    food republic rentals are crazy high so what they charge is okay. at maxwell stall you can see the soup stock and they have a whole chicken boiling inside to favor the soup.

    Thanks for the great and comprehensive review of BCM! Appreciate the informative and detailed narration into the dish, you're a blessing to any modern day Singapore foodie! Would appreciate more reviews of food court based stalls and places nearer the MRT which can be more accessible especially if you are brining a group around or people who don't like to trek and sweat it out for a good plate/bowl of grub. Many thanks!

      Jon Teo places near the mrt can do but food court stalls very hard haha. There are a few which I’ve found but they are much fewer and expect to pay a premium! I’ll do a few but I expect people will be complaining saying “not good enough” or something to that effect haha!

    i like my bak chor mee old school style with pork liver, pork balls and braised mushrooms. the yakitori chicken is so redundant.

    • @GregoryLeow
      @GregoryLeow  Před 6 lety

      hahaha, yeah i know. people complain about the yakitori stick all the time. it's his way of upselling the dish

  • @weekuah
    @weekuah Před 5 lety +1

    Yakitori stick is really out of place for BCM , can see that Japanese factor does not fusion well . BTW the texture of noodle mattered big time over ingredient for certain group of people that like BCM .

  • @tonycyw940
    @tonycyw940 Před 4 lety +1

    Thank you for your wonderful recommendations. That is some kind of fusion food with the yakitori. Have you ever tried the traditional dry Mee pok from Song Brothers at Telok Blangah Crescent Food center? It's really authentic old school Mee pok. Cheers.

      SJ FOO hi, a year or two ago, I did an in-depth study of bcm and tasted close to 46 bowls on singapore. Conclusion? There is a wide interpretation of what the dish is. I have my own standard but as you know that saying, one man’s meat... 😊

  • @jacobjohannsen6642

    Tried this place for lunch today.
    The Bak Chor Mee is excellent, but it continues to annoy me that flat noodles don't mix well with the rest of the ingredients, so you end up with a lot of meat and veggie bits at the bottom of the bowl after the noodles are gone.
    I also tried the abelone, which was expensive and from a tin, but still very nice and flavourful, and certainly not the worst value-for-money dish I have had in my 6 days in Singapore.
    Finally, I had the thick fish maw soup which was rich and filling, but I should have gotten something else instead, as I am sure there are more satisfying dishes available at VivoCity.

    • @GregoryLeow
      @GregoryLeow  Před 6 lety

      haha! most people use the spoon. they put the ingredients and noodles on it before putting it into their mouth.

    Sorry I might be a little late to the show -- After your experimentation, what do you consider to be the best mee kia BCM in Singapore?
    I've tried Guan and I liked it, but i find that it's a pity they don't offer a mee kia variant. Would be great if you can share more of a good mee kia BCM or more details of your 46 bowls experimentation :D
