Tried this method just now and it does seem to work very well. Super glue melted the styrofoam and caused the gloopy substance to seep into the gap nicely. The joint does have some flexibility and does not snap on some motion. My 2 additional suggestions are : #1 use 2 fingers of the left hand to stabilise the 2 parts of the broken arm so that the finger pushes down on the broken off part otherwise its hard to keep them flat, given the curving end of the arm. Keep a good enough distance so that the glue doesn't spill to your fingers. #2 for further reinforcement use a piece of heat shrink tubing over the broken part. About 1 inch of tubing should do it. Use a lighter and be careful to heat in quick short bursts and blow to cool frequently. Otherwise, the heat will cause the plastic arm to melt. The heat shrink tubing also eliminates the need to paint the arm and reduces slippage over the ear.

for fixing by the lens, you suggested using a hot pin and breaking it off. why not use that method on the arm? or why not use this method on the lens frame? Is there a reason for the two different methods at different parts of the glasses?
