  • The third episode in NPT Reports: Children's Health Crisis will explore the causes, consequences and possible solutions to the epidemic of obesity in Tennessee. Experts will outline the potentially devastating medical and social consequences of the current generation of children increasingly susceptible to a host of obesity-related illness including the fact that they may be the first generation to have shorter life spans than their parents. The program also looks at solutions based on the individual, community and policy-maker levels.

      I use to be a pepsi drinker and one day I decided to quit drinking it for a year because I thought it had changed since I was a child. It did. One day at my mothers she put a pepsi in front of me and I thought oh no here we go again. It tasted so bad I couldn't drink it. That was after 6 months of not drinking it. Now I drink water.

      Do some research on calcium and you'll see that you don't need to drink milk.

    I am tired of hearing that genes determine if u get obese or not.It doesnt.Genes give u a predisposition to storing up fat just as they give u predisposition to adiction,but genes alone dont make u fat,it is the combination between genes, environement, education and choices u make,the last two being the most important factors.

      cuculina100 Right. It's not that obesity runs in your family. It's that no one runs in your family. Sounds mean, but it's true.

      Agree. It's usually because the parents who eat huge portions have no idea what a child size portion looks like. Of course obese parents also have more junk food options in the house.

    "big box" school, big box stores, big box shopping centers, big box churches. America has perfected industrial expedience and efficiency. It's an industrial feedback loop that generates profits (through cheap product) but destroys the health of the environment and the population.

    Schools & parents don't let the kids walk very far to school today. I walked 1 & 1/2 miles to Jr High. My niece live less than a 1/4 mile away from the school & takes the bus. Her parents even drive her to the bus stop just 150 or so feet away (for safety). She is 270lbs at 12yrs old. She wasn't even allowed to play in her own back yard without a parent & they lived on a quiet dead end street in NH. My brother was afraid she'd be kidnapped.

    Shocked by the use of plastic in schools! 😱😱😱
    Outrageous 😱
    So much waste...
    Why not wash up everything like we do in France?
    It also changes how you get your eating habits.
    We say people don't sit down and eat together...
    Hence when eating together, you should make it and present it as nice as possible... Paper and plastic is not nice... Plus, it is not ethical/ecological today!
    Glassware and cutlery are part of eating.
    In a classic plate, you can get used to portion...It is nicer to your senses...
    You cannot have picnic meals and have kids behaving well around food, can you?
    Very strange...

    So I guess, the parents should be educated to educate and to eat properly...
    Then, problem solved when it comes to food advertising targeting children.

    What about some real nutrition density like, fresh game meat, organ meat, fish, eggs, full fat dairy, leafy green vegetables such as kale, mustard greens, collard greens, spinach, arugula etc?

    • @MsJubjubbird
      @MsJubjubbird Před 6 lety

      Full fat dairy is not necessary or recommended for kids over five. It's been linked to cardiovascular disease due to the body's limited capacity to break down saturated fat. And most people cannot afford to eat kale and the fashionable vegetables such daily. Steamed peas and carrots and broccoli are fine

      @@MsJubjubbird The American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition analyzed 28 studies from 7 countries on whether being raised on reduced-fat milk did anything to lower a child’s risk of obesity. It didn’t. In fact 18 of the studies showed that kids raised on full fat cow’s milk were actually leaner. Of course, now they’ve launched NEW studies to figure out why.

    • @MsJubjubbird
      @MsJubjubbird Před 3 lety

      @@schatzeeone6230 I imagine there are many confounding factors involved. it's not just obesity though. It's the saturated fat content, which is not great for cardiovascular health. You can be a healthy weight but still not be healthy. Plus it's about getting children into good eating habits for when they are older.

    I do not understand. If some states have such high childhood obesity, why does the doctor say obese children are isolated when dating? Can't an obese adolescent date another obese adolescent? There should be an equal number of obese boys and obese girls?

    • @MsJubjubbird
      @MsJubjubbird Před 6 lety

      Because the majority of kids are still not obese. 1 in 5 kids are obese so 4 in 5 are not. More boys than girls are obese too. Most likely because females are more image and health conscious than males

    • @ptnibin123456
      @ptnibin123456 Před 3 lety +2

      The real reason is that obese kids do not want to date others who are obese...they want someone who looks fit and attractive and would not accept anyone obese even if they themselves are obese.
