All heavy boots team comps to counter aggressive hazard stacking 🤔 I wonder if there might be a specific Pokémon this state of the meta is resulting from
If the move corrosive gas gets added back into the game it could be an interesting option for Weezing. With Neutralizing Gas it'll be able to remove items even through sticky hold.
Glad to see you upload tour content again. I'm curious as to why you didn't chose to knock gliscor off with your own on t3. You have ample opportunities up to set up more spikes on most of their mons, and until the gliscor apple combo breaks, max layers don't matter.Taunt volcanion already destroyed them, but it seems more optimal to do it sooner.
Gliscor having no items might matter in the late game if he is in range of an item boosted knock. And knock on t3 accomplishes nothing in the long run while hazards are here to stay and you only have to worry about progres from that point
@Parecool894 Putting sticky barb on gliscor nullifies its longevity, which is immediate progress with long term implications. Stacking hazards against a full team of boots spam is not efficient unless you're confident in neutralizing the knock off absorber, aka Gliscor. Clef beats the other knock off absorber (apple) 1v1, so you'll be able to knock an additional item eventually.
@@Parecool894 The Knock users on freezai's team are highly unlikely to ever do enough damage even with the item boost, given they don't have super high attack & Gliscor can guarantee being at a minimum of 1/4 HP through PHeal + Protect
Tera Ghost Fire Spin/Taunt Volcanion is one of the best stallbreakers of the current meta. Guaranteed kill on any of that team's mons. You can see Aranacana knew he was screwed as soon as Fire Spin was revealed, even if it missed lol
@@alexpotts6520 Oh yeah you're most definitely right. The thing is, people in the OU room were actually considering using Volcanion and Clefable on the ladder to counter the rising populaity of stall so I put this out as a sidenote.
Re: last few turns: new players often underlook sticky barb clefable precisely because of that, being able to run both knock off and barb puts the enemy pivot/wall on a timer
I remember reading that it in the rmt ":Volcanion: Recently, there has been some usage of a particularly annoying set with Tera Ghost + Fire Spin + Taunt. As the team stands, there is little counterplay to this Pokémon. Your only hope is to try and catch it on a switch in and fish for status on it with :Clodsire: and/or Tera Ghost :Gliscor:. If this set becomes more popular, running Shadow Ball and/or Tera Ghost on :Blissey: might be advisable."
Gholdengo doesn't block hazards. It blocks hazard removal other than scrappy or type changed rapid spin and mold breaker defog. Court change works as well since like the hazard moves themselves, it targets the field, not Gholdengo itself. The distinction is important because it determines which moves good as gold actually block.
I personally think heavy duty boots should be reworked, they get so mush value per game that you can just put heavy duty boots on your entire team. Something like them breaking but also clearing the hazard on the switch in. Kind of like a one or maybe two time use defog when switching in
@@sluggknight7130 Even without gholdengo it is still very hard to remove hazards due to how offensive the metagame is and how oppressive the stackers are
@@june9914 I actually did this a lot back in the day with taunt encore whimsicot. I believe they nerfed encore in gen 9 and youre no longer able to encore something into something they can't do

I'll be honest, the boots spam hazard stack meta is pretty boring. If you feel like you're forced into hyper hazard defence, you take away so many possibilities for team building.
The issue is that you're never getting to click it into anything other than blissey. You also only get 2 freeze dry clicks because rocks and 3 spikes are staying up, the gliscor is tera ghost to spinblock. The team is quite good vs kyurem
I personally think that HDB spam is just as toxic as the hazard stack+gholdengo meta, probably because the first is a consequence of the ladder, at least dengo isn't as popular as it used to be.
I been playing stall the last 3 days and i gotta say, sure you lose to people who bring anti stall (not every time but like 6/10) but its made up for by the amount of people who just give you free wins at team preview. If i lose to anti stall tech, it doesnt bother me because i know im about to make up for it because most people dont wanna compermise their strat into other team styles just to prepare for the odd stall match.
I will say tho a ladder stall team is different from a tourney one. 6 HDB works on ladder but against prepared teams you need spin/defog, talonflame for gholdengo, and that item that prevents trapping moves (forget the name off top of head) on at least 2 mons
@@nicholasperry2302That's incorrect. Shed shell is the anti-trapping item, but it's not relevant. Removal is way too hard for stall, they are all boots spam rn. This apple stall is one of the main ones on ladder rn.

Thanks for showing this. As someone that watches vgc, it makes me wonder why smogon rules make stall so powerful. They could easily make stall team hard to play by limiting certain Pokémons or moves or items. Is it because people enjoy longer battles?
They don't make stall that powerful, indeed stall in gen 9 is about as weak as it has ever been. As you can see here, the stall team was completely dismantled.
They don't make stall powerful lol, this gen Is more hyper offense than any other, there's no reason to make a playstile hard to play when its not broken. Smogon always try to lean the metagame towards balance since that usually means every playstile Is viable
