To me, this is THE Metallica. The lineup that got me into rock music. Jason Newsted is a great bass player, but the fans and his fellow bandmates did him dirty. He deserved better during his tenure.

When they recorded And Justice For All, they deliberately turned down Jason's bass tracks on the final mix. He eventually became a solid part of the band, but things were hard on him early on simply because he wasn't Cliff.
at this point metallica was just untouchable... on top of everything from the their songwriting to their live performances... glad i got to be around for those times....
He was a decent drummer when he was hungry for fame and wealth, but when he got it, he really stopped caring about becoming better. I can't really blame him for it, but a lot of other greater artists kept obsessing about their skill level on their instrument even after they became famous.
James said that he wanted to be the best drummer on guitar, and Lars the best riff composer on drums, well, people can't understand that, it's what makes Metallica be Metallica, the way Lars plays is just what makes the band be themselves.
Did kirk have his hair braided or in dreadlocks in this performance?? Hard to tell because of how grainy the video is but it almost looks like he has michael jacksons hairstyle from the bad music video lol.
He said in a Guitar Center interview that it was when he played Sean Kinney's kit during an Alice in Chains rehearsal. He found it easier to place his ride cymbal and the hi-hats. They are closer and easier to hit.

This summer tour was the official end of the black album era. Woodstock ‘94 was the official last show of this this cycle. Lots of transition happening.

Fans never did him dirty, most of us love Newstead. Rob isn’t bad but Newstead really completed Metallica. Man I miss those backing vocals
