You know when you go out to a wings place to watch the big fight, and we're all having a good time and there's pitchers of beer and yummy hot wings... and then someone orders boneless wings! Because I guess they have to feed a child or something? I can't remember where I was going with this...
On test:
Roland Skinless & Boneless Sardines in Soybean Oil
Cento Skinless & Boneless Sardines in Olive Oil
Season Skinless & Boneless Sardines in 100% Olive Oil

I am literally in Morocco eating skinless and boneless sardines right now.
LOL, thats great. Hope you enjoyed them buddy.
At the SOURCE.
Morocco may not have the finesse of Portugal or Spain but a solid producer
Perfect
The hero we needed
I love the music in these, it really makes me feel like I've got vertigo and am spiraling helplessly down this vortex of deens
The background music reminds me of those videos on Brazzers 😉
“Skip ahead” you say? No way Matt. I’m here for the full Carlson Experience!
ikr? I was like psh which amateurs dont want the fine important deets on the deenz?
Sometimes I empty them out upside down.🤔
Well, you through that bum out the door.Bye,Roland.😆
I've loved sardines for years, but I just found out about this awesome little sardine community, I love the internet
Yup, we are all packed closely together here!! LOL ;D
this community is freaking hilarious. just when you think you have seen it all on the internet, something that you would never have thought of in a million years comes out of left field and shows you that you indeed have just scratch the surface of all things internet
@@williamgray9692 I can’t even imagine a more wholesome community. Niche internet communities can be kinda toxic. It’s refreshing that this one doesn’t seem to be.
As a Filipino-American, I was raised on King Oscar sardines mixed with rice & soy sauce. We’d also pour the olive oil over the rice. YUM! Or my grandma would scramble sardines with some eggs. Great memories 🤪
I've never eaten sardines before (or even thought about eating sardines before I got these videos in my recommended) but this sounds fire
@@youraftermyrobotbee Apparently the algorithm loves him rn? I don't even like fish but I am very picky and this dude popped up in my recommended. Doesn't disappoint.
thanks man for the recipe that sounds really good!
@@gooley9849i kinda like fish, mainly sushi and sashimi but after seeing this mans love for sardines i think im about to delve into these little delights 😂
Well, I guess since I like tuna in Olive oil and I love eel at a sushi bar, I might actually like serdines as long as it's in a high quality brand.
I remember the first time i tried sardines, I was in Woolworths (popular store in Australia) when I stumbled upon the canned fish section, I got curious, and bought a 90¢ can of dines in tomato sauce, it was in my room for a while after that cause I was scared to eat them, but one night, I got bored and decided to eat them, but before I did, I looked up 'how to eat sardines ' (as most beginners do), and stumbled upon this glorious channel, which guided me through my first can. To be honest, I didn't really enjoy them, but, I was willing to have them again. I've had many more since that day, and my relationship with sardines has grown stronger. Nowadays it's kinda hard to get through a day without them.
Thanks for introducing me to this delightful treat, Matt!
What sardines do you recommend as a fellow Aussie?
Moroccan sardines are pretty scaly. Skinning and deboning them is to market them better.
and i think it also has to do with cheap labour compared to Spain or France
@@ROTORKOTOR1 I'm from Morocco. They employ women mostly and pay them around 300-400 dollars a month.
@@hakim6158 I know, I'm from Holland and truckloads of shrimp driving to Morrokko to get pealed and then getting sold again here
@@ROTORKOTOR1 Globalization is crazy. We peel dutch shrimp.
Sardines from elsewhere are mushier and more fishy in a bad way. Morocco rocks!
My bf got me into the dines game (I always refused trying) by putting them on bread with avocado wich got me hooked.
Then I found this channel and binge-watched your videos and now I'm trying my first whole sardine, needles to say it was a good experience both for me and my bf.
Thanks for watching!
I was deen-phobic until I somehow found this guy. Now eat them straight with hot sauce.
Toast white bread, thinly chopped tomato, salt pepper, balsamic vinegar, dean's of your choice, lightly toast dean's with a gass touch/ oven / bbq/..... microwave 😢?!
Next level. Your welcome
This guy is a national treasure
So glad he exists
This dude is the uncrowned king of sardines 🐠
Seasons skinless boneless are available at Costco too, so they can be very affordable
Yep, great regular price at Costco, and they go on sale at Costco fairly regularly as well. Usually can get them less than two bucks a can.
@@nosoco81 , yep, just bought some on sale, $1.33/can
@@NoName83201 At Costco?
Morocco having a large boneless sardine industry was just the natural outcome after Morocco perfected the art of making very tiny fillet knives.
I love that there is now a video for the skinless and boneless sardine tier list cause honestly that's where I started too. Gotta dip your toes in before you jump in head first! Another great episode of the Canned Fish Files!
