At some point you really just have to call out the policymakers that insist on keeping this system as evil. They know that people are dying from eating too much of the only things they pay farmers to produce, while they also make sure that people cannot afford to pay for more of what they need. It's predatory behaviour.

The current heavy subsidizing of corn production in the US should really be shifted towards supporting the production of fruit & veg. The corn subsidies distort market competition in such a negative way, considering that a major percentage of the corn is used for the production of unhealthy ingredients like corn syrup.
It strikes me as almost immoral that the US government is publicly funding the junk food industry like that, especially with the current obesity crisis worsening every year.

Good documentary. Im am still always shocked by the amount of package and plastic is used by the Americans. Meals in school and in the hospital - all is one-way/ throw away dishes wrapped in foil and plastics and aluminium. Don't you have dishwashers? Aren't you horrified by the amount of rubbish and waste that is produced and that you use?
In Germany, the number of obese people is also rising, but it is still much much less and people are rarely as obese as in UK and USA. In our stores, we also don't find as much processed food and ready-meals. People also want to be served good food in canteens and schools. There is always vegetables and different sorts of salads and raw veggie. Of course, some canteens are better, some worse. Also depends on the price. But I guess we also walk more, use more public transport (meaning: You have to walk and stand, too) and ride our bikes. We don't have that aggressive advertisement from Kellogg's & Co. During children's program on the public television, there is no advertisement. That's not the case with the (more in number, of course) private TV-stations. TV-Shows and programs in the US-TV are also often interrupted by advertisement. We don't have that as much. Guess, it all adds up to being still not as obese as the US or UK. But who knows, children are more often obese or at least overweight compared to before. Adults are more often overweight or obese. Problem is: the poorer part of the population (and you don't have to be really poor, but earning just below average) and fresh food (fruit and vegetables) are expensive, if not bought at a discount supermarket, where fruits often don't taste very good.
Still: So much fresh food is being thrown away. Day by day. Who can understand??

I don't live in a so-called food desert and yet, there are obese people everywhere. I think we offer too many excuses for lazy, self-indulgent behavior. It's not the government's fault, not the school's fault, not the vending machine at work, either. It's what you shove in your pie hole, plain and simple. Nobody is holding fat people down and force feeding them soda pop and pepperoni pizza.

I still do not understand why it has to be "small farmer". In Europe (Spain, Italy) we got big farmers that grow up tomatoes, broccolis, carrots, and make money. They send it to the markets (not local markets, just city markets) in big boxes in refrigerated trucks, and the sellers gives you the amount of fruit/vegetable you need (1 kg, 2, kg...). No need for strange equipment, just fridges and 20-30 kg boxes (and food is cheaper, btw)

The "thumbs up"-guy (the regional farmers logistics guy) has access to fresh regional food and is so overweight. I don't get it. Also: Oranges cut one day and served the next day, same with the salad portions: I guess, the will stand in the freezer room overnight. That is a lot of energy to keep it more or less fresh. At least it will look kind of fresh, vitamins partly gone. And also: Plastic and one-time-use-cups. You have to change that! I mean, you wouldn't get lobster on plastic or styrofoam-plates here. In the US: no problem at all.
I am sure, the staff in the hospital kitchen are much happier now with really cooking and preparing real food (not only opening tins and boxes and stirring with water and heating it up).

Give your kids the healthier juice box: Fruitables, fruit and vegetable juice blends.

Fruits are overrated. As a matter of fact I would keep fruit consumption low. It's the sugar and fast carbs that creates trouble. You need alot of insulin to break that down. Eat low GI. Eat lean meat and protein in general and add natural fat plus veggies. That way you'll avoid spikes in blood sugar levels and ensure low insulin level.

metabolism. Disagree I think fruits are bad too. Better to stick with one fourth of cup of berries, pray with more breads, candy refined sugar pop mabey diet is ok but limit it. An obese person cant have but only one fruit per day. Meats and healthy fats. Back in the 50s they blame fats but it's when the sugar and bread industry came along b4 that bread was not so heavenly processed but now it's bad. That's we hat created obesity high process foods junk foods and gmo fruits and veggies with pesticides and herbicides that make a person hungry. Also get plenty of sleep. And stress can make you gain weight without eating cause it raises cortisone levels in your body. You can be doing everything right and still gain weight! Dam just looking at food and ha ing a bad life can do it. I know people in ludington me who eat deviant and exercise and still gain weight so it h

