    That is clearly more than 9 metres, but it is also clearly a foul. But, nevertheless, it is still the longest jump ever recorded, even longer that Carl Lewis' controversially annulled way more than 9 metre jump in 1982.

    • @timmarshall2491
      @timmarshall2491 Před 3 lety +5

      No, it's not. It was 29 ft. 7.5 in. Lewis jumped 30 ft. in 1982.

      By that logic high jump should be done not by clearing a bar but by measuring the jumper's lowest body part in the air. That would be possible but that's an entirely different event.

    • @viharsarok
      @viharsarok Před 2 lety +6

      @@robboinnz No, that's not the point of long jump. Athletics events mimic real life skills. In nature, you don't jump for no reason. There is an obstacle like a cliff or a pit you want to jump over. The obstacle is in a set place and won't do you the favor of appearing where you choose to take off.

    • @SomeRandomLad
      @SomeRandomLad Před 2 lety

      @@viharsarok No in nature, sudden music speakers would spontaneity break into existence spewing music while a flashy slightly glowly jump line appears near the edge of the cliff, while a floating faceless man appearing to be in a referee's getup holding a red flag sits intensely watching the line as if their entire life depended on watching you jump, imagine as you start walking towards the line to inspect it cheering comes from somewhere nearby but not from any visible people, moving back and trying again repeats the same cheering sounds, as you'd move backwards more setting up to bolt down the narrow space, flying off of the rocky footing you'd barely see floating cameras appear as you jump from the cliff.

    Looks like a 10m (32.808ft) jump with a .3ft. foul which is still 32 ft 6 inches. That blows Powell's jump of 8.95m (29 ft 4 1/2 inches) away by over 2 feet! Must have had a big tailwind...... Still, it is incredible.

    After reading all the comments below, Brandon B does say it was taped at 27'7.5" with a legal wind from the point of foul to where he landed, so the meter marker on the side of the pit was incorrectly placed by about a meter. Still better than Powell's jump by about 3". But a lot of people would say Carl Lewis's jump at Indianapolis in 82 was about 30' with a cross eyed racist old man calling a bogus foul.

    **EDIT --> It was 29'7.5" at the point of the foul.

    • @brandonb.288
      @brandonb.288 Před 8 lety

      From his toe to landing was 29'7.5" and the wind was legal as well.
      So - in a perfect world where he was on the board with 1cm to spare, and did not foul, he would have jumped either 29'7.25" or 29'7".
