanation of the ecosystem.
Cheers Doug
Great images. Another really enjoyable relaxing video.
Beautiful images 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Simon I never fail to learn something from you videos you inspire me to get off my butt and get out there your knowledge is amazing keep up the good work
Cheers
Great video, Simon. I really liked the second, abstract shot!
Super images and an enjoyable video Simon.
Another great Simon Booth video and walk in the woods. Particularly love your perfect mushrooms (all those repeating shapes are so satisfying!), and your Pollock grass is a show stopper. Thank you.
Thanks Alice for your recognition of the abstract image
simply wonderful. thank you
Hi Simon. Of all the photographers I follow on CZcams, (too many), there is no doubt you are the one, who had the greatest impact on improving my photography. Thanks for another excellent vlog. All of the images were excellent but the Jackson Pollock has really grown on me. Kind regards Robin
Thank Robin, that's very kind
I love the leave photo. Such beautyful tones in it. Good vlog Simon. Thnx
Thank you again. I just noticed that you've been commenting for four years. That's impressive!
Oh Simon your just the master at them intimate scenes! The way you process them is just so complimentary of the scene. Well done mate
Thanks Tom, I seemed to have developed a processing style. It goes along the lines of keep pushing stuff till it look right! You're not the first to notice this which, joking aside, I find intriguing?
@@SimonBoothPhotography all subtle though my friend👍🏻
Beautiful images Simon
Thank you for sharing your video Simon as always images where fantastic the white mount makes them stand out even more
Simon - thank-you for another fabulous video - these images are truly outstanding - what a talent !
That's very generous, thank you
Another beautiful video Simon, loved the second forest floor image. Super crisp & stunning.
Many thanks Andy
Good eye. Those three photos at the end are wonderful.
Glad you like them!
thank you , you have a wonderful connection with nature ,
stay safe from south Dublin
Thanks and have a great day today.
Lovely images. Thanks.
Great images, I especially liked the Honey fungus with the fly.
Thank you Mike.
I love your videos. Calm, thoughtful and informative with fab images. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you like them!
Simon I really like how you find the intimate scenes that many of us would just walk by. I appreciate your thought process as you compose the images. It is helping me think differently in the field. I am glad that Thomas Heaton mentioned your channel. I have really enjoyed your weekly vlogs.
I appreciate that!
Thank you Simon loved this.
said it before and I'll say it again Simon, "appy wi that" great vid and lovely images. thanks.
I've not said that for a while :-)
Terrific Simon, as always. Loved the Pollock. 👍
Many thanks Simon. It's been pretty well received has that one!
I'm constantly amazed about your knowledge about nature. Not only about the names of trees, bushes, grasses, fungus, etc, but also how they grow, the way they grow, why they grow at a particular spot, etc. Amazing how you know all this!
Thanks Pascal. I think nature has been deep rooted for a long time in me. There's still plenty to learn though!
Love your attention to detail and your eye for interesting images.
Always a pleasure Karen
Great video Simon and superb images, think my favourite is the abstract, fabulous colours. Your knowledge of woodland is inspiring
Many thanks
Thanks for your inspiring work. I struggle with woodland a lot. Today I'll go to try again.
Always learn so much. Thank you.
Thank you 👍📷😎
Amazing!
Loved the images.
Lovely images Simon! thanks for the trip through your local woodland.
Cheers Adam. I really do appreciate you dropping a line.
Super compositions again Simon lovely work. Rodders 👍.
Cheers Rodders
Its strange how a scene I would literally walk over looks so beautiful when presented as art. A few weeks ago I found a very similar "village" of honey mushrooms, only had my iPhone with me so the shots aren't anywhere near as good as yours, but now I know how to better capture them.
I love that collective term Paul...a village of fungi :-)
Hi Simon, I've been following your channel for some time and I'm always absolutely AMAZED by the similarity of our approach, a mix of photographic "style" and love for/knowledge of nature that I've never found elsewhere. I now live and work in Italy and your videos not only fire up my enthusiasm, they also serve as a window on the British landscape and nature I knew and loved when I was a child. Thanks :-).
That's nice Sarah. Have lots of fun out there and I will see you in the next one. 😀
Simon, love your work! It is really inspirational to see you take even a challenging day and come out of it with the shots you do! Keep it up mate and thank you for sharing…
Really enjoy your videos, Macro photography is something I have never tried but after watching your video I'm very keen to give it a go. Your image of the honey fungi was amazing, great work.
Very impressed with the impressionistic photo. Don’t see that demonstrated often…
It was a nice observation and I'm glad I noticed its potential. thank you.
Great inspiring video, thank you for this.
Another wonderful video, and as always I find them so relaxing especially after a busy day in the office, thanks Simon. Really like the abstract image inspired by Jackson Pollock. 👏😀
Cheers again Martin.
Hi Simon great images once again I’m trying to learn more on focus stacking
It's a useful skill to have.
Thank you for a great video Simon. Your calm voice, great photography skills and your knowledge of nature make a very pleasant view. I am so happy I am not the only one who don´t move anything in nature when photographing.
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers for that.
Hi Simon ! GREAT video !
One of your best! Thank you so much.
Gosh, I had no idea it was this good!
Beautiful images Simon. The woodland you were working in looked chaotic, so really was inspiring to see what you did manage to pick up. Great video as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, finally, another post we've been waiting. We love your contents. Be Safe.
Thank you Des
Thank you for expressing, in word and deed, your gentle appreciation of the woodland.
That's kind of you Lynne
Stunning images as always Simon. I loved the leaves and the mushrooms. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers again
Magic as always !
Wonderful as always Simon..... those Fungi images were wonderful.... You certainly are a fountain of knowledge when it comes to woodland and plants in general. Thank you for sharing your time with us and once again highlighting Lancashire and all it offers photographically. :-)
Cheers again Richard and thanks for continuing with your support and comments
Hi Simon great images from the woodland yet again love the way you seek out compositions yet make it look so easy. Looking forward to seeing next vlog best wishes!
I'd like to say it comes easy Mark but it's not that easy to be honest. Finding variations on what I have already done before is easy and those images are equally good, but finding fresh material is always hard, but it keeps me on my toes.
I so enjoy seeing how you select and set up your shots and the details that you concentrate on with each one. It is a wonderful teaching method, Simon, and much appreciated. Thank you.
Cheers to you Jim
Outstanding video Simon, I always learn something watching your work online. Thank you for putting these videos together and sharing your world with the world.
Thanks for watching Steve
another superb VLog Simon, you never come away empty handed, love the image👏🏻
Hi Phil, it's a case of having to on CZcams I think sometimes. It certainly keeps the motivation up.
Loved this video Simon. It was really interesting to hear how you approach a new location and adapt your photography to the conditions. Love the images, particularly the fungus.
Glad you enjoyed it Angela
Wundervolle Bilder 👍👍👍
Amazing! I greatly appreciate your videos.... thank you
You're welcome
Fabulous 👍🙏👊
Really great day out Simon!
I liked all the images you shared but the first abstract one was just awesome. The colours and textures, it was not at all what I was expecting when you were describing it. Awesome!
Thank you so much 😀
Simon can make any simple scene a work of art. Beautiful images, as always! I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for all your efforts in making them.
Many thanks
What an exquisite
way to start my Sunday morning with a peaceful wander through the woodlands. Your choice of music is always appreciated. And I feel like I also learn a great deal about science as well. Thanks Simon.
Thanks Carla. I do spend many a while considering my music choices.
