That’s neat. For folks only running homeassistant, another great alternative is frigate. It’s designed to run as a container and to be integrated with home assistant, it can add any camera that has an RTSP stream. And it got updated recently to support TensorFlow on nVidia GPUs for super fast and local object detection.
wouldn't you want to use frigate AND scrypted? Assuming your goal was to add any camera to alexa/homekit/etc?
Hey, what if only use motioneye with 5 raspberry pi’s & cams?
I’ve found that due to the different cameras I use and different raspbian versions (buster, bullseye), I can’t use the integrated function within motioneye to see all cams on one page, it can’t find other devices, so I thought this scrypted might be an alternative…(I’ll have to setup home assistant now though, which I’ve never done.)
Hope you can give any suggestions 👍
@@seethruhead7119 I guess there is nothing preventing that. You could use frigate for object detection and use frigatés restream fuctionality to feed the video into scrypted
@@seethruhead7119 definitely. Setup frigate and record for a longer time there, then restream to Google home, as the retention there is very limited anyway. Plus then if you wanted to automate on events, it’d be much quicker than going over the public net to the Google home api
I'd like to use this with Shinobi.
I moved from MotionEye to Shinobi because I found out that it is more flexible, faster, and records every moment without a miss in recordings which motioneye was doing it all the time on the same hardware...
Any way to combine Scrypted with Shinobi?
Thanks!
Dude, thank you for this video! I never would have come across this normally, but this is incredibly handy. I have a mix of cameras on different services and had no idea I could consolidate them all into HomeKit like this. Super solid info and channel, subbed!
Tim always coming in clutch with new software I didn't know exists whenever I need it, cheers 🍻
I gotchu
The thing about Apple Home and "Stream Only" vs. recording is the recordings are actually stored in iCloud, not your Scrypted instance (unless you get the NVR plugin for Scrypted, which is actually something separate). Great video!
Dang finally it’s on your channel! Been using it for a bit and it’s been improving steadily!
This is perfect timing. I'm moving right now and plan on installing my new unify gear and setting up home assistant in the next week!
Thank you for this. I’ve been trying to find a solution to get my camera into HomeKit so my partner can see them and feel safer. Home Assistant wasn’t bridging them but got them setup with this! Very easy to do thank you again. Love your videos.
The answer to so many (incompatible) prayers!!!! You're an amazing presenter and a lifesaver!!!!!
I still can't believe Tim only has 146k subscribers!
There a lot of channels that don't provide nearly the amount of value and have more subscribers...
I Love Scrypted! Been using it for a while now. Thanks for doing a video on it.
Thanks for the video! I’ve been running Scrypted on my home network for about a year to put my cheap cameras into Apple's Secure Video. It has been solid! Highly recommended. FWIW I have been running it in Docker.
One of the best videos all year - such great news that this can be done. Think Im up and running, thanks so much for making this!
Amazing video so far. Your video's get me motivated to do these things. Just last week, you got me into docker. Thank you
The video I didnt know I needed, great stuff! Will definitely set this up at home
Duuuuude, killer video. I'll be setting this all up in my new place once it's done and I'm just happy to see that it won't be as big of a headache as I expected!
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much. You just turned a bad day into a good day.
You have a lifetime Subscriber here!
Man, this is great... definitely appreciate what you do, and sharing the knowledge.
This is amazing! It also works really well as a Home Assistant addon, if you’re already running it.
And the developer was also heavily involved with CyanogenMod in the past. What a legend.
Yep, I caught that too. ❤
Wow, very interesting trivia! Definitely gives this a lot more trust in my book!
Oh man that brings back some memories!!
Great great video ! I'm moving next month and definitely need some security cameras at the new home Thanks for sharing this video with us
What a great tool! Super excited to play with this!
Scrypted is Awesome. I was using tapo hacs addon in home assistant and that never worked properly. Scrypted works perfectly, I integrated with homekit with two way audio, recording on icloud. It’s just amazing.
