  • I'm taking you guys into Venezuela's newest and fanciest luxury market. The Venezuela food crisis is now over and such luxury grocery stores are popping up all over the city. I shopped around the market and bought a few things. I was most amazed by the broad selection of alcohol and how cheap scotch whisky is in Venezuela compared to other nations.

That hyperinflation is crazy there. When you mentioned minimum wage I just looked online at professions by country ranking and thought I'd check the cashier salary, so that girl working there serving you makes $213 USD a month on average. So the cheesecake alone is nearly a weeks wage for her. How they get by man is 👏 amazing. Crazy that in this world we can have some people with more personal wealth than a small poor countries GDP and they still want more! Keep it real, keep it humble mate.

This video while informative it also has some misinformation.
I employ (5) virtual assistants who live in Venezuela. Yes, maybe you could say that the "average" monthly salary is so low because most Venezuelans are unemployed and rely on monthly provisions given by the government. However, most Venezuelans hustle to make ends meet, and to live "comfortably" a Venezuelan needs to make around $300 USD per month.
Venezuelans are some of the most resourceful people I have ever met. Unfortunately, Venezuela has been struck with severe embargos and sanctions by the world powers. While the punishment was originally intended to hurt the President and Venezuela's elite, they have found ways to manipulate the system so that these embargos and sanctions do not affect them and instead are directly suffered by the common citizen of Venezuela. It is all done in plain sight and the Powerful nations that put these embargos and punishments in place do nothing because doing something would mean they would have to admit that their embargos failed. China and Russia openly buy oil and gold from Venezuela, even with the embargos and sanctions in place, but the US and other Nato powers do nothing to stop it. These backroom trade deals ONLY benefit the most elite in Venezuela.
It is sad to think that one of the most oil-rich countries in the world (Venezuela) is now one of the poorest because of Political differences.
So for the record, the part of Venezuela that you are visiting now is the area where Maduro's most loyal. Just look at the vehicles they are driving.

It is so weird … how our news in the US makes Venezuela seem like a long lost soul. Seems pretty normal company to me almost USA like in a number of ways. Just goes to show you the news people are weird and don’t tell the whole story. Cheers and best wishes to all the everyday Venezuelans making their way like us everyday people in the US doing the same.

This is definitely propaganda. I work at a grocery store in the US and I have never seen a store "faced" so perfectly. Watch the shelves, notice how everything is perfectly flush with the shelves, very few things missing or out of place. Not a real store, probably all actors. If people were really shopping like it appears they are the shelves would look different 100%.

The problem with today's world is that the more you stay humble and sincere, the poorer you become. My heart goes out to the common person of Venezuela and to everyone like myself, a similarly well educated, well informed, well mannered Indian from a similar poor country plagued by inflation. I'd have prayed for us all, armanos and brothers, but I'm agnostic. Anyways, wishing and hoping for a better tomorrow for us all. Keep up the slog, compadres.

One thing ive noticed in PR is that Wal-mart, Home Depot, and Auto zone are more expensive than Wal-mart , HD , and Autozone in the states and honestly they don't have near the selection as the states nor or the products of the same quality so I go to National Hardware ,local grocery stores.and local car parts stores. Also, for beer ,almost everything is in 10oz. cans few 12oz. like in the states yet they charge the same.Sams club does have decent stuff there but I had to train myself to not go to the major stores of the states.Actually, Id rather patronize smaller name stores from PR.We have 4 or 5 main beers such as Heineken,Corona,Silver Key,and the main player Medalla beer (which is really good!).Variety is far smaller than the states but it doesn't really bother me.
