- G.I.T. on Broadway, also known as Diana Ross and the Supremes and The Temptations on Broadway,[a] is a 1969 television special produced by Motown Productions and George Schlatter-Ed Friendly Productions. The special, a follow-up to 1968's successful TCB program, is a musical revue starring Motown's two most popular groups at the time, Diana Ross and the Supremes with the Temptations. Containing primarily Broadway showtunes, the special was taped before a live studio audience in mid-1969 and originally broadcast November 12, 1969 on NBC. Like TCB, the title of the program was derived from an acronym, this one standing for "Gettin' It Together".

@51:17 Paul was still singing Get It Get it when Diana was talking. He was feeling it😂 R.I.P. Paul.
Diana was this show
This is an amazing production, just stumbled upon this show, i never knew it existed. The costumes, the energy, everything! Its nice to see these two groups in a different way, outside of just doing the songs they're known for, wow! Its clear to see that Diana was definitely emerging as a superstar, and started her solo career shortly after this...the Temptations were very talented too. I wonder why this and their other special were never released on dvd or something? This was the year after MLK's murder...there was a lot going on the world at the time
This special was aired on NBC in 1969 and it was their 2nd TV special together from the same people who did "Laugh-In", and it was their follow-up to TCB. These two were never released on home video in any kind of format, unless you have the soundtrack. The TV soundtrack to this special was also released on the Motown label that same year following this one.
This special really showcases why Diana should have been a solo star. She had it back then.
This was basically to see if she could hold the attention of the audience without Cindy and Mary
Had it? She still HAS it
Diana Ross ++++++
Paul was still feeling himself on 51:18 my favorite member Paul Williams 😂😂😂😂 dude said "Get It, Get it!!" Plus you can see at 51:46 Otis and Corn having fun messing around 😂😂😂😂.
My favorite part of this special is at 31:11 that skit always made me crack up 😂😂😂😂 it's very funny My favorite performance is at 21:38
Lyrics to "Let The Sunshine In":
We starve, look at one another, short of breath
Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from laboratories
Facing a dying nation of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new-told lie
With supreme visions of lonely tunes
Somewhere, inside something; there is a rush of greatness
Who knows what stands in front of our lives
I fashion my future on films in space
Silence tells me secretly everything, everything
Let The Sunshine In, Let the Sunshine In . . .
Believe it or not I still have the temptations in a mellow mood album in mint condition if I were to take that album to a place like 88.3 wbgo phone's would be ringing off the hook
Dennis Edwards was a stud

The G.I.T. On Broadway Show wasn't as well produced as the "T.C.B." one (in other words, it had a lot of filler) but it had its moments! However, the opening number, "The Rhythm of Life", the "Leading Lady" and "Fiddler on the Roof" medleys (featuring "If I Were A Rich Man") and the "Let the Sunshine In"/"Funky Broadway"/G.I.T. On Broadway closing medley are well worth the price of admission! On the closing number, Diana and company show they can really "get down!" {And I love the skit where the Big Hollywood producer says he only wants Mary and Cindy - and not Diana! It was a great take on the fact that Diana would soon leave Mary and Cindy behind and Berry would put his money behind Diana and not the Supremes, however, it could have been better edited!
Opening announcer: Gary Owens
I love Diana Ross so much I love her songs so much I am my mom son name cristain battle
It was truly wonderful that as a burgeoning teenager. I had my parents, who introduced to Motown? What year I guess when the "Contours became the sensation and exciting music to come from Above. ❤️🌈🙏🏽✌🏽💜😇👍🏽😁🎹🎼🎶🌹😻🌸🌷😁😍👍🏽. GOD BLESS MR. GORDY FOR TAKING A CHANCE ON ME UNCLE AMOS Milburn......just remember "GOD IS GRACIOUS, GOD IS GOOD! GOD IS ALWAYS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD!" 🌈💐😍😇
(golf clap during the Schlatter/Friendly Productions logo)
TonyKanameKuran That must be from "Laugh-In". Too bad, they didn't put the SFM logo at the end while still using the golf clap.

@@AmyriAbernathy8665he wasn't in the group at this time Dennis Edwards replaced him after he left the group
Cindy pushed the fuck out of Mary at 13:10 🤣🤣
??????..??! 🤔
***Diana, given all the leads, not only clever lines but majorly of the dialogue, solo spots, standing 20 ft ahead of everyone else***
Diana Ross fans as a result thinking she stood out because of stellar talent instead of anything other than what I mentioned is wild.
All that you have mentioned was ORCHESTEATED that way by BERRY GORDY!!! YES, HE MADE HER A STAR!!!
AND WITH HER TENACITY TO GET IT DONE BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY MADE THEM THE POWER HOUSE COUPLE OF THAT ERA!!!
BERRY DID WITH TELEVISION FOR DIANA WHAT BEYONCE'S TEAM DOES WITH SOCIAL MEDIA FOR HER!!
@@BigMeach1 100% correct
Mary's choice of wigs in the final presentation of this GIT is the most awful choice I ever saw her make.
Diana Ross was gorgeous...the idea that Mary was prettier was never true. They had two different types of beauty. Mary was very pretty in a generic way. Diana was pretty in an unconventional way she was exotic compared to Mary's classic good looks...she was much more feline and sensual then Mary who was supposed to be the sexy one and she was, but it was Diana who brought the big guns of sexuality without trying to be sexy...she just was...
Not sure why they need to be compared. Literally every woman who set foot on stage as an official Supreme was exceptionally attractive (from Florence Ballard all the way on down to Sherrie Payne).
For what it’s worth, Diana has said herself that Mary Wilson was beautiful and glamorous. You don’t have to take something from one to compliment the other.
@@LeimertDreamer I think they meant Mary was ideal beauty and Diana is rare. Beauty to both.
@@gracegreen1859 I see.
AMEN
@@gracegreen1859 I agree completely! Mary was beautiful as was Flo and Cindy, but Diana did have a unique beauty for a black woman of that time. You were really drawn to her during many live shows and she was very photogenic.
She has definitely bleached or something I don’t remember her being so light skinned
lol she is brown skin and yes we can tan in the sun too, relax.
No bleach has been used honey
@@dindowdaw You must not be Black she looks the same till this day Periodt
I am Black I’m trying to upload these photos of her but I can not trust me this lady was way darker than this. She was boney and black. My best friend thinks I don’t like Diana. I do. Just know her skin color has most definitely changed not due to sun bathing but bleaching will do that
@@dindowdaw she is brown skin like me. I’ve seen her in the early supremes until now. It’s called lighting and makeup that changes our shades. She definitely didn’t bleach and I think it’s dumb when someone who claims to be Black doesn’t know our skin. We can tan too.
Terrible sound!