I’m almost there with the deenz. I’m all about the kippers, growing up in a Jewish household it reminds me of the whitefish we put on our bagels. One day soon I will be brave enough!! Thanks for all you do I friggen love this channel
KO small deenz, good flavor, no scales, and tiny bones you don't feel!
Gooba gobba one of us, one of us …
Same here, Lady Samantha. I want to try it, but I’m scared.
I eat Cento anchovies ❤️
Do you eat canned tuna? I reckon it has a worse taste then sardines
I recommend Bar Harbor brand smoked mackerel fillets for beginners to canned fish. So good they made King Oscar kipper snacks seem like cat food
Bar Harbour anything they make is good.
A good solid all around brand.
Bar Harbor is great
Their canned seafood soups are garbage though...
@@keeanmorishita8457 true
Why am i watching a channel thats a guy reviewing canned fish... and enjoying it ?
I do not know why I am here, all I know is that i want to watch
Hungry or iq low
I would loooove to see you do a colab with a cannery and deep dive into how some of these niche brands pack and ship their deenz
This channel uploading gives me so much serotonin and brightens my day.
King Oscar Mediterranean style mackerel are the best canned fish for a first timer. They're not fishy, just like tuna except better and more tender. Plus, you get free olives!
Funny. I just ate a can of those with buttered pasta with chopped preserved lemon rind. They are delicious!
@@Ranchorita That sounds great, I do add lemon and sumac sometimes, or sun-dried tomatoes and oregano.
Ooh, I'll have to try with the sumac. I just bought a jar of that recently
Been eating Season brand for a while now, I feel validated!
I admit trying the skinless boneless sardines first when I gave sardines a respectfull second try, but after that I just gotta have the skin and bones now.
Yup, good food stuff in the "icky stuff", usually. ;D
My first can of sardines I tried to debone them gave up and fed to the dogs. Nowadays I have sardines every day bones and all. Thank you Matthew!
The music absolutely enhances the review. Builds suspense. I like 👍
Costco had the Seasons on sale. I ordered 10 cases.
You helped get me back into eating these dines! Used to eat with my dad now i just fire up one of your vids and go to town. Thanks.
Your videos are so entertaining, so glad I found this channel lol
I've just been randomly binge watching these. Just a matter of time before this channel blows up.
you got me thinking about king oscar and in a way it's the best deenz on the market. not because it tastes the best, i'm sure there are plenty of more expensive, harder to find deenz that blow it away. but because king oscar is always there on the shelf at every place that sells deenz, it's a solid choice, the price won't scare away anyone new, it's like that old friend who may not be the best friend ever but he's always been there for you, you know?
I’m a big fan of KO too for those same reasons.
KO is certainly NOT on the shelf at every place that sells deenz here in good old Los Angeles, CA! Here, in grocery stores I can find Kroger, Season and Wild Planet. If I go to the "99" cent store, (where everything cost $1.25 now) I can find and Polar and Beach Cliff. If I go to the liquor store (to get that 40oz to wash dem' deenz down) its going to be Beach Cliff. The only place I always find KO is at CVS and they will also have Bumble Bee.
90% of all my deen eatin is from the King.
KO is solid. Like a 90s honda.
@@abelq8008 not fancy but dependable quality.
thank you! I would never tried sardines without your videos. They are in the rotation for sure now. good stuff!
Yeah, the Seasons skinless/boneless are always on the shelf here in this house. Very easy way to get into tinned fish. The foil tops are nice, too. A little easier to deal with, in my opinion. Seasons makes a very good, very inoffensive product that anyone can enjoy.
I never knew I needed this kind of content in my life
Years ago while driving in the States I did discover Moroccan sardines. Quite fascinating experience to eat sardines without skin or bones. However all Sardines should be packed in Olive oil. I've even had them in rapeseed oil but it makes me feel like I have to polish some furniture afterwards
@@derfroschprinzausbayern Ah the seed oil meme based on not being able to read past the first sentence. Seeds nuts and nut and seed oils are healthy in moderation, they can either reduce or increase inflammation depending on your total Omega 3-6-9 intake ratio. Any omega imbalance can cause inflammation, including a lack of omega 3.

almost everything you eat is or was in some way used as an industrial product, do you have a point? Do you just not care about what things you eat actually are, are you just guided purely by association and Russian flerf botnets? lol

What are we even doing here? Boneyless + skinned sardines? I'm ready for ONLY spines and skins cans of sardines. BRING IT ON
Thats were all minerals and collagen lies
Pretty important part
Eventually we’ll see this guy on the news as a “Sardine Expert” when there’s any sardine related news.
I love the Season sardines, I eat them on toast. Yummy!
Hey Nan!
Your upload made my day fr🐟🐟🤗
Prob the absolute most bizarre and niche channel/video I’ve ever seen
I never even knew this was a thing, boneless and skinless that is, and I eat canned fish on the regular! Another great vid, awesome.
