- In this video I go over the advantages and disadvantages between mouse and keyboard and controller, when it comes to playing Naraka. I feel like not a lot of people have gotten proficient at the game on both pieces of hardware, so hopefully I can give some insight that you find interesting or helpful.

CORRECTION ~ as pointed out by @Ijoame in the comments, you CAN actually sheath a weapon on controller. It's done by holding down the weapon swap button to bring up the radial menu (usually down on the dpad), and tapping Y. It's actually shocking how few people know about this considering that I confirmed with many players that the bind doesn't exist. However, it's still more cumbersome to use than it is on pc, and the fact that there is a delay when accessing the radial menu will still make tech that involves weapon swapping impossible, as far as I know.
Exactly, that needs to be fixed
Really nice video, that note about being able to shop faster on controller is crazy to me and not being able to go into fist as well
Thanks! Turns out you actually can sheath by opening up the weapon swap radial menu and tapping Y. Will pin a comment with the full correction if your curious.
nice was waiting for this one
oh god he's pressing C with his index finger
Deffo an advantage to miraculously snap back to a target you were running away from. They have no time to react and you can chain surprise attacks that way.
Miraculously XD
I played a Lot in controller before when I was using console, And play a lot of PC and used to movement and bounding, plus I have fingertip Grip.
And full honestly, with the cooldowns of some stuff and freedome of other, This is one of the most balanced PC/Controller set ups I've ever seen.
This is why I’m glad I have my Azeron gamepad, I get to use a joystick for my movement but a mouse for my camera/aim. Plus it has a lot of easily accessible binds that make any button I need super quick access. It takes time to get used to to for sure but it’s pretty fun for me.
I use a razer Tartarus gamepad and I totally agree :)
I tried to get the best of both worlds with the QMK Joystick which became popular with Fortnite players but it was rough. Being able to change the direction of your attacks on the fly is huge.
Example 1: You can engage with Dagger Charged H, and quickly hold back on joystick right before the uppercut part of the animation for reverse uppercut. This let's you isolate an opponent, because the reversed uppercut can pull an enemy out of a bigger fight.
Example 2: Great Sword, 2nd H 2-Swing Focus Attack, you can reverse the 1st swing on Joystick to bait parries, then turn the 2nd swing forward.
The types of combos you potentially make with this tech on joystick imo could be really sick. Not being able to Sheath quickly is rough, only way around it imo is just to prio melee weapons before considering ranged weapon at start.
That's not even mentioning the spacing advantages you can get from Advancing Moves commonly used for FA Dash ShortHops. Lots of potential advantages.
Interesting thoughts! Thanks for the examples, has my gears turning. The only thing that presents an issue is melee aim assist. I mention at some point in the vid that stick direction doesn’t override it, meaning that if you’re standing in front of an opponent, even if you hold directly backwards on the movement stick, your attacks will still go forwards towards the enemy. I’m doubtful that it would be worth the sacrifice of turning off melee aim assist to pull stuff like this off, but it has me curious!
@@ChefOfTheDead I've experimented, with joystick + m&kb, the directional aim assist will work correctly for joystick as long as the mouse isn't moving when the attack comes out (start up, active frames, end lag). It's hard to be consistent with I find as well. Maybe lower dpi 400-800 would be better here for m&kb + joystick.
I also got a "keyboard joystick" from GMK a while back. It works pretty well with the games I've been playing.
I'm running into one problem when trying it with Naraka Bladepoint. The joystick functions like a real controller left thumbstick, so the game often gets confused with which input type I'm using and changes the HUD often. That causes my framerate to freeze every time. Any way to get around this problem?
Love My Controller , Thx For The Vid!
This is a very good point actually. I make it all the time, and it's a big advantage for controller that weighs up the more difficult aiming. This is true for all free camera 360 degree games, including shooting games. In some cases it might make controller OP compared to M&K, especially if the game is refined and have good mechanics and movement/overview plays a big role.
I think Naraka might be such a case, not sure yet. But a better example is Metal Gear Solid V, where overview of your surroundings and accurate movement is even more important than just pure aim, as it allows you to get the "drop" on the enemy, and that usually means a big advantage. This game has an online part to it, I play on console, but I've tried it on PC too. I couldn't play with M&K ofcourse, so I tried with a controller on PC, and it felt like a massive advantage. PC players just moved in a different way than what I was used to on console. They generally just moved in one direction and were looking in the direction they were moving, while console players move and look in all directions. While the best players might have had the upper hand in aiming, that didn't really help them when I usually always got the drop on them and movement/directional control of most areas.
This should probably also apply to Naraka, even in combat, if you try to "run rings around them".. But controller mapping might need to be refined to where you can always use the right stick freely (which you can't while using the buttons on that side, unless you use that grip you show). However, setting the horizontal camera sensitivity higher should help with this..
PS. Perhaps it could be an idea to make a video about controller mapping? Try out different things and share the experience? I found the default mapping not so good.
