    What do you have for protection on your bike? How do you like it?

      Mirrors and blinkers. They worked well. Once.

      Ha! One of my mirrors has also served valiantly as crash protection. I'm hoping to upgrade them this weekend.

    I like my altrider crash bars. Tip overs in the trail did their job. Agree the support is in the way of foot placement like you said. Feel they are good and soon keep the support bar for strength.
    I dented by altrider skid plate enough to dent my oil filter. Really thinking on bagging the lower altrider protection and go with a B&B Dakar bash plate.

    Thanks for the info. I’m in the process of shopping for bars, and this has me thinking I don’t need to spend the extra money on that connector bar.

    Aside from being a pain for maintenance (makes taking the front plastic off for everything more irritating). The Heed bars seem to be a much better design than the 2 and three piece designs from the higher end companies.

      Interesting. I hadn't seen the Heed bars before! Taking the plastics off already isn't fun so invite some friends and make it a maintenance party.

      Can you tell me more? I'm having a hard time justifying the $1300 bar and skid plate kit from AltRider. Thinking about going Heed bars, and AltRider skid plate. Maintenance was the advantage I could think of with the AltRider.

    Thanks for the vid. Have these bars in my wish list. I'm an old cruiser rider and came across the Af Twin in search for a bike that was more versatile, good for all day saddle time in different environments, urban and rural. Since I'm not considering "serious" off-roading, and being an old cruiser rider, I want to put some forward pegs on the bars to add a greater touring aspect to the bike. The video angle of you sitting on the bike really helped me get a good perspective for peg placement. Thanks for that. The connection bar is "eh", and I agree with the point that it looks like it could get caught up on something if the bike were dumped and sliding (rock, tree root) I think for the riding I anticipate on doing, the upper and lowers alone would be adequate. Again, thanks for the vid. Be safe.

      Thanks for the comment Brett. I'm glad you found the video useful for planning your modifications. I never did end up riding with the connection bars. I can tell you that just the uppers and lowers are plenty strong alone; I have trail tested them loaded with camping gear more than I'd like to admit. My first touring ride on the AT, I had put forward pegs on. I did about 2000 miles through the Sierras camping most of the time. They worked out great. It was amazing to be able to stretch out. I put some pics up on our Facebook page with them mounted. Have a look here: facebook.com/pg/WeekenderADV/photos/?tab=album&album_id=568183593710789

      @@weekenderadv4565 Looked at your pics. It's sort of hard to tell from the angles, but it looks like you used off-sets to mount the pegs a little below the engine guards. Is that a better position than to mount them straight off the bar? Oh, I'm 5' 10", legs are average length, about 32-33" inseam. Thanks

      @@weekenderadv4565Your peg set-up looks good. Can you tell me what combination of pegs and mounts you used. Looks like just the thing to do the trick for me. Thanks

      @@jesuslovesbass3944 I think mounting them straight off would be better than the drop like I had. They can get pretty close to the ground in tight turns. I'm 6' 1" and found the location to be very comfortable for me. Here is the ones I had, but I would try to go straight off the bar next time for a bit more clearance. amzn.to/2FtCaYS

      @@weekenderadv4565Thanks for the reply. I'm just under 5' 11", so straight off the bar will probably work fine for me. Thanks again. Keep safe.

    I have the same bars and dont like the connector either have you done any hard crashes without the connector?

    • @weekenderadv4565
      @weekenderadv4565  Před 4 lety

      I dropped this bike bike so many times. Only one I would call a hard crash. I lost it going up a rocky step and the bike hit the rocks pretty good. No damage. I almost always had panniers on and they took some of the beating.

    I also don't like how close they are to the cases. It might be enough to push into the case. Thanks I'm not buying them.
