What a pity that despite the presence of Danie Gerber and Garth Wright, that Eastern Province never managed to win the Currie Cup. It took Natal 100 years, but if Eastern Province can manage to keep their players and even approach Ian Mc Kintosh there is no doubt that they will win the Currie Cup for the first time. They have produced some magnificent Craven Week players over the years.

Best South African player ever in Danie Gerber. One of the worst stadiums ever in Boet Erasmus. I saw Naas kick over from the corner to win the series in 81 and then I saw the best test I have ever seen in 84 against England. I was 8 and 11 at the time, still remember it. My mom and sister sat with their test tickets in the car listening to the game over the radio in 81, because of the rain.

Malan, the test series against the British Lions, captained by Billy Beaumont (current chairman of World Rugby), was in 1980. Naas Botha converted a try by Gerrie Germishuys in the third test in PE from the corner in rainy weather on a muddy field to clinch the four-test series with a lead of 3-0, after the Springboks also won the first test in Cape Town and the second in Bloemfontein. The British Lions won the last test in Pretoria, but Morné du Plessis's team won the series 3-1.
