this man is living in a fantasy novel A hobbit hole basement? tons of cozy items? artist?? wife who loves tea??? that is fantasy character behavior i swear-
Being able to travel and paint in public is a dream of mine, but the anxiety and discomfort always wins out. The closest I've ever gotten is quietly doodling in a notebook around college grounds. It's amazing to see a reserved person like Scott go out and create such beautiful art. Next time I feel anxious to draw or paint in public, I'm gonna try to be more like you! 🖤
something that helps me when I get anxious about being in public and doing something creative is pretending it's what I do all the time. I use my tools like shields I can hide behind, too. eventually, I forget everything but the art. if/when people come up to talk to me, I jump back into the "I'm an artist, this is what I do, I got this" frame of mind and find I can maintain a conversation that way. hope this helps.
@@Jumbodunkins but then i can't hear when someone's close to me or speaking to me and I'll have anxiety about that the entire time even though it's unlikely and not a danger
I like how he’s so confident despite being so reserved. This man gives me an unruly amount of serotonin. It’s like having a cool uncle who lives in another country.
As someone who is starting to get into understanding painting after a lot of drawing, i have a big respect for people who can use their vision, and see patterns a colors in it to create art. Its hard to understand the base code of human vision, and express the actual meaning behind the image.
As a lifelong black and white (charcoal, graphite, black india ink) artist, I just have to say You described exactly what I struggle with so much, so well! I can never quite articulate what it is about color that I just can't... "pick up" on, but you described it for me perfectly here! Color and human vision are literally two massive sciences in themselves... I can't get my creativity to experiment at the same time in each one of those labs together... for one, the labs that study those subjects are as far apart as they possibly could be in my brain, and two, I just know if I go experimenting in them together at the same time... I'll ruin/hurt/explode my art somehow 🤯😅😂 I know i know... need to try and make those "happy accidents" though! Lol
I’ve drawn buildings or things I notice in big cities since I was a kid- and it’s so nice to look back at these drawings, really! Items you recommend can make this experience even stronger in the future, so thanks again, for telling us these wonderful things with your calming nice voice.
So I've been watching your videos for a while and I just wanted to say that I love how sweet and positive you are about your art, even when things go wrong. It's really inspiring, so thank you!
This year I started reading in public, like in my university café. I’ve never done something I enjoyed so in the open but it’s a nice experience, in fact, a few of my new classmates this semester recognised me as the person who reads books in the café, so that’s nice. I hope to expand to painting in public places ♥️ 🎨
This is the artist’s trip! I love drawing but I didn’t think about drawing on the street while on a trip. It’s such a calm vibe trip for ones who love drawing. It’s fun to learn those useful gadgets!
I've already had italy in my bucket list but now that i'm learning italian i feel more excited to visit there! As a teen who loves art but is struggling with self doubt, you inspire me so much Scott!! I love hearing your stories and sketches! Now i'm even more excited to visit there after watching you make art inspired by those places. I wanna do that too! Wish you and everyone reading this a good day❤
I bought myself one too and I absolutely love it! I’m not just using it for painting outside but also bc I’m physically disabled and it makes waiting inline and stuff so much easier! Thank you so much for the recommendation!!!
I have watched Scott’s art videos for about 7 months now and I have improved with my art SO much and from watching his videos for 7 months I have learned something and probably the most important rule in art and that is , have fun.
Really cool stuff but I just have to say thank you for just existing and making this cool art stuff for everyone to watch. And on the last video I commented on someone actually ended up subscribing for it, which brought me to a good 60 subscribers. So not only do you teach me painting and drawing tips, but you also help me get an audience for the things I love doing. So even if it was just for a silly story I made up in my comment that got them to subscribe, I still have to thank you a lot. So, thank you Scott, for brightening me, and everyone else’s lives a lot more than anyone/anything else
Scott, seriously, when I go on vacation and mostly just do art, I just bring like, a pack of watercolors and some pencils.. And you are such a talented artist!
