How to see sumo in Japan

Sumo was high on our list for Japan. We traveled to Fukuoka at the end of our trip specifically to see the sumo tournament and this was 100% worth the effort.
One thing that’s nice about sumo is that the rules for winning a match are very straightforward {whoever steps out of the circle or puts a knee/hand down loses} so we could follow it even if we didn’t understand everything.
Splurging for the close tickets was well worth it, too!
