This is the second song I learned next to the national anthem in Singapore when I started working way back 1992, now I am back in my country of origin The Philippines. This is a very memorable song for me hard to forget maybe till the end of my time.

Yup, at that time the entire world watched in disbelief as Singapore became the ONLY country in the world that gained independence against its own will. It has no military (Protected by British forces), food and water was heavily dependent to Malaysia, a pitifully small landmass and surrounded by Indonesia and Malaysia, not to mention a lot of poor people and lack of infrastructure... but they pulled themselves together and now they are a first world country.

Hence, the Malays moved up north and the CPM(Communist Party Malaya) moved down south. This process is known as 'Separation'. Not the tiny island of Singapore geographically. Even the unit currency of English/Malay monies are 'separated'. Those were the days the Malayan Ringgit could be used in Singapore, same par value with Dollar. To encourage more Malaysians to work in Singapore, the unit is intentionally changed. 1SingDollar = 2 Malaysian Ringgits. Today, it is 3 RM or more. Do you enjoy this drama of transformations? the gov should really just bring back the NDP songs in the 80's - Count on me Singapore, We are Singapore, Stand up for Singapore, One People One Nation One Singapore....etc These songs are such classic. The lyrics are meaningful and timeless, and bring back so many fond memories of yesteryears and warmth and pride in everyone's heart... The new ones just cannot match up to them... And the singers - Great voice!

This is my most favourite song,it reminded me to be strong and resilient,the first two lines sang of how people didnt expect us to survive and strive after becoming an independent nation in 1965.By celebrating National day yearly,I am reminded to be grateful to our founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew for his sacrifices and the importance of unity among different races. I've been living on Pontianak (Indonesia) for all my life since i was a kid, i had remeber when watching channel tv used satelit dish.....on chanel RTB when it was night at 09 pm always changed itu singapore tv channel (i'm sorry for cannot remebering the channel name), when chanel started always show a few song like "we can change the world, lenggang kangkung, this is my country this is my flag".......and honestly the Last one is my favourite since kid..... I don't know why but i loved it so much 🙏
Until now in 2022 this song will never be forgotten even during the difficult time and is a touching moment and we as Singaporean should be grateful for thid nation as this nation has many more features to come to become a successful multi racial country and everyone will love it. I’m Singaporean,Singapore also have our OWN water,since 2002 we have a water called NEWater,and now we also have our own chicken,we built a hotel at Marina Bay 3 towers and something like a boat on top,that boat got swimming pool,Singapore got lots of island like Pulau Ubin,Pulau Samakau and more islands!Don’t think Singapore is less in land ,materials and food/water ,we are strong in this.We have at least 10 reservoir,10 islands ,43 fun places,11 indoor playground,100 house (hdb,condo and more)6 mrts ,3 lrts,2 mrts in construction.

Well to me, it was the biggest blessing in disguise for Singapore. Compared to us Malaysians, you guys although have your own problems, are nothing compared to our problems. Yup, at that time the entire world watched in disbelief as Singapore became the ONLY country in the world that gained independence against its own will. I've been living on Pontianak (Indonesia) for all my life since i was a kid, i had remeber when watching channel tv used satelit dish.....on chanel RTB when it was night at 09 pm always changed itu singapore tv channel (i'm sorry for cannot remebering the channel name), when chanel started always show a few song like "we can change the world, lenggang kangkung, this is my country this is my flag".......and honestly the Last one is my favourite since kid..... I don't know why but i loved it so much 🙏
Until now in 2022 this song will never be forgotten even during the difficult time and is a touching moment and we as Singaporean should be grateful for thid nation as this nation has many more features to come to become a successful multi racial country and everyone will love it. I Love You Singapore And Will Be Always Be In My Heart.

I’m Singaporean,Singapore also have our OWN water,since 2002 we have a water called NEWater,and now we also have our own chicken,we built a hotel at Marina Bay 3 towers and something like a boat on top,that boat got swimming pool,Singapore got lots of island like Pulau Ubin,Pulau Samakau and more islands!Don’t think Singapore is less in land ,materials and food/water ,we are strong in this.We have at least 10 reservoir,10 islands ,43 fun places,11 indoor playground,100 house (hdb,condo and more)6 mrts ,3 lrts,2 mrts in construction.