Perhaps give my mapping a test. Weapon pickups/swaps on L3, crouch on R3.
Playing this game with the razor Tartarus is so amazing
I could not agree more.
You cannot sheath a weapon using a controller? What? That's bizarre. This "age-old" debate may in fact be a debate that has raged for only a decade or so. That said, the Chef's analysis is much appreciated. I would not have thought that mouse/keyboard could ever be a better alternative. Seeing the Chef's actual hands at 5:25 was a bit jarring. I heard that he had lost a pinky during a V5 Bouldering accident. I stand corrected. Just a thought: If you have a hundred thousand dark tide coins, you should pick up some grappling hooks, some celery, or Vermillion Birds Might. As always, well done by The ChefOfTheDead. I'm so glad he's no longer incarcerated at The Shank. However, I think the videos may slow down if he violates parole.
Made me laugh thank you
You CAN sheathe your weapon on controller.... just hold down on D-pad(like when trying to hotkey to a weapon in your bag) and hit Y(on xbox)
@@hellothere9169 yep it’s in a pinned comment now too :)
@@hellothere9169 I stand (humbly) corrected.
you can sheath a weapon on controller, it is just more complicated compared to Pc!!! You hold down your 'swap weapon' (for me its down on the d-pad) so the radial menu comes up, then you click 'Y'. I believe the game tells you when you're holding down the weapon swap in the radial menu
Wow, thank you. You have no idea how many controller players I double checked with to confirm that sheath doesn’t exist haha. Thanks for the correction!
@ChefOfTheDead Yeah, no problem. I just figured it out recently myself, haha
I can’t wait to try this after the server maintenance is finished. I’m amped, your a lifesaver
The buying items disadvantage is debatable as sure you can purchase faster on controller, however moving up and down the item list with controller is a hindrance as it's slow and janky, whereas with mouse you point and click instantly what you want to buy, drop, pick up etc
I do prefer the overall looting experience with a mouse yeah. This is even less of an advantage now since you can buy 6 grapples at once
Anyone know why when i put my mouse in on ps5 the scroll wheel is painfully slow. Is there a fix for that or no?
I couldn’t tell you sorry :(
Just downloaded naraka and I think I'd be using bumper jumper tactical flipped like I do on cod and apex
You cant change your camera to be attached to your mouse? Like World of Warcraft.
I play on xbox with a controller.
I’m not sure i know what you mean. But what I believe you mean like WoW is that you can just hold W and use your camera to turn and such? That’s how it works in naraka too
@@ChefOfTheDead well i had a razer naga mouse with a number pad on it. I set my right click so when i hold it i can swivel the camera and use my number pad for attacks. I changed my A and D keys to be strafe left and strafe right instead of turning and used my mouse to turn while strafing left and right.
I only play on controller and have never looked at the keybinding for naraka so I dont know how much you can change the original binds.
You had me laughing enough when you said controller advantage lol
There are small advantages yep, doesn’t mean it’s an overall advantage though
❤
😍
What did you decide to have your crouch/slide on? That’s the one bind I’m struggling to find comfortable on keyboard, atm it’s my upper mouse button, bottom mouse button is my counter (although I haven’t mastered that yet)
Neither really, I don’t use a normal keyboard. Check out my setup here: czcams.com/video/CYbXLR25NzE/video.html
How do i get involved with the nxct tournament is there discord for it?
Check out the official discord link in the description, there are channels for it there! “Find tourney” is the channel to keep an eye on
@@ChefOfTheDead I can't find the “Find tourney” channel in that discord but i do want to compete in a controller only tournament!
@@SoNaraka what’s your discord id? I’ll dm you a screenshot of where it is

Hey is ther is a a way to use K&M on xbox for this game?
Not that I know of
I use the same mouse and hand keyboard as you, I play mnk on Xbox lol
So controller at top level can be just as good as mkb? Asking because I’d like to be a good player but I’m on a controller! This is the first time I’ve seen someone make a video like this specifically
You can absolutely be a top tier player! If you put in the effort and the practice, you’ll get good on whatever hardware you practice on
@@ChefOfTheDead does being on console make it impossible as well? Since I’m locked at 60fps for some stupid reason, I’d really like to be able to compete with top pc players as well! Just wanna be sure before I reinstall haha
Impossible, no, but a bit harder yes. Input delay and lower fps on console makes it harder to compete at the very highest level, but for normal ranked you can still destroy pc players. Sins is one of the best console players that beats great pc players all the time. Here’s a link to Sins’ most recent video: czcams.com/video/8jz8lPSZpsE/video.html
I used to play on console as well and many of the clips in this montage: czcams.com/video/dpCaoAHZp54/video.html are on console as well. Practice makes perfect!
