    What is your opinion on the 7/8” Standoff from Robosource? Do those work well for boxing?

    • @gumby5068

      Yes they are good

      If you already have 7/8" standoffs from Robosource, they certainly work for boxing. However, if you don't have them yet, I will strongly recommend using spacers to box instead. They are cheaper (18.5$ / 100 spacer vs 49.5$ / 100 standoffs) and also lighter.
      The narrow use case I would use 7/8" standoffs to box is if there is no space and a nylock can't fit on either end. However, I can also just use 3/8" spacers and 1/2" standoffs to achieve the same result.
      tl;dr: I would use them if I already have them, but otherwise use spacers.

      @kinru1259 That is a fair argument... I did not notice that robosource standoffs are made of aluminum and are therefore significantly lighter than the steel screws. I stand corrected. With this established, when boxing with standoffs, I would recommend applying loctite purple on the screws to ensure that the screws would not loosen over time.
      On the other hand, I wonder how much the spacer setup would weigh if we use aluminum screws instead. Unfortunately, McMaster Carr doesn't sell 1.25" aluminum screws and the cost would likely make it not worth the cost.

    its been a while but how do you know where to box, should u just pick random positions?

    • @ryan4253b
      @ryan4253b  Před 3 měsíci

      box structural connections i.e standoff to metal and metal to metal. things that don’t withstand stress don’t need to be boxed

      @@ryan4253b i see, is it fine if i use a standoff for screw boxing on the top instead of another hex nut
