    I'd use some silicone! For this job in particular! Or some plumbus glue.

    Thanks bill did it all by myself. They gave me the most annoying like thing to screw that down screw with though. It was a bit of a hassle to get to stick.

    Great video. Thx Bill. I have a hole the size of a tennis ball where my toilet roll holder got pulled off the wall. Could you please do a video on how to patch it. Thx

    Is there a way to work out whether the wall is plasterboard or cement sheeting?

    Good video as always Bill! Don’t know what’s up with rentals but the toilet roll holders are always missing...,weird. I’ve switched over to the butterfly style anchors for this type of thing as they pretty much have to destroy the wall pulling them out.

    Bill im not sure if you did mentioned it or not but how do you know if its cement sheet or plasterboard.

    Could you do a video on how to take out fly screens, because there's so many different types and sometimes they get broken when you try to remove them.

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  Před 3 lety +4

      Iv been meaning to do that, I’ll record the most common style tomorrow ( in Australia) in which once you understand the concept you will be able to remove and install them all 👍

    The small nail underneath where it hangs tightens the hanger so it doesn’t fall out

    Im getting my bathroom walls tiled..should i drill the hole into the wall for the toilet roll holder and put the initial screw in prior to the tiling of the wall so the tiler can cut around it ? Thanks

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  Před rokem

      Definitely not, attach it to the tile afterwards

    Really enjoy your videos...but those wall mates are TERRIBLE fixings....also did you say put the hanmer function ON for drilling into tile? I certainly wouldn't do that

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  Před 3 lety

      The wall mate plugs are great, there is 2 different types one better than the other and branding is important. Iv used the American version of them and they are terrible. As for drilling into tiles with a hammer drill, there is a few tips/tricks which make it the best for drilling into tiles. If you do it wrong then you’re in trouble. I’ll post a video on it in the future 👍

    • @ryk3899
      @ryk3899 Před 3 lety

      @@billshowto you should watch the "Gosforth handyman" video where he tests those wall mates against lots of other wall fixings. They are truly terrible and performed way below all others. You should check them out. Fischer duopowers or rawlplug tapits are perfect for that job

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  Před 3 lety +2

      Different countries may have different brands. At the end of the day each to their own, what ever works best for you that’s what’s you should use. In my experience they are great and I would definitely recommend them 👍

    • @ryk3899
      @ryk3899 Před 3 lety

      @@billshowto brand has no bearing here....it's all about how they secure themselves to the plasterboard....in that the self drilling ones don't. They churn the plasterboard and don't actually anchor to anything. As i say, if you get the chance watch the Gosforth handyman CZcams....let me know what you think

    • @paulraymond1804
      @paulraymond1804 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ryk3899 To Bill, hey matey, I'm a professional too, and those wall mates, yes the steel ones, appear to hold well when fitted but sometimes, I don't know how often, but they can fail when used for items that are often touched/bumped like toilet roll holders. I've fixed a few jobs after the fact.
      I used to use them a while ago. Now I use molly bolts, M4 and M6, for plaster fastening.
      Wall mates rely on the grip of the inner wall, and molly bolts expand behind the wall and hold widely from there. The difference is huge.

    Why tf would you use metal plugs for such a lightweight thing such as a toiletpaper holder..