@@ChefOfTheDead do you think it would make a big difference given the fact that I play on a pretty decent monitor and a series s? If that made it a bit more even I’ll definitely be getting back into the game, but I’d rather not be at such an automatic big disadvantage! And thank you for all your responses it’s more helpful than I’ve gotten anywhere else on this topic lol
Am actual gaming monitor will definitely be better than a tv for sure. I’m pretty sure sins is on a series s as well. I wouldn’t worry about it too much! The biggest difference maker between players is how much practice/dedication they put in. You can have plenty of fun in ranked on console. Winning crossplay tourneys maybe unlikely but I wouldn’t care about that haha. If you truly care about being something like top 0.1% though, pc is the way for any game today
You tryed the darkwalker shotpad?
Nope I haven’t, looks interesting
I plan to get into this game on PC. Am I able to bind different configurations for every hero in the game or are the blinds for everyone has a whole? In Overwatch I can bind inputs for every character & I’m hoping Naraka is the same.
I don’t believe you can. I also enjoy that you can on overwatch, but you might be happy to hear that I don’t miss it in naraka. With only two inputs, skill and ultimate, it really doesn’t matter.
What’s the name of that item you were using at the end?
You mean the keypad thing? It’s a taser tartarus
@@ChefOfTheDead yeah thanks bro
*razer tartarus, autocorrect sorry
you can sheet weapon on controller by holding the switch button. and it says there to sheet. but still not a really good way to do it.
Yep :) check the pinned comment
The only thing i hate (idk why it dosent work ) is the graple into focus combo ... everytime i see it there is a mouse/keyboard used. If anyone knows how i can do that please tell me 😢😢
Watch my recent beginner guide! And my combos video. It’s very easy on controller
I need to change my setting
cant you just bind ctrl for crouch?
I mention this yes. I personally don’t like it though
Lmao gotta learn to use your God given thumbs man😂 5:30
Controller mapping guide please
why dont u press C with ur thumb...?
but yeah i agree and i dont even like the hand position of pressing cntrl, i usualy bind crouch to caps lock LOL
Super uncomfortable for me when slide hopping, going back and forth fast between space bar and C
on kbm i use my pinky and thumb to click buttons thats not wasd
Super awkward for me but whatever works
Just use alt for crouch use it every game I play
:O
:D
7:32 is wrong. MKB players do that ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME. Basically just hold blue focus and see what the opponent is trying to do and react accordingly. Not sure why you say it's impossible cuz the camera 'snaps'. Mine never snaps.
No, it’s not wrong. I demonstrate what happens when you try to do this on mkb at 2:22. You can clearly see how charging an attack immediately snaps your character towards the direction of the camera. Try facing the camera and charging a focus attack, you won’t be able to reproduce that 7:32 clip.
@@ChefOfTheDead im not sure about the nuances in replicating what you showed there, but the camera movement and action at 7:32 is super common among players around 2k5 rank and above. That’s barely counted as a disadvantage at all let alone saying MKB cant do it.
Appreciate the montage and you are obv a good player, but trying to make controller look good in anyway is just not working. Even for new players i would suggest using MKB asap so u dont get rekt and quit the game too early
@@IceQueenSexica Did you watch the segment at 2:05? I discuss what exactly is happening and show how trying to do the same thing does not work on mkb. It is 100% impossible to replicate the 7:32 clip with mkb. Sure you can face your camera away from the opponent and charge an attack instead, but that’s not the same thing of course, since you lose sight of the enemy.
I also talk about how it’s not *necessarily* an advantage, but it is something that I prefer.
I didn’t have an agenda with the video to make controller look good. I simply discovered some factual differences and showcased them along with my preferences.
I don’t know how you can say it’s super common on mkb when
1. I demonstrate that it’s impossible
2. You don’t know what your opponents are using
3. Cannot tell where your opponent’s camera is facing
The only way to understand the difference is to try it out for yourself. Just try to replicate the 2:05 clip, aim your camera at the training bot, and attack in various directions while maintaining the camera angle.
@@IceQueenSexicaJesus Christ you’re dense
BRO WHAT ARE U DOIN? U are bound by law to hitting the 'c' button while gaming with ur thumb!
And for crouch + jump u just slide ur thumb down from c to space
bro got E & F on some functions that arent interact.............how can one person ever use another button for interact lol
I’ve got it on a mouse button
You can put your weapons always on controller.

@@ChefOfTheDead hold D up and press Y
Yes…XD
HAHAHAHAHA....
very funny.... you silly people... having to choose beteween the two....
I play with a mouse in on hand and a controller in the other.... have been doing this since the days of quake 3 arena....
It's the only way to fly...
what ? you can attack behind your camera on controller ? ayo time to pick my controller 😂
Hahah yes please try it out, I’m super curious what high level mkb players think about it
Bro youre supposed to press c with your thumb 😂
Definitely not true haha. All the players I’ve spoken to that use C for crouch use their index finger. Use what’s comfortable for you
@@ChefOfTheDead FR???? guess im just built diff. Good looks bro
I'm used to crouch with Ctrl like in any shooter
use ur thumb for c lol
Equally uncomfy for me lol
