IN THE forests of Louisiana lives a real-life fairy - equipped with her very own magical workshop. Ashley Gailliot, 23, started dressing as her alter-ego: a half mermaid, half-fairy called ‘Thistle’ as a hobby after a childhood obsession with all things fantasy-related. However, this became a more important form of escapism for Ashley during difficult times in her life. She told Truly: “After my husband joined the military, we were separated for about two years. Those were two of the darkest years of my life and it was very hard to feel anything.” In the video, Ashely makes her friend Geneva a special pair of wings for her fairy ‘Aurora’, anxiously presenting them to her on a magical day out.

@@BuBs1970G i remember the racist girl. I think people who (only) want to express themselves through their style often have narcissistic tendencies. If a person's personality and character truly shines, they don't need fairy wings or other accessories. Strip them of their extra make up and fancy clothes and what's left is an ordinary person like you and me. They can of course dress up for fun, it's cute and not hurtig anybody. :) But they're not better or more interesting people because of it.

I don’t exactly have ptsd but I have social anxiety and a bit of an upsetting past. I do use alternative style as a coping mechanism and it helps me let out my inner thoughts through what I’m wearing. When I decided I wanted to dress a certain way I felt like I found myself and felt more comfortable in my own body.

This is absolutely fantastic! I think dressing up as a fantastical, mythological creature is awesome and would be tons of fun.
The custom-designed wings are lovely. I could see there being a high demand for such things, and not only among those who cosplay. There's also children's dress-up, Halloween and other costume-party occasions, theater productions.

As a recovering drug addict, I’m constantly looking for creative ways & ideas to turn dangerous thoughts/feelings around. I don’t necessarily want to be a fairy 🧚🏼♀️, even though it looks fun & she looks stunning as one. Still, she inspires me to search my creative side to find positive paths.
Try focusing on a healthy lifestyle: cooking, exercise, hiking, yoga, meditation, classes, reading & therapy. For creative things try: painting/ drawing, crafts, journaling, & photography. Getting used to being apart from bad influences/people was the hardest, I had to learn to love being in my own presence before I found new friends. 14 years of sobriety for me this August, I'm wishing you many years of good health & happiness ❤
