I think that is a cool concept and really not too bad in price especially since you could use the $5 off the next box coupon if you got them one at a time. I remember them doing something simlar back in the late 90s. I had a pear drawing kit. It was printed on black paper and had a step by step booklet and came with the pencils you needed. I think the project was designed by Janie Gildow who was a prominent instructor at the time. It was pretty cool.
Pro Tip: What I learned in high school art class, ages ago, is: When you are using a photo reference and grid technique, TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN. Draw your art with what is there, not what you think *should* be there. You'll be surprised to find out just how much your brain warps your ability to draw what you see based on what you (instinctively) need to recognize. It's like the map of Siam in "The King and I", what you focus on is what you are inclined to draw BIG and then you try to squish in the other details. If you turn it all upside down, your brain has a harder time seeing what *should* be there and instead sees what *is* there. Give this technique a try, especially if you decide to apply it to a face (animal or human). It's worth the exercise to discover for yourself what you see.
I love the idea of these boxes and you presented it so well! It’s a shame about the paper (it’s so so important!) and I wish they had a portrait set too.
Jennifer, you did a magnificent job on this review. Although I have the 150 set of Prisma pencils, I have no desire whatsoever to get any of the sets you reviewed! But you really did a wonderful job on explaining everything about them and I was so fascinated by your review I stuck around and watched the whole thing from start to finish. You mesmerized me. You did a wonderful job and I just wanted you to know that. And even though I have no desire to purchase any of the kits , I still found your review so interesting I watched every minute!!! Thank you for a very interesting evening watching you review something I have no interest in all. LOL Your explanation about the proper paper was extremely important, especially for those who do not realize how much just the paper can impact one's art. I'm so glad you took the time to really explain that. Over all - a job really well done and I thank you very much for all the wonderful things you do for us all. Blessings and Love to You, Steve, and Your Family -
I hope PRISMACOLOR folks are watching this video !! Great information… and YES paper quality is SOOOO important. I totally appreciate your review of this series. I was going to get this kit for a grandchild, but now will provide my kiddos with materials independently.
Bought one of these at Walmart this morning - Level 2 Nature. I have yet to try everything in the kit but I tested one of the brush markers on a scrap of Strathmore 400 series watercolor paper. It blends very nicely! The two brushes are a nice addition as well. In case anyone is wondering, the drawing pad is 6 x 8.5 in size. And the included $5 off coupon expires on June 30, 2023 😄 I'll be looking into the Level 3 Nature set next!
What a thorough presentation!! While I have Prismacolors pencils in abundance, you stirred my interest on the watercoler markers and the alcohol markers by Prismacolor. You are so right about the paper!! And the last landscape was charming!! (I have a secret aversion to gridding)🤣 Thanks so much!
Very interesting. Was great to see what was in all 6 boxes as well as your thorough review from a person who is so familiar with the subject matter. Thank you for the video.
Thank you Ms. Jennifer! Amazon has the Nature Level 2 set on sale half price so I ordered it. So glad I watched your video first so I know to switch out the paper! ❤️
I totally enjoyed watching you step your way through these boxes. I didn't even know Prismacolor stepped into this category. Your explanations were through, reasonable, and so helpful! Thanks a lot
Hi Jennifer. Thank you for doing this video. I was wondering how these boxes worked and if I needed to buy all 3 in each set. I am looking forward to getting the nature set. Hmm maybe for my birthday in a couple of weeks?? 😊
Thank you for doing this video and your honest assessment of the different kits and the two different series. I have the full set of 150 Prismacolor pencils, so I didn't have any interest in the kits; however, I did want to see you open the kits and get your review on them.
Ooohh!!! I love these! I 🖤 my Prismacolors and feel one can not have too many 😀. I like the idea of trying different products in their line and getting instruction on how they recommend using them. I am looking forward to adding these to my supplies. Thank you 😊
Thanks for the information. You know I think Prismacolor had something like this before, just before the colouring craze started. It was mostly an image and included colour pencils. I believe they put out two kits but pretty soon everyone was buying colouring books and all types of colouring tools.
Thank you so much for this review! It was especially great to hear what frustrated you as far as the paper selection and the video instructions. One thing I always appreciate about your instruction is how complete and thorough you are! (You wouldn’t have been drawing in a pencil we couldn’t see and you definitely would’ve explained the various liners and pencils!)