@spirals 73 well of course if you've got a specific medical condition you should limit consumption. The point I'm trying to make is most people are drinking sodas and eating candies that are all sugar and have no nutritional value. But if you are living a healthy lifestyle with daily exercise, stress management, healthy diet and enough sleep, and you don't have medical condition such as you do, then a bit of fruit here and there shouldn't cause you issues. here is my advise for your health if you keep eating the white mans toxic junk food one day you will get cancer or heart disease ; How to stay healthy ...; kenogenic meet diet and eating fat will give you heart disease ,liver disease , kidney desease - dyalisis , it will give you a fatty liver , Gallbladder disease and will plug up the pancreas ducts with fat and make you insulin resistant dont eat any type of oil or fat , no chease , no dairy .I have a question. Which is worse, millions of of poor Africans starving to death or Millions of Americans Eating them selves to death ?...Americans eating to death are worse, because they actually "can make a "choice" not to eat too much. They're lacking of self control , ""discipline"" . Those poor Africans do not have choices but to starve.
The biggest problem with controlling diabetes and weight through diet is the lazy human variable. You can lead a horse to water but cant force them to drink. Most people rather eat fast food , factory frozen food ,protein powder made in china full of casein ,
pills or shoot insulin than to change their shitty eating habits. We live in an "instant gratification"
society full of people with 0 discipline or work ethic.
    Sad but true .....

no sugar no sweeteners .Insulin resistance comes primarily sugar ,carbs and from the fat we eat . fat accumulates in the pancreas ducts and slowly you become insulin resistant... Eat a organic whole food plant based diets are very low in fat and the fat we wear.. being over fat causes fats to be put into the blood and recirculated back to fat cells. Although a bit over simplified this characterization of the problem helps persons understand why by cutting fats out of their diet their serum glucoses improve quickly. As they lose fat off their body and get down to normal weight and they continue to improve but more gradually .

Intermediate fasting will shrink your stomach naturally ; when you're hungry eat "resistant starches" like half green banana , Artichokes , "barley" is great it will make you full and is so healthy, Use Barley instead of rice or cereals .Eat barley every day make sure its organic and sleep 10 hours a night ,
if you can't sleep at night take 2 mg of melotonin on empty stomach 2 hour before bed time .Melotonin will bring down estrogen and help you lose weight and help you with insulin resistant and many other diseases. If you are over 40 you should take melotonin every night . If you're over 50 yrs old you can take 50 mg. of DHEA hormone will give you energy and help you lose weight ,,.40 mg. of zinc also good for older folks
. and last do light weights Walk 12 thousand steps a day after dinner .Don't over exercise or it will make you over eat .and last don't eat chocolate , chocolate is a stimulant .

So only have one half a apple when you eat it or one fourth of a apple. Bananas are the same as apples. I believe an orange has got 30 total carbs and sugar. Blueberries blackberries raspberries is a lot lower.i only can have one eight cup of nlueberries.2 pieces of meat per day and a tablespoon of fat on them since I get lean. On the Atkins keto diet. To a food addict that all sounds like severe restriction and mental torture. It’s hard to imagine eating right when you’ve been doing it wrong your entire life.

This programme is not reflecting the real cause of obesity.
I appreciate the small farmers concerns and their will to move into increasing production...reaching broad markets and changing consumers attitudes.
However..this video looks like vegan diet propaganda.
Never takes under consideration whatsoever fact that it's SUGAR ..STARCHES AND VEGETABLE OILS that are true reason for obesity epidemic...to point to just the basic few.
Nobody mentions meat farmers either .
    WHY!?
Meat..as fatty as possible..full cheese...full milk...butter...eggs ect. are the paramount in proper nutrition ...and by that..keeping ppl slimmer and healthy.
Many fruits are NOT A desired choice for they contain excessive amounts of fructose or starch and not enough desirable nutrients.
Ie. banana.. pineapple..mango..evrn an apple is controversial.
Focus on good fats ..as saturated as possible...fatty meats..fatty fish..leafy veggies and ..somr fruits..mostly berries.
    Adios obesity!!!

Some fruits are sweeter than others. Also, keep in mind that fruits have fiber in them. I have yet to meet someone that eats too many vegetables and fruits but I have met people that eat too much meats and animal products. So most Americans would benefit from eating fruits and veggies. Did you miss the part where it said not enough Americans are consuming these? Did you also miss the fact that industrial farming is not producing the most nutritious fruits and veggies?

The worst advice you can give an obese person is to eat more fruit.

BULLSHIT! Eat whatever you like. The problem is not the quality of the food you eat... it is the quantity! I have never heard of anyone getting fat on what they did NOT eat. You get what you expect. Have you ever heard of the placebo or nobebo effect? Check it out.

The quality of food does matter. Do you really think processed foods have the same nutritional value as fresh foods?! Yeah, processed foods might be okay in tiny quantities but it should not make the bulk of someone’s diet.

Bullshit! Eat whatever you like. Obesity is a matter of choice. It is simply a question of personal responsibility to limit the quantity of what you eat.
