YELLOW TOP BAND of Rabaul -Poroman -Stringband

Yellow Top stringband of the 70s:"if you reject my love,then I shall go out and hang myself" This melancholy suicide threat brought instant fame to Samuel Bata when his group won the new song competition in the Tolai Warwagire Festival in the early 1970s and soon their yellow top truck was taking them to play at parties right across the Gazelle Peninsula.This Tolai group was known through its radio performances.Band Members are:Samuel Bata,Eliuda Tunia,Manut Sikel,Pue Papa,Isaac Tuba.Manager:Titus ToLuana.All compositions:Samuel Bata.Recorded in stereo in NBC studio 906 Rabaul,1980.Production unit:Francis Forunduo,Gabriel Patrongena,Bill Nolan.design artwork:Graeme Ross

This classic was included as #15 in the book/cassette Riwain: PNG Pop Songs that Don Niles and I compiled back in 1986. I met ToBata in Rabaul in 1993 and interviewed him - great memories! Many thanks for the upload. ToMikael
