  • A very cold but enjoyable afternoon spent at Beaconsfield railway station on the Chiltern Mainline where we see plenty of services from Chiltern Railways.
    This station was completely different to what I was expecting I must admit, almost like when the station was originally built it had 2 through lines going past. I could be wrong by the layout of the station definitely gives that impression.
    My next station is going to be Gerrards Cross.
    You can now find me on Facebook through the group Tornado922, there you will find regular updates, videos and photos from all of my goings on throughout 2017

    I think there was a middle road for the fast steamers from Paddington to Birkenhead, also The Great Central used them between Marylebone and Sheffield/ Manchester. Keep up.the good work.

    Thanks for doing this. It brings back a lot of memories. The biggest change since 1980 is the multi-story carpark, There used to be tracks in the middle of that gap and once in a great while you would see a freight train go through on them.

      This was my first time here and I can safely say it wasn't what I was expecting. In a good way though I was really pleased with how the station looked. Found it odd though that they have removed the lines. Guess the line was much busier back in those days compared to what it's now like. But I'm glad you enjoyed watching this and that it brought back some great memories for you :)

      I don't know if it was any busier but I get the impression that more trains actually stopped. That was before the days of Chiltern rail and you couldn't go much further than Wycombe or Aylesbury. A lot of people would actually go over to Amersham and take London Underground to Baker Street. Now Chiltern shares tracks with them and you can go from Amersham to Marlylebone.

    Agreed a very underrated station, I think the big gap makes the station nicer though, I thoroughly enjoyed watching, up to the usual high standards, keep up the good work and a like from me as always Jarred, hope you're keeping well

      It's a unique station really but I'm glad that I came here, if I do come back I would like to do it in warmer weather :)

    Great film, lots of speed through here loved it. Glad you stayed warm and happy there was no fatality. Extra lines, maybe a small fighter runway. Your history goes deep, dig a little you might be surprised. Thanks, again! B.P.

      Thanks for saying so I'm glad you enjoyed the film, I cant get over how close that guy was to the train when it came through, he didn't pay any attention to it and he had fair warning from the station announcement warning him that a fast train was going to pass through. Just a very stupid person really. I could go into greater detail about him but I shall hold my tongue! Knowing how our history works in this country I wouldn't be at all surprised :)

      @blkpig6664 Před 6 lety

      Yeah, pure foolish "I don't need to listen thought process" going on there! But, better him than you my man. Brilliant history to say the least, as a proud Citizen of the Monarch (Can.) I can attest to such history, it would not surprise me if it was a small runway. If you find out I'm all ears..er.. eyes? Thanks again! Great work as always, have a safe and happy holiday season. B.P.

    @KasabianFan44 Před 6 lety

    Yes, you are right, the station used to have two through tracks in the centre - and in fact there are proposals to reinstate them! :)
    Also, judging from your videos I think this may be my second favourite station on the line after Dorridge!

      Well as you said, it’s just a very cute little station, I really like the design of it (it’s nothing special but for some reason it just looks appealing) and in my opinion it really suits the town it serves!

    Why was that one train running so slow? Had a green signal.

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 6 lety

      It was running close to the previous train so was going through Amber signals. The light had only just turned green about 10 seconds before the train passed me

  • @tsangpogorge
    @tsangpogorge Před 6 lety

    There probably used to be passing loops in that gap.

    • @Nayson
      @Nayson Před 6 lety

      tsangpogorge there were through lines in the gap, much like you see at Leamington Spa further down the line. There were also through roads at High Wycombe.

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 6 lety

      Seems odd to have them removed really, or indeed have them in the first place unless at that time the line was an awful lot busier

    • @Nayson
      @Nayson Před 6 lety +1

      Tornado922 quite the opposite really, they were removed in the early 1990s when the line was resignalled and was a total backwater with ridiculously low passenger numbers, it was single track all the way from Princes Risborough to Aynho Junction (nr Banbury) until 1998.
      There have been proposals to restore the through lines at Beaconsfield for a while now and improvements have been made since those proposals (it was 40mph through the platforms at Beaconsfield not so long ago, now it's 100) but I presume it's just not hit the right cost/benefit ratio that other projects on the Chilterns have been able to deliver since privatisation. I'm sure if you sat down with a timetable and a lot of time then it might be possible to do a recast which utilises a fast train overtaking a slow one at Beaconsfield but right now Chiltern schedule those moves to happen between West & South Ruislip which is only a few miles on the London side of Beaconsfield.
      Oh, and the village is above the station (it's hilly in the Chiltern hills :P ) and it's quite lovely. You can certainly see why it's expensive to live there given its rural nature, excellent road/rail links and proximity to central London.

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 6 lety

      I've been doing some research into it and apparently large sections of the line were single track. Hard to believe really given the history of the line when Great Western were running their trains from Paddington to Birmingham. and indeed onwards to Manchester at one stage. I'm hopeful that in the years to come Chiltern Railways are able to run more services further up the line. But time shall tell, ( I had always wondered if the Chilterns were hilly :P ) I have to admit I had always thought that Beaconsfield was a bit higher up than that. But either way it's actually rather picturesque. I would like to see this in the height of summer with everything in full bloom. I'm really looking forward to getting into London Marylebone and getting the best out of the station that I can.

    • @Nayson
      @Nayson Před 6 lety

      Tornado922 it was singled post Beeching and Marylebone was cited for closure in the 80s. Hard to imagine now. Marylebone is a lovely station too, it's in an especially nice part of London. I'm there most days so if I happen to see you I'll come say hello.