Appreciate the review on these sets. I'm just getting started as a self learner and I do plan to get the right paper. I also plan to do a side by side of the same photo on both the provided paper and the right paoer. I think it will help me grasp the concept of the appropriate tools to put together for various projects. This way, in the long run, it's easier for me to know what I'll need versus what I want to happen. Thanks for this 🖤🧡
Hi Jennifer what an amazing informative video, thank you so much for taking the time to do such a thorough and unbiased review. I cant get enough of your calm, cheerful videos (with hubby putting in his two cents worth, lol, in the background every now and then) I feel as if I'm at a friend's place colouring along. At 73 I am learning a new medium with the coloured pencils and loving it. (prompted in part by our almost 2 year Covid lockdown in Melbourne) Thankyou for your kind happy manner and providing such easy to follow tutorials for beginners like this 'old girl' God Bless xo Elise Mitton, Melbourne, Australia
I have been a viewer for over two years and this is the best video that you have yet it is awesome thank you so much you and your husband save us so much time money and energy just by reviewing these things I value your honest opinion thank you so much
Wow! Thanks for sharing because I had seen them at my Walmart and was going to buy them, but was not in my budget. I don’t regret buying them at all! I loved the nature one, but my photographs with my camera are way better than anything I can draw 😅😊
Hi Jennifer Great review video loved it. I love my prismacolor pencils and these sets are an ideal way to have a play with different products. I have a few of their watercolour pencils and hate them. The pigment doesn't dissolve properly. Albrecht Durer have definitely provided the best pigment dissolving watercolour pencils. (in my opinion that is). Again thanks for all your hard work and I really appreciate it. Cheers 😊
I am glad you die this for all your viewers. Also, I am glad I didn't go ahead and buy these. I have signed up for an online site which has great lessons, but doesn't mention paper types and the only way to get all the pencils for the lessons is to buy a full set of Prismacolor. There are many instructors, each with their unique style of instruction. By the way, I love your videos. Have watched many, and some from others that you have mentioned. As expected, each has a unique style. I am glad there are many who are able to do videos, as I have learned much from several.
These technique boxes look like a great idea, especially for someone who wants to see how they might like color pencils. I don't think I would really need them. But for those just starting out, going through the instructions in a more methodical way might really be helpful. I think it's great that you will go through each one of these boxes to show people how they can do it.
I am glad i watched this before I went out and purchased them. I pucked up the portrait one on clearance at a big box store....it made it more difficult than it needed to be(the instruction videos)
I would like to see your animals track. I appreciate your thorough look at them. I would have run into same issues you did. I may pick up one to play with
Thanks for your critique of these boxes. My grandson (16 yr old) loves the Prismacolor pencils, and I thought I would get him one of these for his birthday. Your video was very helpful. I think I will get him the Nature, level 1, and some correct paper, as you suggested. Tfs!
Thank you for doing this for us. living in Canada some of the lesson 3s are 50 dollars or so. I think the level 1's would be good to have when traveling. You would have all the colors you need . you could do it on their paper and then use your own paper at home.
I love your videos! They do seem like a really good value for all that comes in them and like you said a great way to try a variety of tools. Thank you 😊
Loved your review of the boxes and your final assessment of the kits! I figured the paper would be basically useless for these sets, but was curious about whether the pencil rolls would accommodate each entire line of the sets? I’m kind of thinking the markers in both sets won’t fit. It’s nice that they added it, but maybe it would have been better if they had designed a combination roll/pouch to cover all the supplies provided. Anyway, now I’m going to go take five of the sets out of my cart so I can start gathering the coupons! Lol
The pencil rolls are not big enough for all the pencils and markers included in the 3 boxes. I plan on using them to organize pencils into curated sets for specific projects I’m working on.
I expect to see duplicates from nature to animal boxes but it seems a bit lazy finding duplicates in the same series of boxes! I am disappointed that the pencil rolls are insufficient for all of the pencils if you buy all the sets in the series. I am glad that you are excited for the boxes and I will be looking to see if you can create the art mentioned on the boxes! I am curious about how well you are able to follow along and create even more artworks after you complete the lessons! Watercolor pencils are very difficult to get the hang of and working with the wrong surfaces is inexcusable! You are so correct! Maybe they mixed up the papers in the boxes? Thank you for sharing this with us!
Wasn't it the same paper in all the boxes? Of course, that wouldn't make it the RIGHT paper for all the boxes, but I was thinking it was all the same paper.
