I was planning on going with a 8.8 for my 94 s10 5.3 swap. I ended up getting a killer deal on a 8.5 out of a 02 2wd 4.3 5 speed s10. Traded a catalytic converter for it. It had an open carrier in it but I swapped in a Yukon Duragrip posi. It's got 3.08 gears in it but that will work well for what I plan on doing. If my math is right it will put me right around 2k rpm at 70 mph. It's just going to be a fun driver not a racer.
@shadymaint1, is the 8.5 disc or drum brake ?
@scottshumaker4969 mine has drum brakes I'm planning on doing a disk swap in the future. Just need the brackets that bolt to the axle tubes.

Probably Tuesday, I did most the work Friday and yesterday, but ran out of welding gas when it came time to weld the spring perches on, so I need to swap my bottle out Monday when they're open.
so i used this size drill bit to drill the hole.
but i drilled a hole in the drill bit with this drill bit to drill this bit out.
this has hank hill wd40 for the wd40 vibes all over it.

Still a "C" clip rear= yes, different wheels or bolt pattern change= yes, one side longer than other= yes. All these mods to have almost a 9"
You have a complete 9" you'll sell me for $200 with disk brakes and a clutch LSD? Sweet, hook me up !
This is all cool. But I'm an S-10 guy also. There's a bolt in no mod factory 8.5". If you have the skills cool, if not. Pull a 8.5" from S-10 or S-10 Blazer with 4.3 and manual. 96 and newer they come. Blazer units at usually posi and disc.

Wil, I would have sworn you had a video where you talk thru measurements and cutting the 8.8 for a S10 that I watched recently. A video that would have come after this. I can’t find it now. It was a really good video coming from experience. Can you point me to where that might be? Thanks!
