700€ in two days picking wild berries in Finland

  • Cloudberry is my favourite wild berry, and it also happens to be one of the most expensive berry in Finland. I use to sell some cloudberries every summer. Picking one pucket (9kg) takes 2-5 hours depending on the year. Also it's often difficult to get to the spot so travelling and walking takes easily 3-6 hours if you don't live nearby.

Never heard of these berries, I am sure that they are yummy! So you can make juice, jams and pies like with any other berry? Maybe you can plant some on the property near the cabin? Of course, extra $$ is always a good thing! Take care.

      Cloudberries only grow wild and are particular about where they grow, so you cannot farm them. So people who know of cloudberry patches in their neck of the wood tends to keep it to themselves, however since we got allemansrätten or "every mans right" it's free for everyone to pick and nobody can say this patch is theirs, even if they own the forest. The vast majority of berries go unipcked by human hands anyway.
      We mainly make jam from them.

    • @FinnishPlayground
      @FinnishPlayground  Před 3 lety +3

      Tänä vuonna sitä tuntuu olevan lähes joka paikassa, mutta kyllähän se yleensä on etsimisessä. Riittävän isoille soille kun menee, niin siellä riittää isommallekin porukalle. Avosoilla kypsyy ensin, joten aloittelen sieltä ja sitten pikkuhiljaa korpihillaa etsimään. En tiedä missä asut, mutta oman kokemukseni mukaan saa Oulusta reilusti mennä pohjoiseen, että alkaa kunnon paikkoja löytyä. Tsemppiä tuleville hillareissuille!
