At the risk of sounding like an old fart, if you’d told 13 year old me in ‘88, all this info would be free, I think I’d have had a musical fizzy pee . I’m so grateful for this amazing resource.
hahaha well it's not "free" exactly, if people weren't supporting me on patreon, I couldn't do this!
@@LeviClay You have a good point. Love the eclectic content and production values. 👍
@@Mike-rw2nh and I love and appreciate the comments! It all helps :)
@SoftserveSodium erm, do you remember that feeling you got when climbing the rope in gym at school? That’s a fizzy pee. Hope that helps. 🤭
@Mike i thought that was just at my elementary school! The volleyball poles though. I'll be back if i can remember what "they" called it...
Edit: I'm back and embarrassed, but true to my word, though I can't bear to spell it out: "w---ie stroke". W-word as in hotdog and stroke as in bloodclot event, not manual manip... oh nevermind 😂
While waiting in line on the sidewalk outside of the club to see Pat Metheny with Joshua Redman, those two took the stage to warm up while all of us were watching through the window. Seeing Metheny trade licks and utterly blazing with an elite saxophone player was eye opening. They were both showboating for us while we were stuck outside waiting for the real show and what they were playing was just phenomenal - harmonically sophisticated and unbelievably musically smart. Most "shredders" have no idea how to navigate that musical universe but that's where great musical geniuses pitch camp and spend their time. Full technique was under their belts when they were teenagers - their chops and musicianship are a total given. What comes next is musical creation, composition and endless ideas. He's right up there with the best alive on any instrument. There's a reason Shawn Lane said his goal as a musician is to continually advance so he could one day approach the level of people like Metheny and Holdsworth.
ok, ok...
Metheny is a truly complete musician. It just seems like he has the ability to freely create what he hears
Pat is definitely one of my heroes. His style is so clearly his own. One of the best.
Dude, i think at this point i'd love to see a tutorial on how the hell you manage to nail these transcriptions so regularly. Jesus man, you're a beast.
That what I was thinking, too. haha
Look on his channel.... he’s done some videos showing him doing it
Easily! He watches his own videos. LOL. But, yeah. Levi is a BEAST at this!!!
Aye bro Levi is astounding!
That's his job, he said that a long time ago.
I'm not saying it's easy, but he has a lot of training
The whole tune is a masterpiece, Holland, DeJohnette, Metheny and Hancock are playing at an insane level of groove, telepathic interaction. Metheny is on fire, Hancock's solo is genius, too. And sometimes I'm not far from thinking that the rhythm section steals the show. I truly LOVE these men.
Back in the 80's I saw him twice, and each time I was floored. An amazing player
ok, ok...
Metheny's solo on Same River is just a masterpiece to me. Pat's always been about the music first. He's my favorite of all.
Levi! List to the first song of this show when the players are introduced - craziest Metheney Solo ever - Herbie was shaking his head in awe - so epic!!
That transcription was a Pat Metheny Masterclass! Will enjoy going over this one.
oh man! This one is GOLD. Thank you!!
Yes, phenomenal!
Now you’re talking! He is such a creative, innovative, musician/guitarist. Some of his fingerstyle pieces are sublime, utterly majestic and beautiful! Thankfully, I saw his Secret Stories tour and saw him in San Diego many years ago. Much appreciation for this 👌.
Yes, he is. His solo on the track Timeline (by Michael Brecker) is a masterpiece in bluesy bebop. Well worth checking out!
You have such good taste bro
Your transcribing BLOWS MY MIND.
I saw Pat Metheny live in Atlanta for my 19th birthday. I have seen Santana, King Crimson, and Peter Frampton live. The level Pat is at isnt in this dimension, he speaks through his guitar but its not just words its poetry. When he played that night he sucked the air out of the room I felt like I was going to cry tho whole time, I think I did. If we ever need an ambassador for humanity when aliens show up I think we should give them a Pat Metheny + Herbie concert they couldn't not like us after something like that.
Nothing like a good humbling after watching pat, could you look at Stephan Forte and his track 'Ad Noctem" he's often overlooked for his compositions, your doing a great job 👍
i love you for posting this thing!
I strolled into a CD store late ‘97 in Wimbledon, I was looking for something and there on the counter was this album Imaginary Day! I never heard of this jazz musician at the time but when I asked for it to be played and BOOOOM, changed my life! I now hunt for all his vinyls! Awesome as always Levi thank you!