Just beginning my sardine journey, but I started with the same Season brand you enjoyed. Glad you liked it, because I loved them.
Well I started my journey on sardines today cause of you, got my first can and really enjoyed it, gonna try eating them for breakfast every day
I'm glad I found these videos
Damn the smooth jazz cover of the Eyewitness theme gave me whiplash
I like the Brunswick boneless & butterflied sardine fillets. But on the box it says it's actually herring. So not really fair to compare to pilchards. Great vid! ✌️
pilchards are herring
I want to try these.
amazing channel and amazing content
First time I've seen your channel, and I subscribed immediately. 😀 thank you.
Thank you for doing this video!
You're welcome!
This gentleman is definitely the dream team wingman when it comes to navigating the uncharted waters of tinned fish taste testing.
More canned Fish bell , keep doing your Great Work .
Thank you, after watching your videos I finally got the courage to break out that can of sardines I’ve had in my pantry for too long. Was very close to tuna, surprisingly pretty decent. I see more sardines in my future.
Thanks for the skinless/boneless battle royal. I would probably never have multiple cans going at once and it was interesting to see that there is a difference even though they were all pretty much Moroccan processed. I prefer all proteins with more than the lean. Enjoy bones, skin, cartilage, fat, etc. to me that’s where the texture and added flavor comes in. thanks again….
We need that Calci-YUM
Awesome video.
'Seasons' goes on sale at Costco like 3x per year. They seem ok to me. I need to add some salt, and sometimes add some mayo to help it smear on a sandwich bun. I think I've added some raw, sweet onion and that's good too.
I’ve eaten the seasons for a bit and they are superior. I’ve tried many others and your reviews are always legit. I hope you find your way bro. Much love.
Season is my favorite but I have only had that and Wild Catch which are good too
i LOVE the season ones. i have like 40 cans of them from costco 😂
Love the videos man! I had tried them before and they were ok. But really like them now. I actually like the skinless and boneless. I mostly like them as they are a bigger fish. I will have to try the Seasons. I was not a fan of them when I tried them. I love KOs! Thanks again!
That Cento brand looks great! Those are some gigantic sardine fillets!
The TierZoo music during the tier listing was great.
This guy looks straight out of super bad or smtn. He has a canned fish yt channel. But his vibe? Immaculate. This man is so damn confident, I’d buy fish from him!
Excellent video as always dude! I’ve walked by the crown princess 1000 times at the store, I had a feeling that’s how they would taste. 🍻💚
For the record, their kippers are all right, and the smoked oysters aren't terrible either. I think the sprats are alright too. I think pilchards are out of their wheelhouse, and they just got it wrong with these.
@@CannedFishFiles duly noted! Your the man Matt
It's pretty labor intensive to skin and debone them without losing the fat and labor is fairly cheap in morocco. They also do it in portugal though.
Skinless and boneless king Oscar Spanish style is awesome. The vegetables melt lol.
Nice video, explenation. Thanks
King Oscar's gotta be at the top man. I wouldnt have even known about them if I didnt see this series a while ago. Now I always have 2 cans on me
2 cans? You gotta' pump those numbers up!
The most portable and nutritious snack on earth.
@@Hartlor_Tayley great for hiking, and fishing, you will always "catch some fish" that way!! ;D
You should do a tier list of a bunch of different brands, or build on this one over time.
Crown prince was my go-to for boneless skinless when I was working on the road.
Great review, you do Yeoman's work in bringing the canned goodness of sardines and other fishy edibles to the world's attention. Seasons skinless and boneless is my go to for a good sardine experience.Just so that you know seasons has 2 cans with different weights that make all the difference in size and texture of their delightful sardines. Thanks Matt
I came for the sardines, but stayed to check out your library. Some interesting titles there, amigo.
Nice one. These would be the "recipe fish" rather than the eating out of the can fish for me. Salad Niçoise, comes to mind or some sort of fish and pasta dish. Soybean not going to kill you when it's just a "glossy finish" on the fish, would not drink it maybe as you would with EVOO. Glad you did this one, no excuses now from the squeamish to try a nice cheap protein alternative. Would make nice "tuna fish" sandwiched too, mashed up in a good mayo, possibly homemade. Yum!! :D
I'm excited.🤗
You opened the Roland!!
The reason most of the skinless and boneless sardines come from Morocco is because there’s a species of sardines that are native to the coast of Morocco that are born without skin or bones, they also can themselves after reproducing.
Why am I subscribed?? Why cant I stop watching?
I have gone from trying 1 tin of deenz because of your don't be a wimp video. But three in one day is my new pb for me because watching you and chomping is so fun. I need help Matt, come save me 😱
It's 1am and I am binge watching a guy eating sardines. Something definitely went wring with m life. Anyway, have some likes on your videos
Must be my lucky day or something.. Just renamed my Final Fantasy 14 character to Sardina Pilchardus and Matt comes out with this video and says it
Happy adventuring Sardina!
