    What makes the Alpecin jeans kit even worse is that it gives me flashbacks to Chiapucci in the Carrera jeans kit from the darkest EPO days. But then at least Carrera was an actual jeans company if I remember correctly.
    Johnny Hoogerland also got in a legal battle with the insurer of the television car that pushed him into the barbed wire in the 2011 Tour. It took three years to get to a settlement.

    I agree that I do not believe that Visma will have leadership issues at the Tour. I am curious if UAE will have team issues within the Tour. I am certain that Pogacar will go in as the leader on paper (and that is what the Team will say), however, I am unsure if all of the other UAE team members who could be leaders will actually fall in line and work in a support role for Pogacar. For Bora, if the team publicly state that the undisputed leader is Roglic, that would be a slight against Hinley and he would have a reason to be upset. In my opinion I believe that the best solution for Bora would be a co-leader approach.

      It really is Aero and his ability to put out peak watts in that position. He seemingly did 6.7w/kg in the TT. Everyone else is putting out less w/kg in a less aerodynamic position. Like peak Ganna probably has to do close to 100w more than Remco to match him. Riders as small as Remco typically can't fold themselves over and still produce the watts they do on a road bike. It's why he's a physiological freak
      His climbing is also insane when he's at his lightest. The problem seems to be his body doesn't naturally want to be that light and Quickstep seem to struggle to balance lightweight and health as his off days are particularly severe

    Remco may need to give up some absolute power and TT performance to ensure his ability to climb for sustained 3-4 days at its best. It’s in the margins but is relevant. This means no quick weight drops 3-4weeks out from le tour eg 63->60kg via an altitude camp but a longer term nutrition plan… otherwise Visma Lease a bike will put kilajoules into him day in day out and come the final week of three weekend 58kg Jonas will take him and Roglic to the cleaners and win handily come NICE. He has to be good for 3-4 big days in a row and if he’s relying on the final TT that is may prove to be an error.

    • @MDP1702
      @MDP1702 Před 3 měsíci

      Remco's optimal weight seems to be around 62kg, he was 63kg when he started last years giro and dominated the ITT's, so even at climbing weight he still should be able to have great TT performances.
      I do agree they should avoid big changes in short time before GT's, like happened with last years WC ITT to the Vuelta. I don't think anyone ever told his weight at the WC ITT, but he did say he had to lose quite some weight in 10 days (though this wasn't the only reason for his break imo).

    Takeaways from Valenciana
    Vos looks great ahead of the classics, with a stronger and/ or sometimes smarter team she could have won three stages here because of see next
    Balsamo climbing quite poorly, dropping early on climbs, based on this race I would not expect anything from her in the real classics, and as for sprinting well hard to say based on this race how she will match up against Wiebes or Kool
    Fisher Balck great on the very steep climb, but dropped on the shallow one the day before. The inconsistency is the main question with her I think, but this was definitely a step up from last year,beating very strong competition on merit, a lot stronger than UAE.
    Realini lost 10 seconds on a simple 3 km descent vs the other lightweight FB ( and a lot more on the descending stage 2). I do think this is not her best climbing level yet
    Niewiadoma could or maybe should have had the GC win here. Her and Paladin were the only couple in the group that let Reusser take 30 seconds on stage 2. But they were more worried about Vos winning the stage than about limiting the damage versus one of the main GC contenders. In general I think they get away with a lot of bad tactics, whereas SD is criticized heavily for the couple of races were they maybe got things wrong. They have two of the best riders in the world in their team in Kasia and Dygert (who is obviously not doing a lot of road races but last year she could have der won more), plus a lot of other strong riders and good youngsters. Without that Reusser gift Kasia would have won GC.

    • @thewoolyknitter
      @thewoolyknitter Před 3 měsíci

      Realini climbed fine (probably best there), she just entered the climb in bad position, about 20m behind the front and had to catch up herself. All the other favourites were already at the front looks like. Agree she just seemed to lose on the descent, can't tell much since the stream dies then.