Thank you
This is great along with tailscale for other home. I can see everything from one place. I love linux based systems.
The port you reffer in the video is diffferent to what's on the docker compose file, Took me a long time to see the difference!
Thanks Tim, this opens to door to do some cool stuff with my Hikvision cameras.
awesome, just about to buy some reolink cameras for my home assistant...this is very handy, very useful app and video, thanks
Thanks Tim for the tutorial. I tried it with my unifi g4 pro (I have 3) on a synlogy to connect them to HomeKit and it works wonderful. Not issues, been running for days now. I used homebridge before and it was a nightmare needing lots of reboots because it HomeKit secure video stops working.
Thanks for the beaut' video! I've been looking for something more to tinker with and adding my cameras. I have a few (ahem 10), like yourself. Very impressed by how easy it is to get them into homekit and alexa! I've got a whole lot of ONVIF setups for things here and there but I think this will put them all in one place. It's great to be able to see the carport camera from the shed echo show, for example!
Greetings from Ireland, I love open source software. Thank for sharing this information.Pi's are deadly. I need to go through more of your videos. Just upgraded my USG an cloudkey2+ to UDMPRO yesterday, had to reset the whole system again but its nice and tasty fast now.
This is epic I have same setup UniFi n homekit so defo using this thank you
Can’t wait to try Scrypted. I had 2 ring doorbells hooked up to HomeKit through HOOBs and it worked well for a long time until it started to repeatedly send alerts when someone rang the doorbell. It was like one alert every two seconds for a few minutes. I disconnected HOOBs and added then through home assistant - now I don’t get any notifications and if I ever do, the video snapshot is from a past event. So… can’t wait to try Scrypted. Thanks!
This is exactly what I wanted a video on....!!!
SUPER interesting, thanks for making this video!
This is awesome, hope there's a SmartThings plug in coming soon
Brilliant! Been looking for something like this. The Unifi Protect plugin which is native to Alexa does not work very well. This worked perfectly. I now have 6 cameras I integrated with Alexa :)
Happy days.
wow this is amazing. Simplified my decision to with Unifi's camera system.
I liked. I subscribed. You made this is a FOR DUMMIES presentation and I needed that!
Thanks! I really needed this!👍🏻you rock!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
You censored "Hey Siri" but blasted "Alexa" 3 times loud on your video. I see how it is...
Haha! Sorry! I totally forgot! I thought you had to say “Hey Alexa!”
Thanks for the demo and info, have a great day
I used docker-compose as usual. I copied your setup and it worked fine but the port 11080 was used, not 10443.
Great Work! Thanx
Thank you for this! Spent the last 2 days hitting my head against the wall.
This is superb!!
Thanks for sharing.
I found out about Scrypted last year when I was trying to integrate my TP Link Kasa doorbell into HomeAssistant. I ended up changing to a Reolink video doorbell (which is already supported in HA) but still use Scrypted via a Proxmox container for my Arlo wireless cameras and outside of the occasional need to restart the plugin it’s been great.
Interesting. I hate my arlo cams. Does your setup make them reliable?
@@l0gic23 Not sure if it's Scrypted or due to Arlo requiring some sort of re-auth but I tend to need to request a new 2FA code every couple of weeks. Otherwise it pulls in all the features you see in the app and has been pretty reliable for the last few months that I've had arlo cams in there.
You're a real one for muting "Hey Siri"
Thanks for the video! recently I been using Shinobi to do recording and do it without the NVR. I like to check this out for integration.
Great video Tim- all setup and working great with Homebridge/Scrypted/Homekit/Synology 1618+ //// Trying to figure out how to get the notifications working on the Apple TV 4K's in the house - Ai360 camera is the only slow to respond camera out of all the Unifi cameras- No doorbell Unifi cam- just G4 Pros and Ai360 -12 total. ANy hints on the notifications and pop ups/ PIP on Apple TV's would be appreciated.
