  • Wireless bridge mode is a feature that’s built into a wifi router that wirelessly connects 2 networks together and makes them one network. And it does this by using a router’s wireless signal to connect to another router’s signal to bridge the 2 networks together.

    Great video. I used to flash some old Linksys routers have with the DD-WRT firmware and setup wireless bridge mode. Another use case for this is to connect devices that don't have wifi built-in but need internet access AND you can't run a cable from the device to the router. I used to have a Sony Blu-Ray player that could connect to the internet via ethernet or through a nearly $100 USB wifi adapter that only worked with certain player models. With my wireless bridge I was able to connect my Blu-Ray player to the internet without having to run an ethernet cable across the hous. Nowadays, most devices have wifi built-in so its not that big of an issue anymore, but it still can come in handy.
    Pretty cool stuff to learn and play with.

    The video was well done EXCEPT there was no discussion about wireless signal strength. Trying to get a wireless signal from a SOHO router from one building to another is likely not possible because the signal likely won't be strong enough. Also, if the signal is only 2 bars in strength, that means all connections going through the bridge (wired or wireless) will be limited in speed to the 2 bars of signal from the distant router. I also would have liked to see the option of buying a wireless bridge to connect two routers over greater distances, which would likely be required in the example shown here to get a much stronger (and therefore FASTER) signal from one router to the other.

    • @SickPrid3
      @SickPrid3 Před 2 lety +5

      All you need is external signal booster or repeaters on both ends.
      If you have access to roof of both buildings the best choice would be directional antennas.

    One thing that should be noted. The routers DO NOT HAVE TO BE THE SAME. I just bridged an old two band Linksys router with a new D-Link tri-band router. I have a desktop that relied on a small USB wireless adapter...a less than ideal internet solution. I connected to the ethernet port on the Linksys router and now have 1 gbs. The bridge mode on some routers give more than one security protocol to bridge with...WPA2 was the best choice for this configuration.

  • @Navigator00001
    @Navigator00001 Před 9 měsíci

    May I ask if it is possible to configure a wireless bridge that the bridged wirelessly router (2nd router - on the right) would be available by using a computer connected via ethernet cable to the host router (1st - on the left) (available by browser and IP address for example like the first one)? And if the answer is 'yes', how make a configuration of both devices to make it possible. Thx for the accurate answer. If not possible - then what are the options to get access to the 2nd (bridged) router when is in the bridged mode?

      That depends entirely on the routers in question and how good their wifi range is and any obstacles in between the routers. General consensus seems to be about 150 ft. on 2.4 ghz and about 50 ft on 5 Ghz.