Love your channel! Can you review Belas Mackerel in piri piri? They're the only ones I have at my local grocery, and I was pleasantly surprised!
You're coming dangerously close to drawing the ire and attention of the Moroccan sardine cabal. Tread lightly.
Every store I go to I'm looking for new fish
. I've found season sucks all-around.
You can take my scales away but don't you EVER take my skin and spine away!😂
This dude is awesome he looks like a real life Meat Canyon cartoon.
Have you ever tried using a can opener on the ones which have soft fish? It helps you get them out in one piece if there’s no lip. On a different note, have you seen my impersonation of a tin opener? It’s uncanny!
oh no, the "Uncanny Fish Files!"
britinmadrid I'd the uncanny valet. Thanks for the tip, though.
There's a huge, family owned processing of sardines plant in Morocco. I'd love to visit the plant. It is the Valhalla of Sardines.🤔
One of the large Asian grocers in my area (Va Bch, Va) carries an assortment of Moroccan sardines. So far, all have been good. I tried skinless boneless once and it was King Oscar. Didn't care for them. Recently tried Wild Planet. ugh! Thankfully the crows in the neighborhood liked them.
There is only ONE sardine that should be eaten by the connoisseur of sardines, and that is the King Oscar sardine!
I like the Cento and K.O. anchovies om my pizza, sometimes straight out of the can...
I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and previously I was just picking up cans of Herrings/Mackerel/Sardines in Lidl or Aldi to have as a quick lunchtime work snack, usually supermarket own brand, but seeing some of the higher end brands you've been eating on your channel has whetted my appetite for something a bit more deluxe.
Greetings from Ireland (we've got great seafood here), how did you become so enthusiastic about tinned fish if you don't mind me asking?
I like Brunswick sardine fillets (from Canada) but they have the skins on them. That may be too scary for a beginner.
now i might consider something like this- a little put off by spines, etc.
Just got my new order of king Oscar with jalapenos they are so good
They are great
King oscar/ seasons are a favorites. Yummm
Hi Matthew, thanks for the review. I don’t like skinless and boneless sardines much, as their flavor profile is lost due to extra processing (just like beer in a glass bottle is better than beer in a can).
My favourites are in sunflower oil with lemon or /refrigerated/ in tomato sauce (these are super refreshing). Perhaps you should be doing a review of these too as a follow up?😎
Sometimes beer is better from a can, the light can't mess with it. I've had some beers (usually in green bottles) that smelled and tasted like a skunk's asshole, but you try the same beer from a can and it's fine.
Beer in a glass bottle being better is placebo effect, or you've just enjoyed the beers you've happened to have in a bottle more than the ones you've had in a can.
Also maybe you like the experience of just having a heavier thing in your hand, there's more pomp and circumstance to a glass bottle than a can. You can weaponize a glass bottle in a pinch. A glass bottle is a nice thing, for sure.
They're also heavy as all hell and tend to be more costly, though, and UV rays can damage the product within, which is why ISB bottles tend to be dark brown, like some chemicals bottles are, to prevent this. I don't think the green bottles do the job as well, and clear ones are just a dumb idea.
@@YevhenRawrs It’s not placebo. I’ve worked at one of the bigger breweries in our country as a part time worker(student). Preservation methods (pasteurization etc) are different for cans, glass bottles and kegs. Cans need more preservation hence the taste is worse.
I’ve never seen a 30 pack of bottles though…. So that’s a problem.
As a kid i used to eat sardines in mustard sauce. I nevwr knew theybwere supposed to be esten whole. But now that i know aboit boneless skinless ill be trying some soon.
Love from Bayridge
Nice review. I like to be liking sprats or brislings much more than pilchards. The boneless skinless varieties while okay, don't do anything for me and I don't buy them. I want all the skin and bones to get all the health benefits and textures that I enjoy. I eat 5 cans a week rotating KO, Brunswick, and Polar which are all relatively inexpensive and good quality. Good enough right out of the can with a side of whole pickled jalapenos. On another note, I reckon those boneless skinless you tried in this video would have been heaps better with that Espinaler sauce! Mahalo Matthew!
"whole pickled jalapenos" my mouth watered a little bit!
the skin & bones don't bug me too much but the internal organs & what not creep me out.
I never get that change brands they gut them just looks weird
Hey, have you ever considered taking a survey of your viewers on what their favorite daily sardine is?
the "viscosity" of the oil...lol
it's 10W20 I think!! LOL ;D
Interesting to note that they often come from Morocco - the bar harbor skinless/boneless are the only ones I have that say Latvia instead.
Anyone else squint when he called that Cento can "orange?" Haha
lol whoops