    • @rulifaller8474
      @rulifaller8474 Před 3 měsíci

      @@thewoolyknitter I do not see how you can say that Realini climbed better than FB. She might have been a bit behind at the bottom, but it was a long steep climb and she was about ten meters behind FB for about the last 2 KMS. At the same level, OK, better, no. The descent lasted only 3 KMS and she was in the wheel at the top of it and 10 seconds behind at the finish, I don’t think we need the images to draw the conclusion. In general you do not really need the images anymore to conclude that the descending (and the flat} are a huge problem for Realini. She has got some great results because she is a great climber, but also because opponents did not see her as a big threat for GC and therefore did not attack her in descents and the flat.

      He will get points. But for a 1 day race i guess like he actually raced.
      If you race 1 day, you race 1 day regardless of what it supposed to be.

      @@adrianbuck8772 Your last sentence doesn't make sense, as everyone knew beforehand that they'd participate in a 2.Pro race. The name doesn't matter whatsoever.
      Van Gils should get the points as determined before the race. Otherwise, the UCI would open Pandora's box. It would be even worse in this particular case, as they knew before the start of the TT that the final two stages were also to be cancelled, and had communicated this to the teams and the press. This is not even decisive, since changing the rules after the race is unforgivable in itself. However, it does aggravate the situation even more if they wouldn't award Van Gils the 200 + 20 points for the day's and final classification victory. What if race favourite (+ riding for a big team) Ayuso had won the TT? Would they also post-race change the rules, with the benefit of hindsight and all that, and award him less points? People would start asking questions. Lotto-Dstny would definitely start asking questions. They'd maybe even file a lawsuit, and rightly so.

      The promised amount was clearly not delivered. If you are promised 5 cakes and get 1 cake (even if the reason why its only 1 is totally out of the Bakers control) your paying for 1 cake (i assume).
      If you want to open the Pandora box by giving more points out than the performance warranted other Organisators could just add random stages to their 1 day race to have more points just to have an "emergency" and go back to their Original 1 day race but with higher point payout (in theory).

    • @maartenh3313

      @@adrianbuck8772 Again, that doesn't matter. If you change the rules after the race, you're on a slippery slope. This time it's for a lack of balance between amount of UCI points and ... effort, or distance and time on the bike, or something like that. What will it be next time? Btw, how much of the race is a good amount? The Tour of Britain that got partly cancelled, not even before the race, but unexpectedly after stage five (major difference there!): that was sufficient, apparently? Where do you draw the line? Keeping the rules in that case did benefit Movistar, at that time one of Lotto Dstny's main rivals in the fight against relegation from the WT.
      And again, we shouldn't draw any lines here. We should leave the rules as they were, unless all teams were informed about the change of rules beforehand, that is, before the start of the TT. Why do you ignore this point? The things you say are completely pointless and negligible compared to that.
      I won't even go into your final paragraph. That is just weird. Is it even an argument? Do you really think that would be a plausible risk?

    Can't we have riders names on their back? Even having the same race number throughout the season. Having names on jersey would be good for their merchandise as well. Pretty much all other team sports do it, so why does cycling take so long for get out of the dark ages.

    I will not stand for the tug buddy erasure. Leknessund and his tug buddies put in a valiant effort on Stage 2 of Algarve

    1:24:48 Benji "in some shape or form" Naesen, try "somehow","in some manner", "in some odd circumstance". Other 2 expressions you use a lot are "mate" (dude, bro, Patrick) and "i reckon" (think, suppose, figure). I reckon you have to fix it, mate, in some shape or form :D

    Evenepoel is not even the best Belgian climber. Cian already dominates him tbh

      Where did Cian dominate Remco?

      I would not agree but Vuelta he was better

      Definitely not yet. Maybe more consistent (partially due to circumstances), but Remco definitely is still the better climber. Now compared at same age, yes Cian is better and maybe he'll become better than Remco if his progress doesn't plateau too soon, that is still to be seen.
      Like what climbs has Cian dominated/won on?
