- This is an vintage Circle Y saddle before and after cleaning and oiling.
The entire process did take about 3 days and I went through a lot of product.

How much time do you leave between each layer of oil 😅
Thank you for your comment. The times will vary depending on how dry your leather is, and how hot the weather is. If it is a warm day oil will absorb faster, it's not advised to oil your saddle when it's below 50°. I would say about an hour between layers is probably average. Some people soak for a few hours.
Thank you! Great video. I have my 1980’s Circle Y equitation show saddle similar to this one that was sitting in my sister-in-laws barn in Palm Springs for years when I loaned it to her. Sitting on the ground and her grandkids using it to play on. So when I got it back it was not only dried out and cracked, but the fenders misshapen. And some parts missing. So far it has had 5 coats of Leather Honey, and several more coats of Lexol a friend applied for me. Look much better but still needs more. I am going to use Neatsfoot oil now as you suggest. I have a good cream for the last coat. My silver is not shining up like it used to. I wonder if Sterling can get to a lint where it won’t shine? I will try the product you used and a buffer to see if that works.
My question for you: is there anything to do for the suede seat besides replacing it? Mine is so dry with a few small mildew spots, and when I first pushed on the seat part a bit crackly underneath. Palm Springs heat is harsh. Thank you!! Jana

Here's another circle Y saddle that had seat issues that I ended up replacing the seat. It was about $200 to have it done. And I love it now.

You can use a wire brush to buff the seat but it depends on how thick it is.
Dryer climates will require more regular oiling since it will dry out. If you can get on a schedule of wiping down with Murphy's each ride before you put your saddle up it will help a great deal.

Thank you for your comment. It really depends if it's actual sheepskin or if it's the synthetic. If it's real sheepskin I've been told that a mixture of Woolite and water with a scrub brush should be the best way to clean it. If it's synthetic just a light Dawn dishwashing soap in a scrub brush and water to clean. As far as getting rid of a moldy smell oh, I have actually had success mixing the oil that I used oil the saddles with an essential oil like peppermint it smells Pleasant and keeps spiders and rodents away from your saddles. Hope that helps. I think you gave me a good idea about how to clean the bottom of the fleece though that's good