He and Joe Pass are my two favourite jazz Guitarists I love Pats solo on the Pat Metheny Group. Song For Bilbao live video. Thanks for doing all this, much appreciated.
The first Pat song I ever heard was the montreaux live version of "are you going with me" and I was not disappointed. There are some incredible runs in that song
Gotta love Pat!
What a monster player. Great transcription !
Wow!!! Very nice!
Thank you!!!!
That was super..... great trans Levi👍
Freaking love Pat Metheny. The Way Up and Bright Size Life are my personal favorites, but essentially every album I've heard from him was amazing.
ok, ok, now we all know.
Good stuff
Thanks Levi
My brother lived with him for a semster at Miami U before he was famous or put an album...Thats just insane...My brother who at the time only listened to to rock said he didn't recognize one Album that Pat had ...lol
pat is a genius,an amazing solo
His duet album 'Beyond the sky of Missouri' with Charlie Haden (bass). A Masterpiece.
Yes, agreed!
Next up: The full Kirk Hammet Seattle 1989 guitar solo with "little wing" in the beginning. :) 6 min or so. Or put on the "To Do List" :)
Love the channel bro!
I love pat. Seen him live 3 times. But will i have the time to study this tab hmmm
Gold !
Couldnt agree more
Yes man❤
wow that was awesome!!! And what was that guitar?
Best musician ever.
Regarding all guitar solos, there many that are equal the next. I have over the years and decades listened to Les Paul,Chet Atkins,Charlie Christian,Wes Montgomery,Chuck Berry,Hendrix,Beck,Page,Gilmour,Eisley,Campbell,Benson,Everly.
Not really my kind of thing, but I do like that album he did with John Zorn.
Levi, how much will you charge for a complete transcription of Pat Metheny's Zero Tolerance for Silence?
Lol !
Only jazz guitarist that will use clean with bridge pickup
A master piece
Thank you for posting it and for the tabs
What song is this one ? I could not find the title
Thank you 🙏
Cantaloupe Island (live)
Best guitarist ever
I swear I heard Pat quote "Rockin' Robin" by the Jackson 5 in there, lol
The One...The Only... ♥WES MONTGOMERY ♥
best head of hair for sure
One of my favourite solos! Love how you add the chords to the transcription too. Thank you for the extra effort you put into this! It makes studying this 10x easier because the info is all there.
And on a less positive note, I've seen this performance a million times and that guitar still gets offensively uglier every time.
If not the best, definitely top 3.
Please more Pat Methany!!!
Yeah, Listening to this guy "tickles my brain"! I liked when him and David Bowie collaborated on a song back in the day! The only issue with him, he seems to be a little arrogant? But, I guess when you play like he does, you could expect a little of that?
I hear Martino on this one
Is that a mixer built into the guitar?
It may be a fax machine
In the first few seconds I thought it's a bass solo 😅
why jazz guitar players don't tend to do vibrato? is it because of the gauge of the strings? or because it's just not something important to them?
It's always been the tradition. There are guys who absolutely do use vibrato, but the nature of doing it is that you end up sounding more modern, and less like all the legends who came before.
One of the things I love about Grant Green is precisely his use of vibrato since it's not used so often in jazz
Also … that guitar
Nice! 👍 Hey Levi, check out Etude (Official Video) by Julian Lage. That might be a fun challenge for you. 😁
He is fantastic but i cant play anything like that.
I know this is subjective, but I think Allan Holdsworth is still better. Regardless, an amazing musician love all those half note fill ins!
I can't understand Jazz music ..... to me it all sounds like the backing track of a car chase and that everybody is playing something different however I do understand that jazz artists are some of the most accomplished musicians out there . The music itself does absolutely nothing for me except winds me up & gets me nervous
Nothing wrong with that! Not all things can be for all people 👍🏻
Pat, Benson, best. Jim Hall as well, but he's not as strong technically
That would be Joe.
or still blow dries his hair?
Maybe this is superficial but never liked that thin jazz bebop guitar tone.
That was disgusting
Amazing. But not the best ever, for me that would be Joe Pass.
Best jazz guitarist ever? Not by a long shot, Pat Metheny doesn't even come close to the greats in my opinion
Well thankfully it’s a fringe opinion
Opinions are like an a..hole... everyone has one.
He's good but not even close to "the best jazz guitarist ever".
