Casas de Santana - Ilha da Madeira

Estas construções peculiares oferecem-nos uma verdadeira viagem na História da ilha. Assim, os materiais de que eram constituídas as casas de Santana são testemunho dos recursos que, historicamente, se encontravam mais à disposição na região.
Estas casas de formato triangular são feitas de madeira, um material barato e abundante neste local, que ajuda a equilibrar a temperatura no interior. Além disso, a famosa cobertura de colmo era uma outra forma de aproveitar o cultivo de cereais, como o trigo e o centeio. The slope of the roofs guaranteed the waterproofness of the house, allowing rainwater to drain.
Still outside, Santana's typical houses are known for their bright colors: blue, red and white. In turn, the interior only had an attic, to store agricultural products, and a ground floor for the residential area, divided into kitchen and bedroom.