Good video. All art kits seem to have cheaper paper or supplies. Most reason is that they just want to make money. Sad but true. You go thru everything and don’t miss a beat. I like that about you.
The wrong paper???😱🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ So glad you reviewed these kits. So many people will get these kits and be discouraged. Now at least anyone who sees your video will have a much better experience. Really silly on the part of Prismacolor, they could be making lifelong customers if they had just not cut corners.
Best pencil sharpener I've ever used. I have several of them. My Prismas are EXTREMELY sharp and never had any break on me. I poked myself accidently with a pencil and point was so sharp it brought blood. Now THAT'S SHARP. lol
As soon as you opened that drawing pad, I knew a struggle would ensue. I would love to see how these would turn out for you using the correct paper. ❤❤❤👍Great job conquering the levels and being able to push yourself out of your comfort zone. As always, we're so sorry Rose😍
Wow, that was very informative. I just wish South Africa sold Prisma colors. I would love a set like that!!!! Thanx so much Jennifer for all ur insight. I just love ur personality. Hope u have a wonderful weekend. God bless
I appreciate this video. The concept of the boxes are great, so true that the right paper is a game changer. I already own a huge set of Prismacolor pencils already, I would be interested in getting a box or two for a budding artist in my life, would include the correct paper. BTW, I joined your coloring bliss website and subscribed to your CZcams channel. I do a lot of fine art and crafts, would like to do a bit of adult coloring too. Glad to find your channel.
I just found your channel the other day….. I have several sets of the Prismatic colored pencils plus other brands. I love 💕 to color but will admit I’m still learning……I’m mostly a mixed medium artist but really want to explore coloring. I have a lot of health issues that keep me from doing anything to strenuous. I have to deal with a lot of pain issues that keeps me home bound. My first love 💕 is makeup, I do have a art studio in my home.I’m a mixed medium artist which is my expertise…….Hopefully,I can learn lot from you…Judy D from NY State…..Judy D
Excellent trial w/ exactly the info I hoped for. Thx a million Ms Jennifer! Truly appreciate your candor, & all of the effort U place in these projects. Makes the buying decision easy for me. Perfect! - JMH 🤓🐶
Thank You for this video! I saw these a while ago and just kept going as I have a full set of pencils and quite a few backs ups, so it seemed irrelevant to me. The level 3 grid confuses me, unless you have a light table/box they seem useless., but if you have one BIG BONUS (lol I have one) Love that there is a variety of tools, not just pencils and paper and half hazard instructions. I agree, YES, the tone of an instructor is SO KEY... cannot tell you how many I have muted, or not even watched because of it. LOL
Thank you for your video! I’m a novice trying to teach myself and I’ve been looking at these sets in Walmart for a while. I’m now excited to invest in them, thank your for the heads up on the paper I would not have realized if you didn’t mention it. I would also love to see you do the other set.
Hi thanks to this video Target online has a box of 3 lessons, 38 prismacolor pencils, paper, eraser and one graphite pencil for $20. I was sad they did not included the pencil roll. Thank You.
My mom saw this at our local walmart she wanted ti know if i was interested in getting it for xmas i was unsure im glad you hadvreview on your channel so i could understand the inside of box supplies...mikelle art mom🎨✍👩🎨
The paper is important I agree the grids are great but look at a video on how to use them I do watercolour painting it’s a good technique xx I did an exam in the watercolour medium xx you can do a lot with it wax wax resist add salt and the medium. Let it dry and you get shiny bits when it drys and if your doing water it sparkles xx don’t give up I loved 🥰 your watercolour paintings you did xx you did well when you got the right paper I think it would put people of art all together xx the boxes I feel are for you to get more art supplies xx 😘 keep going xx love your Chanel xx 😘
@Coloring Bliss - Jen! Great video! You did an amazing job and I appreciated it so much. Without your video, I may have gone out and purchased a couple of these and then been disappointed when I got to them a year or two down the road. LOL :)
A follow up video would be nice. Especially if you swapped out the papers for your preferred ones to see how much that makes the lessons better/more enjoyable.
Jennifer I love your videos! You and Steve are so amazing! Most definitely, please, show your video of successes and failures. It's nice for me to compare what you deal with and see if I'm having the same issues. I think I'm going to try one of these and check it out. Thanks again! P.S. I purchased great paper from your studio, so I definitely know the importance of the correct paper. Steve definitely taught us that. I love your paper.
I think that is a cool concept and really not too bad in price especially since you could use the $5 off the next box coupon if you got them one at a time. I think the project was designed by Janie Gildow who was a prominent instructor at the time. It was pretty cool.
Thanks for sharing about past boxes and I agree…with those coupons, the value is awesome!
I’m looking forward to using the 3 coupons from the 3 random boxes my Walmart has to get the other 3