ALAS I’ve stumbled across a gem 💎. Last year I had started my search for art supply bags that would be great for travel. I wasn’t just searching for something that was great for utility.. I wanted something with style. At the time I had spent my mornings meditating in a park that was placidly secluded. I’d gain inspiration from nature and would take pictures of trees to paint when I return home. My longing to paint outside was kindled. I wondered how I’d do it and questioned how to bring all my tools in a portable and comfortable fashion… I thought about it for a bit and forgot about it. That was last November of 2021. Now here I am with a video that just showed me everything that I needed 🙏🏽 thanks for this godsend!
Could you do a longer video about your recommendations for travelling supplies? I would certainly love that. My dad and I want to go and make art together (he wants to pick up drawing before retirement and I offered to show him some of my tricks 😉)
Hey! Been watching your shorts for a while. I just want to thank you for inspiring me to get back into art, I'll soon be working with Clay again after quitting as I dropped out of school for personal reasons. Your videos make me want to make just for the enjoyment of Makin art again. Thank you!
I envy sitting outside and doing art. I do it for anxiety but the process is slow. I enjoy it but sometimes people want to see, like at the zoo and always feels bad. I love these little tools. I got a lap easel at home which I love.
Hey! Fellow artist here. I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos. I only just discovered your channel a little while ago. They’re the perfect videos for any person and very fun to watch! Enjoy your day!
I live near Venice and often take the train there to look for inspiration for my stories and drawings. My solutions was to take a notebook and walk around, sitting on the ground when I sketch (idc about being annoying lol just walk around me). It's cheap and relaxing, since I just finish my sketches on the train or at home
I have a Cyclone Seat (with cushion) it’s incredibly comfortable, easy to use and compact when closed up! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a good, portable chair. I use a Chromebook case that came with a 3-ring binder I got from 5-Star for my plein air painting stuff. It works perfectly! The size is just right! If I have my larger sketchbook than I have a backpack-type bag I can put that and the Chromebook case in. I have one of those mini watercolor palettes for painting outside. I love seeing what supplies others use, how and how they carry them around 😂 especially for plein air, it always seems more awkward than anything for me.
As a suggestion for the next time you go to a different country I think you should go to Kerry in Ireland 🇮🇪 dingle or castle Gregory are to little towns in Kerry and are both really nice
have you done any videos about your art journey and how you learned and progressed over time? id be really interested to hear about where you got started and how it lead up to where you are now ❤ love you work!
Im really thankful you share these. learning about new equipment and diy/makeshift stuff i could save up for to keep doing art on the go is a game changer. Always thought i had to stick with finding a chair and a regular old pad and paper (which is fine, but depending on the environment it can get tricky) i never really wouldve known about these if not for your channel. This just makes me even more excited to draw and paint outdoors when im ready. Hope everyone gets to try it too!
oh that’s right! i’ve forgotten, but for my end of year ninth grade woodworking project, i made myself one of these boxes! it’s so nice, and much cheaper. while more bulky, i added more drawers with holes to hold paintbrushes and paint too
I love the fact that when you go to Venice you'll see DOZENS of artists doing the same thing. I live near venice and every time I go there I always see artists just minding their own business with their whole set up just drawing in all diffrent kinds of ways, and locals don't even care because they're so used to it lol
I’m going to Mexico for Christmas and was bringing my sketch supplies and paints and thankfully u gave some things that I’m surely going to buy.thank you for helping me find something that may help me.
Hey I know you’ve had issues with blending acrylics have you thought about getting a blending medium. They make them for acrylics and it’s makes them blend and not dry as quickly. And for paint brushes to keep them fresh there is a paint brush gel that helps you reshape paint brushes. Maybe give them a test.

What about that huge backpack??
Omg so excited that you know about james gurney!!
You need to pin your comment so it won't get lost.
What about the book bag did you make it or did you buy it?
When did you start painting?
I literally have to sit when i do art, it’s like i’m not capable of standing 😂
SAME!! 😂😂
Mines the opposite, when Im standing im much more focused and i can see my art from a better angle
I know! I thought it was just me
I’ll be painting and halfway through will realise I’m standing instead of sitting

Wearing headphones can help. Try going to more remote places at first then work up to more urban areas.
