Baía do Funchal - Ilha da Madeira

O Funchal é uma cidade e um município português, sendo capital da Madeira. Tem uma área urbana de 76,15 km2, 105.795 habitantes em 2021, donde uma densidade populacional de 1.389 habitantes por km2, sendo a sexta maior cidade do país.
O município do Funchal,coincidindo na área e população com a cidade, está dividido em dez freguesias.O município é limitado a norte pelo município de Santana, a nordeste pelo município de Machico, a leste pelo município de Santa Cruz e a oeste pelo município de Câmara de Lobos e a sul com o Oceano Atlântico.
Foi a João Gonçalves Zarco que coube a capitania da cidade em 1424, ano em que se iniciou o povoamento. As ilhas Selvagens, 250 quilómetros a sul do Funchal, pertencem a este município, havendo desta forma descontinuidade territorial.
