I'm with you. People keep saying Mint is a beginner distro, and I agree, but that doesn't mean it is not a power user distro. I'm a power user (an IT professional) and have been uniquely on Mint since 2016. Some people have that BS mentality that if you are a power user you should use Gentoo or Arch, or whatever other BS that you spend more time fixing it or making it work than actually doing work on it. I like things that work, and Mint is it, great for me and for beginners. Moreover, it works great right "out-of-the-box", if my PC craps the bed, it means I just need to grab another one, install Mint and then I'm back in business again in less than 1 hour.
Thank you Micheal for our birthday wishes!! And you didn't only play a role in Antergos but a very pivotable role during the early forming days of EndeavourOS. Without that important feedback, we wouldn't have had the dream start we had five years ago!!!
Quick note: for those who saw the first upload, there was a render error I found last second so I had to reupload the episode, if you commented on it before sorry I didn’t see the comment. Please repost your comment 👍
6 months? That's kinda insane of a wait time to get your hardware supported out of the box. I really wish LTS distro would ship the latest kernel, or at least scan for your hardware, and pick the best kernel suited for that hardware. As I know many people who have had issues with linux due to hardware support on the recommended LTS distro's being poor. Like sure, its better than nothing, but still. Not the best.
Testing for regressions take time, especially if hardware vendors don't work with distro vendors to test before the hardware gets released (like they do with windows)
I use Mint, LMDE6 as well as the main flavour. I don't game on the different machines, so for me it just works. Been using it for years. Looking forward to Wilma. 👍
even if you wanted to game there's liquorix for the latest kernel and a PPA for the latest mesa drivers, so you could get a pretty decent gaming experience fairly effortlessly
I just recently switched off windows 10 to Endeavour as my daily driver, and just in time for things to get so much better too. With the new 555.58 nvidia drivers making wayland a real thing that I can actually use and KDE Plasma having many of my favorite keybinds from windows it's been a smooth transition. I've used several distros in various capacities but never a rolling release and I'm loving being in the arch ecosystem. Great distro. Huge fan.
I recently became an Arch Nazi for gaming, but I still dual boot with my precious, Linux Mint. I'm so happy you're still doing the show. Been watching you since the beginning!
I do miss Apricity. It was one of the most beautiful distros! Apricity was based on Arch. I do love Endeavour's looks, though. I wonder if it's faster than Ubuntu.
I've been using Linux Mint for years. I keep trying other things but keep returning. It just works for me and I don't have to spend hours searching for solutions when something isn't working. The solution is usually easily found compared to other operating systems. I'm an advanced user but that doesn't mean I want to spend time fixing my daily driver.
Sometimes you just want something that works without screwing around and that's why I've always come back to Mint. But I don't care about new hardware compatibility because the average age of our PCs is about 8 years (the ones we actually use).
I still run a small Centos 7 dedicated server hosting half a dozen websites etc and have just started the process of updating but I'm taking the oportunity to do a complete wipe and reinstall. I am shifting current hosted domains to my Alma dedicated server. I'm tossing up whether to go Alma or RHEL. Going by the current licences I could run the 4 servers I have on RHEL for minimal expense. Having all the same would be ideal. I still have 2 months update support left for Centos. I've also recently switched all systems and workstations etc that I maintain away from Ubuntu (Debian) based systems and primarily want to keep all on RPM based or RHEL based distros for longevity and support. Primary reason was hardware support, especially on laptops, and easier to maintain,
It's not surprising that there's plenty of CentOS 7 machines online, probably not an insignificant of CentOS 6 still exists. Infra maintenance in most companies is a joke.
The interface is different and they have a few custom apps but you can also run those apps on Ubuntu so if you like your current setup with Ubuntu there’s no real benefit to switching
i been using linux mint for the past 2 months.my friend gave me an used lonovo laptop wunning win 11 did virouis scan OMGH. grabed is image from another pc of mint and install. Its ok i only used the command line for update. crome mozillia and libre all work also obs and retro arch and gnome boxes. the laptop thinkpad soo fast compared to win 11.
Is better fractional scaling coming to Wayland? I hope so... Falkon text rendering is really bad at 125%. I started out with nothing against Wayland, but it seems like it's trying to make itself unlikable
Fractional scaling depends on the desktop environment, the scaling in GNOME is pretty weak but scaling in KDE Plasma is actually quite solid. I assume Falkon is more likely an issue with the browser itself though
I love Linux Mint, it has made using Linux as a layman so much easier
Linux Mint is my main OS since 2011. I like it for stability. And in Cinnamon DE I feel like home after Windows XP.

Did you upgrade hardware or buy new computers during this period?
Gnome >> cinnamon

no problem, you are doing an amazing job to the community anyway by dropping in FOSS News in your channel.
This one should be better, is it not Lu?
I like your Linux news more because you are explaining some words that I don't know in Linux
Woah, I just found out that you're on Antergos team, one of the best arch distro I ever had
Oh, so he has to move on Fedora to have more stable system with better rendering))

I am using the 22 Beta of Linux Mint and it runs without any flaw for me. Normally I skip Betas, but this is a keeper!
It is interesting to know about projects you've taken part in. Great episode.
17:05, WOW, nice!! I still have this Antergos iso from '17 :D

Peace be upon CentOS.CentOS was my first experience with Linux. It taught me the importance of capitalization in commands.
Like that smash button and support our shirts by buying our channel. :D
rocking that 12 fps for the extra cinematic experience

Thank you very much for the kind words about the show. I do cover Arch but not often since they release so much it just becomes noise lol
I haven't used Mint for a while, but I really like Mate, it's simple, fast, gets the job done and is very complete.

Antergos! ❤ Hadn’t heard that name in a while!
Just another fact to confirm the words of wisdom "no matter what happen, dont invest your time in red hat or its tree"
This is the same thing as before. It’s not another thing, this is part of the original thing that annoyed people

Is there any chance I can support the shirt and buy the show?

RHEL does allow up to 16 instances for free with a developer account license so that might help you

Pipewire
I don't know when the switch happened.
Is there something wrong with the image here, or is it my eyes?

@@michael_tunnell The video seems to be lagging in the scenes where you appear.
The framerate started having issues a few episodes ago. I’m not sure why. I thought I had fixed it this week but I guess there’s still something wrong

@@michael_tunnell Thank you! I'm using Fedora 40 with Plasma 6, and most apps work, but some like Falkon have worse text clarity issues.
I think the best thing to do for that is to report that to the Falkon team because it sounds like it’s localized to that app in this case
I use Arch, BTW. 😄
indeed
I have no evidence to support this claim: I feel like Ubuntu saw what Red Hat did with their license and is going to try to do the same.
I’m curious, why do you have this feeling?
Manjaro > zorin > mint 22 beta. This is my ranking after testing over 10 distro
I tried about 50 things) with Manjaro there were very few problems than with the others
might as well try endeous on my rpi5 for lulz.
