Idukki Chinnakanalൽ നിന്ന് കാടുകടത്തിയ അരിക്കൊമ്പനെക്കൊണ്ട് പൊറുതിമുട്ടി തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലെ Meghamalai. Periyar Tiger Reserveല്‍ തുറന്നുവിട്ടശേഷം മേഘമലയിലെത്തിയ അരിക്കൊമ്പന്‍ പ്രദേശത്തെ കൃഷി നശിപ്പിച്ചു. വനം വകുപ്പിന്റെ വാഹനവും തകര്‍ത്തു. ഇതോടെ മേഘമലയില്‍ നിരോധനാജ്ഞ പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുകയും വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് നിയന്ത്രണമേര്‍പ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.
