  • It’s always been my dream to go to a sumo wrestling match so this was literally a dream come true. I didn’t expect there to be so many matches and it to last so long and to sit so far away. But after sneaking into the first floor, I was able to get a really good view… Before I got kicked out. I definitely wanna go back. I do appreciate that I had an English Tour Guide but I think I would go self guided next time. And I’m not gonna forget to book a Chanko Nabe restaurant way in advance.

There are 6 divisions in Sumo,1 Makuuchi · 2 Jūryō · 3 Makushita · 4 Sandanme · 5 Jonidan · 6 Jonokuchi, rikishi, aka wrestlers, in the first 3 divisions have 1 match per day, unless there's a playoff on the last day, for 15 days which is the length of a basho, aka tournament. The rikishi in the bottom 3 divisions only have 7 matches.

The ceremony you see at the beginning is called the ring entry ceremony, and the rikishi performing it is the Yokozuna, his name is Terunofuji. It does have a Japanese name, but i cant remember it right now.