About to embark on this journey. home assistant > zigbee co-ordinator > hikvision NVR > and then... Great vid! :)
Also considering using that to add cams to my HomeKit -hikvision
I wonder if this allows you to connect Tuya cameras that don't have RTSP output to something like Blue Iris as example
Great video! I actually added it to Home Assistant and that worked great as well.
It sucks that it doesn't include Simplisafe 😔 I can get unifi cameras to my Home Assistant (and now to my Homekit, which is awesome), but I wish I could add the SimpliSafe camera I have...
Awesome find Tim! So is Scrypted looking for RTSP (or RTSPS) in the case of UniFi Protect?
Thank fof this info.
And interesting reactions as well.
This is what I've been waiting for a looooong time.. I tried so many times to get my unifi protectin to my homekit setup, but I always failed. Now thanks to Tim, I finally got it to work. THANKS AGAIN TIM!
I just have one question. Since scrypted knows the local login credentials does it mean, that it can be used by the developer of scrypted? Just concerning about privacy..
Thank you!!!
2 things
1) it’s open source so unlikely that code could sneak in. To be sure pin your container to a tag or better yet the SHA
2) it’s a local only account so they would have to have local access to your UniFi device
@@TechnoTim thank you so much for the incredible job and thanks a lot for getting back to this so quickly... much appreciated!
Ah, nice, will look to see about the OpenHab stuff.
This sound similar to homebridge in some way?
Thanks for the video, great work.
Oh boy, maybe I can finally get this Tuya knock-off doorbell cam to be useful now
I have a ~15 year old axis network camera next to my front door. It’s so old, it only supports MJPEG as a streaming format. I wonder if I could get it to work with scripted…
THIS!!!! IS DOPE AF!!!
Nice - I have been needing software like this for a few years. I have several Echo Show's in my house - but they could not show my camera feeds. Setting up now...
Hey Tim, what type of lights do you use on your back and front porch that you can connect in Home app ?
Unifi protect is setup in my home assistant. So all my cams work and act as sensors. I can get package/person/vehicle/smoke detection and fire alerts via home assistant. I cant even set camera peramiters via HA. It works amazing. And my unifi network integrates perfect too!! HA is amazing. I use my g4 pro door bell to sent notification to all my devices with a pic IN the drop down notification when a person is detected in a certain zone and my door is locked. This way i dont get false alarms constant when unloading groceries. And my front door locks automatically after 2 minutes being shut.
This is freaking amazing.
Fantastic tool!
That's sooo crazy!! Thanks a lot for sharing this sir! :)
May i ask you if it would be possible to add this feature in Yi home Cameras?
Thanks a lot for your time!
thanks for this!!!!
Going to give this a shot! Is there anyway tk control the snapshot refresh image for battery ring cameras? My issue I found with HomeBridge (hence the look to move to this) was the 10 sec refresh causing my ring battery to drain! Anyway to control this better with this?
Looks great! Unfortunately, doesn't seem to support Eufy security cams or their HomeBase local AI/ML storage solution. I VLAN these off from Internet access and from each other, but Scrypted isn't quite there yet. I'll keep looking into it as the project matures, hoping that it will support the Eufy cams some day. I have 10 tocal cameras, homelab, outside and inside as well.
excellent video !
I was wondering if it worked for xiaomi cameras? Or do I need to install an alternative firmware first? for example OpenIPC
Thanks for the video Tim. I have been running Scypted to connect a Wyze camera via RTSP to HomeKit for over a month on an old r.pi 3. The device always had some stability issues, so I did reload of the OS on the device. That didn't help with the low power issue, so I decided to try a VirtualBox install. I have two working, one with Ubuntu 22 and one with Debian 12. I wanted run this by you. When setting up the camera now in Homekit, the advanced features of recording, recognizing objects, etc. are not available on all 3 solutions - updated r.pi, Ubuntu, and Debian. In Homekit, the message for the added camera says "This accessory has not been certified to work with Homekit so some features may not be available." Do you think Apple has done a recent update to block adding cameras through a method like this? Have to you gotten this message before?
companies : you can't connect our products to our competitors' products
open source : let me take care of that
So, Bjergsen passed from League of Legends to Tech videos... thats really cool :O
Hey, do you know if this works with "Alfred"? Its an app that turns cellphones into live cameras. I want to know if this works to have my old phones on my alexa echo show/ fire tv
Great solution
This is the WAY!!