Good advice. I remember my sister did an art project completely upside down for that very reason.
GREAT ADVICE, thanks.
We always did this as well.
Thx amazing advise, sound logical 👍
Very good tip for people learning to draw. Thank you!
I love the idea of these boxes and you presented it so well! It’s a shame about the paper (it’s so so important!) and I wish they had a portrait set too.
They have a level one portrait kit now.

Wow, who knew we would need instructions to use an instruction set, lol. Thanks Jennifer and Steve!
😂😂 I love this comment
Bought one of these at Walmart this morning - Level 2 Nature.

I think your nature 3 picture is really cool. It’s not just a copy, it has personality! Love it!
I could see getting this for my teenage friend who is an aspiring artist as a fun gift, but giving her also some appropriate paper, too.
Sounds like a fun plan!
Great review, for the person who wants to try a smattering of prisma products without buying full sets it's not bad for the investment. Thanks!
What a thorough presentation!! While I have Prismacolors pencils in abundance, you stirred my interest on the watercoler markers and the alcohol markers by Prismacolor. You are so right about the paper!! And the last landscape was charming!! (I have a secret aversion to gridding)🤣
Thanks so much!
Very interesting. Was great to see what was in all 6 boxes as well as your thorough review from a person who is so familiar with the subject matter. Thank you for the video.
Loved your review. You’re so talented and a breath of fresh air. Such a sweet voice and cute laugh. And I love Rose❤️
I would love to see you follow the animal boxes, and use your own preferred paper ! Thanks for the honest reviews and always great advice
Thank you Ms. Jennifer! Amazon has the Nature Level 2 set on sale half price so I ordered it. So glad I watched your video first so I know to switch out the paper! ❤️
I am so sorry I missed the live premier! I fell asleep. Long day. hahaha. Anyway, this was AMAZING!! Loved your in depth review of the kits
Very fun starter sets and gifts!
Prismacolor needs to hire your input!!! You’re a very good trainer
Listening to you is such a comfort. Im ill at the moment and listening to you helped me feel better. So thank you
I would love to see your finished pictures from the other sets. Great review!
Thank you Jennifer very informative really enjoyed wouldn’t mind seeing you do the other boxes please
(Same) not the bday part though, Happy early Birthday to you!
I’m glad I could help…happy birthday!
With some colored pencil and watercolor paper. Happy early birthday!!
Awesome information! I’d love to see all the others done, especially on better paper.
Love the Prismacolor Technique Boxes 💕
Thank you for doing this video and your honest assessment of the different kits and the two different series. I have the full set of 150 Prismacolor pencils, so I didn't have any interest in the kits; however, I did want to see you open the kits and get your review on them.
These are so fun collection! I want them all!😍😄😍
Gotta go! Running, not walking to Walmart right now! Thanks so much for the video!!
Just LOVE you channel. Saw these at Walmart wondered if it was worth it. Thank you Ms Jennifer 🌈❤️
Great critique....right on about the paper. loved it!!
Ooohh!!! I love these! I 🖤 my Prismacolors and feel one can not have too many 😀. I like the idea of trying different products in their line and getting instruction on how they recommend using them. I am looking forward to adding these to my supplies. Thank you 😊
This was an excellent video. Thanks for all the negatives and positives. I learned a lot from your tricks.
Love the honest assessment of these products.
Really appreciate your honest reviews.
Thanks so much! Really helpful. Yes please do the dog ones!!!
What fun!!!!!! Thanks so much!!!

I’m so glad to hear your feelings on my teaching. After being so frustrated with these lessons, it made me wonder how well we are doing.
Really good video! Learned lots and now have an idea of what to tell my sister and or hubby to get me for my birthday! Thank you
I lovè yr landscape!!
Appreciate the review on these sets. I'm just getting started as a self learner and I do plan to get the right paper.

Ohh I had this on REMINDER To watch
.My phone went down..uggh.. but I'm all on Watching now!! How cool!! Thanks sooo much!!! I'M TOTALLY EXCITED!!
Ohh WOW!! You have done an Awesome review!! Thank YOU!!
Nice job. Very inspiring.

I got the level one box for nature a couple of months ago and the fine liners were 01 and 005. Interesting that it’s not the same liners in every box.
That is interesting. Maybe that’s why they weren’t extra specific in the video about the products provided in each box.
Thanks for showing these boxes. I've used the graphite pencils, but little else. These sets are beautiful.
Very informative❤ ty so much!
Thank you so much!
I would like to see the result of you going through the animal lessons. I’m interested to see how the fur comes out looking.

Perfect! - JMH 🤓🐶
Thanks for your honest review. Very helpful! I didn’t know that Prismacolor made water based brush pens! Excited to see what’s available in that line!
Are they Scholar brush pens?
Wow thank you for posting. Love all the work you and Steve put into these
I got the Prisma watercolor pencils in an art box before the holidays. I think they are by far the best and I own several top brands.
I’m glad you like them so much. Have fun creating
LOL
Thank you for going honestly thru all of these boxes! 💗
Thank you for a great video and your personal tips and recommendations! You are the best!!
EXCELLENT REVIEW JENNIFER!!!! FANTASTIC JOB
Thank You.
I just love your reviews!
I love these boxes, the price is perfect. Not bad at all. Great stuff. Thanks for showing us this. 🇺🇸
Excellent video!
Thanks for letting me know what would be interesting to you. 😊
