    I love IKEA’s products. As you mention in one of your other videos, the value they offer is incredible on a lot of their items. One thing I’ve gotten into the habit of is using good quality clear silicone to adhere parts when assembling. For example, where a gable and a bottom meet, I run a small bead at the butt to further stiffen the assembly, reduce the tendency for the cam fittings to “walk apart” and overall improve the strength of the assembly. I find the silicone bonds very well to painted or melamine parts but also raw wood edges. I also squirt a good shot of silicone into each hole that receives a pin and locks with a cam. The silicone will bond the parts of that faster but also acts as a lubricant to help the cam turn effortlessly and not get hung up on the pin. I also work for a shop that does custom kitchens all made of 3/4” birch ply. When I started there they too used the plastic levelling feet on all cabinets which I found to be a pain, specifically the back ones. What I started doing is mounting a 3” cleat of 3/4” birch ply, using a laser to set it, where all my base cabinets will go. Then I remove the back legs and set the cabinets onto the cleat, which now has all the boxes at the right height and level. I then gang them together and finally adjust just the front legs to plumb the units. I’ve found this works really well. Great videos- keep them coming 🙂

    This is great ! You helped me do my first IKEA kitchen in our FL condo. Now we are doing our home and it has an island. You are a great instructor ! You lay out every detail.

      I used to live in Nova Scotia when I was a kid, I do remember seeing some amazing woodworking while I was there, particularly a guy my dad knew who made wooden canoes. I'll admit, most Americans have the "pay someone else to do it" mindset. Thus they never learn or appreciate a craft.

    Hi Kody I’m planning on adding a receptacle behind the base cabinet (peninsula). Do I need to run a flex conduit wiring or a bared Romex wire is good enough? Thnx.

    Hi Kody, your videos are very informative I’m doing Ikea kitchen and I watch all your videos, I’m sure I will watch it over and over till I complete my kitchen. I have a question; due to shortage of supplies, can I use base oven kitchen as sink cabinet? If you can answer this as quickly as possible, I would really appreciate. Thanks in advance🙏

    I have an existing floating vinyl plank floor. Is it OK to install a peninsula with quartz countertop on top? Idea was to use the feet and pine support blocks. Side of peninsula will be screwed into wall. I'm concerned about the floating floor being pinched.

    Great video series! How would you cover the ends of an island with two base cabinets back to back and not have the seam in the middle?

    • @Diniecita
      @Diniecita Před 2 lety

      I think it depends on the size. You can get larger cover pieces.

    Liquid nail the first one.
    Screw both at same time and use ring washers for clean look inside cabinet.
    Nice work and clean job site.
    Not a big fan of backside cabinets, lazy Susan's and IKEA Toe kicks

    Thank you Kody is it possible to widen my ikea kitchen island by 6 inches without buying new cabinets?

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  Před 3 lety

      I don’t see why not. Just build some columns with filler panels or just install bigger fillers on one end or both ends. Lots of ways to do it.

    Thank you so much for these videos! Question: in other videos i notice you do the lower cabinets than the uppers. Why? Dont they get in your way?

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  Před 3 lety

      I like to get the hardest part done first. You could definitely install the uppers first. Just make sure your layout is accurate and match the height of a pantry cabinet if you have one.

    Thank you for all your videos Kody! Do you mention anywhere - I read in a few reviews of the Ikea corners base cabinets that there is an issue with the weight of the quartz counters. Do you do any kind of reinforcements?

    • @uptokode
      @uptokode  Před 3 lety +1

      I don’t know if any reinforcements but what I have done (there’s a separate video on it) is pre-drill and add extra screws from the sides into the bottom of the cabinet. The screws get covered by other cabinets or a panel anyway. Simple and effective.

    Been watching your videos as I plan out building a media center using IKEA Kitchen cabinets. I'm trying to figure out how to do the counter top since I have some weird angles i'm trying to build out. Do you hire out for virtual consultations? I'd be interested if you do!
