    This was the kind of review I wanted to see! Thank you very much. Honestly you showed me pretty much everything I wanted to see such as Minecraft performance, the trackpad gestures (I wasn't sure if it had them or not) and whatnot. I have other Mac's but nothing this new so I'm real excited for it to arrive in the mail! Btw you missed one awesome feature bro, the backlit keyboard! Even the PowerBook G4 I'm typing on right now has it ;)

    It's crazy how MacBooks are so expensive to where they lead to people making video reviews of older models.
    I realize that sounds like I'm hating on Apple, but I appreciate these kinds of videos. Reviews of older hardware fascinate me, and I've been on a stint lately where I watch reviews of old Macs. It's so fascinating.

    • @ilpatongi
      @ilpatongi Před 7 lety

      Actually this is why they're so expensive, not quite their prices as of now but still...
      I myself have a 2007 model that is still going strong no problems with it, this proves that macs are made to last, it recieved updates until 2015 so they supported it for almost 10 years.

    Man, just to tell you your review is AWESOME! For your "first time", it's amazing how clearly you speak and explain this stuff; the transition, the music, everythings is wonderfully choosen. However, I would recommend to be more concise/organized and then your videos will have millions of views !

    Yea, I've recently done a couple repairs on mine, which didn't cost any money (easy to work on), I've fallen back in love with it! The very last pre-unibody model, bought it new, still running strong on Mavericks. Honestly, I was going to consider upgrading because of the mouse and trackpad weren't working, but since I've fixed it I really have no desire to replace it! I actually want to get a express card 34 SSD which I just found out I can get! Yea, super fantastical.

      You'll really regret the G4, there nice and all and still look really good for their age but literally NOTHINGS supported on them, I mean you can run all the old apps up until about 2006/7ish but app development didn't really take off until the Intel switch

      TylerGaming97 If you run Linux on the iBook, it'll help out with support some what, though configuring everything to work could take time. If nothing else though, there's tenfourfox, which will give you a modern browser assuming that you're running 10.4 or newer.

    SATA 1 would limit an SSD to under 150MB/s though. Still a benefit over HDDs because of access times, but limiting to any modern SSD.

    So Apple stopped the support for this generation of MBPs. I have one and it's a working horse. I use it for harddiskrecording in the studio. Connected with an RME over PCI/e and 3 outboards I have 24 A/D channels. Enough for a Big Band. 6 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD and the machine rocks. No latency. An Apple display connected. And it's no glossy crap. The battery still works. And it runs 10.9.5 Mavericks without any problems.

    There are even more advantages: It already has a LED display, and with a PC card adapter you can even use USB 3.0 on it.
    But there's one major disadvantage: Most notebooks with the GeForce 8600m GT graphics card got issues, either PC or Mac. There is a general problem with this chip, it has poor soldering. The soldering joints can break, and probably will. I've had five MacBook Pros with the 8600m GT, and on three it happened (!). But you can get a complete fix of that issue on ebay, send your MacBook in and they will resolder it or even replace the chip to a completely new one. At least here in Germany there are such offers, but I think in die US and elswhere too.

    I haven't played any of those games on Steam yet, but I can say the this Macbook Pro does play GTA 4 quite well, So it should be able to handle Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and similar games like that. I own the model with 256MB graphics memory and it runs great, but if you really want some power Apple also made a 512MB graphics memory model.

    • @starblazer311
      @starblazer311 Před 9 lety

      Well in this case I am going to assume that you have two 1gb sticks installed, so that means you will have to buy a 2gb stick and a 4gb stick of ram to make 6gb. It should be
      PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz. also make sure both ram modules you buy are of matching type and speed, or the system will not boot. You will also get much faster performance with a solid state hard drive and better cooling tempetures with a free program called SMC fan control. Hope that helps ! And feel free to ask me more!
      Cheers!

    • @WalnutSpice
      @WalnutSpice Před 8 lety

      I wouldn't do HD video editing on these. It would put too much heat on the 8600m GT video chip. These MacBook Pros from 2007 and 2008 have a 100% rate of GPU failure at some point or another, so it's best to not push them unless you have the fans cranked and have a laptop cooling pad under it. I plan on using mine for writing code and listening to spotify in the back ground.

    • @warrenmcclure7819
      @warrenmcclure7819 Před 7 lety

      I would say this 2008 macbook pro should be fine for basic things like watching 1080p youtube videos, movies, editiong 720p video and below (1080 might work but you dont want to push the GPU unless you have to since they have a very high failure rate), video calling and editing word documents. Now if if you want this specific model to use for day to day tasks Id recommend upgrading the ram to 4 or 6GB ram, installing a SSD, and installing Mac OS 10.8 because I think 10.8 gives you the best of both worlds. Its not as resource intensive as 10.11 and you can use MOST apps with it. Personally I think a better choice would be the mid 2009 macbook pro 13, I have one and it works wonders, I have 10.8 on it with 8GB ram, a 256GB SSD and I can do most of the things I want and need to. Either way I think you will be happy just make sure if you buy th 2008 macbook pro 15 that there is a high chance of the dedicated GPU failing

The 15 & 17 both have the same size keyboard but the speaker grilles on the 17 are bigger than the 15.