This video is amazing thank you so much. Do you have an affiliate link for scripted subscriptions, before I sign up?
This is great. I am just starting to get into home automation. Can the same thing be achieved with the Scrypted add on in Home Assistant?
Tim, throwing shade at apple 😂 nice!
HI! great video!!! I will give this a try later.
I have a question, I use some smartphones as home cameras through Alfred Camera camera, does anyone know if this can work with camera feed from that app?
Scrypted is amazing.
I installed scripted on windows via power shell. I was trying to get my nest and google cameras on there.. can’t seem to find tutorials for it. Any ideas? I know google shut down their api but some how sterling home hub can get it to work so I assume it’s still possible..
This really isn't an application for all Home Hubs as described in the video. This is specifically designed for Home Assistant, Google Home, and Alexa. There is no apparent support for SmartThings or Hubitat. Also, the installation script that the author provides for docker-compose ends in "Error response from daemon: error gathering device information while adding custom device "/dev/dri": no such file or directory". So the simple installation script fails even on an Ubuntu Server 22.04 with docker installed.
Would this work with blink cameras? Ithis would be awesome
what if you have a vlan for your IoT and another one for your cameras? Should you make rules for all of your cameras?
I'm just wondering pro's and cons with scrypted vs frigate ? I currently use frigate but am wondering if there anything that might be a good reason to switch
So it would work if i tried to connect the aquara dorbell and g4 camera to home assistant (using scrypted)?
Would this do a better job than homebridge? homebridge doesnt work with audios for TPlink Tapo cameras on Homekit.
I’m assuming Blink + Homekit is possible?
This is interesting. Weekend project incoming
What about trying this on split IoT and camera networks? Both of which can't even reach my main LAN gateway...?
Do you need to set up a static ip address for a raspberry pi, or nas? Does the unit need to be plugged in at all times?
im testing this over just using homebridge and unifi plugin, one thing i cant do is remote stream on my devices.
Great stuff. This will sound weird, but I believe you will be (already are?) a great dad if thats a choice you make.
Thank you! I am not a Dad but I really appreciate the comment!
Hey Tim, if you setup scrypted on host mode in portainer. Were you still able to use traefik with it? I'm having some trouble but I assume it's because scrypted requires host and traefik portainer containers should be using proxy network. Any advice?
Can this get blink cameras to stream to HA (instead of just snapshot)?
What a major PITA to attempt to get Google Nest setup.
For homekit, doesn't unifi have a work around solution withhomebridge?
I like scrypted but I have one gripe which I don't know if its scrypteds issue or googles, but I can't for the life of me get my nest Hello (wired 1st gen) motion events to work, I get the stream fine but no recording. It seems the motion sensor for it just doesn't work. It used to once upon a time, but stopped working and has never started working again since. I do pay for Nest Aware so get the recordings there anyway, but I would have loved to just be able to go to one app to see all my recordings for my cameras.
can it be used with a doorbell to store the the video trigered by motion detection from the bell and stored to sd card to the local nas? ta
great video, anyone know if this work with Blink cameras, thanks!
I would like to know if i have just unifi camera nothing more then that can i still use this? Or do i need unifi protect
Thank for this! Perfect timing! I had just found a few PTZ tuya cams for like 5$ at a junk store. I have not been using them because I could not get them into Home Assistant and frigate. I was messing with "goRTC" to try and accomplish this with no luck. This should be just what I am looking for. I will try it as soon as I am home.
Danke!
Thank you!
Nice!
Does anyone know if this would help link cameras with BlueIris? I've got a couple Blink cameras that I'd like to integrate and not be stuck with their app.
