This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Terminator 2: Judgment Day, released in 1991 and directed by James Cameron. Phew, he certainly brought the punch to this series with this film! Loved all the special effects, loved the story, loved the performances! Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton shined once again in their roles and the new characters and actors were a treat as well. The action was intense and the rewatchability is strong. Fun fact: In 2003, the American Film Institute named the Terminator as both one of the Top 100 Movie Villains (1984), and one of the Top 100 Movie Heroes (1991).
Miles Dyson is low key like one of the most underrated unsung heroic characters in any movie. First time I saw this I thought he would end up being the "Burke" of this movie. But talk about bad things happening to good people. He takes the news of it all like a man and carries the whole thing to its conclusion. That he believes them and helps them so selflessly is sad. He deserved better but did all the right things when the time came. And it was just sprung on him that freakin night. Talk about manning up..
His death scene has always stuck in my head too, it just felt absolutely authentic. And even in that moment, he's trying to minimize loss
Every other "mad scientist" insists he can fix his creation no matter the evidence that he cannot. But Myles doesn't hesitate to destroy his life's work when called upon.
Robert Patrick auditioned for the T-1000 role by sitting in front of the camera and just staring menacingly for 5 minutes. He was a track star in HS and kept outrunning John's BMX bike, so he had to slow down. He also trained himself to sprint while breathing through his nose, and firing/reloading pistols without blinking or looking, because he reasoned that's what a killer robot would do. One of my favorite actors, love his work :D
As to bullets not doing anything to the T-1000... the kinetic energy of the rounds do slow him down (you can't beat basic physics), and continually having to reform damage does take a toll on his systems. You can see the effect of being frozen and shattered and having to reform as he starts to glitch and 'absorb' the look of things he touches like the floor and the handrail in the foundry.
The scene where the helicopter flew under the overpass was 100% real, James Cameron hired a Vietnam Vet, an Air cavalry pilot, to do the stunt, which only gave the chopper like 5 feet of clearance above and below. The crew refused to film it because it was so dangerous, so Cameron grabbed a camera and filmed it himself, and they did it TWICE (to get it from the opposite angle).
Joe Morton (Miles Dyson) was in a bad car accident previously and had a punctured lung, so he knows exactly what someone shot in the chest would sound like: short shallow breaths to minimize the agony.
Cameron also used twins for the doubled shots in the film, the security guard getting coffee at the psych hospital, and for Sarah herself. Linda Hamilton's twin sister Leslie played the T-1000 copy of Sarah for this.
I also loved the subtle change to the Terminator theme when it switches to Sarah about to kill Dyson. She's become the thing she fears, which is what she realizes at the last second.
I don't know if it's ever specified, but based on the actions in the movie, I think the T-1000's primary directive is to repair itself. While it can continue to persue its goal while damaged a little, a significant amount of its concentration will be diverted towards that repair process, meaning that more damage makes it less functional.
@StarkRG There used to be a website called Eterminator and it said that if the T1000 lost a third of its mass it became non functional. It was also made of billions of Nanobots and those on the outside handled appearance with those on the inside handling shape and movements. Each Nanobot contributed to processing and acted as a collective CPU.

Good thing there was only one prototype. I think Skynet knew by making multiple T-1000's it would possibly go rogue or even worse turn against Skynet without protocol. And basically become the new Skynet and ofcourse Skynet wouldn't like that very much. All though in T2-3D Battle Across Time in Skynet's core it did have the T-1,000,000 to protect it but again it was just one and Skynet had that one under control at all times.
Isn't it great how Cameron turned it around, not letting on that Arnold was reprogrammed? You actually figured it out, then backed off, then realized you were right. I enjoyed that part of the reaction.
That's the biggest shockers in a film franchise in my opinion
The lick-face scene: You are the first reactor I've seen to mention the terrific acting by both parties. I know I would not be able to do that at all.
Every reactor has literally had the same reaction, though. And rightfully so as it's really disgusting
Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Sigourney Weaver as Helen Ripley are amazing actresses and characters. This movie is never boring even 30 years after.
Widely considered one of the greatest sequels of all time, this movie still holds up very well to this day. Such a great movie.
Whenever a reactor watches The Terminator, I (along with many others, I'm sure) start holding my breath: has someone, or will someone, blown the central twist that Arnold is the good guy this time? Even some of the advertising blew it back in 1991. Always fun when someone gets to watch the movie without it being spoiled. I was also pleased that you were among the few who recognized Earl Boen as Dr. Silberman, returning from the original movie.
On the other hand, someone you almost certainly wouldn't recognize from both movies is the guy snapping the photos of the T-101 at the mall. William Wisher also played a cop that gets conked out and has his car stolen early on in the first Terminator. The reason he's got a bit part in both movies is because he's a friend and colleague of James Cameron, who helped contribute a bit to the script of the original, and contributed so much to this one he actually got a screenwriting credit alongside Cameron.
One of the songs from the soundtrack of T2 is by Guns 'N' Roses. Cameron incorporated a little nod to them in the movie, when the Terminator arrives at the mall with a shotgun stashed inside a box of roses.
If you look closely, the main SWAT guy, who comes across Miles Dyson right before he dies, he might look familiar: Dean Norris would later become very famous playing DEA Agent Hank Schrader on "Breaking Bad."
As far as depth, I think there's a couple of reasons for that. It's not just that special effects improved, it's that Cameron became one of the hottest directors in Hollywood for directing Aliens. After the first Terminator was -- as is almost always the case with the most important pop culture landmark movies in film history -- rejected by every studio in town, he went from an incredibly tiny budget to one of the biggest ones around. I love The Terminator as it is, but it's easy to wonder if there was more of a richness akin to this movie in Cameron's original vision, before he made the movie he made based on the resources that he had.
Arnold's pretty funny in this movie, and he did a few comedies as well, mainly with director Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters). If you enjoyed watching him in this, and it seems like you did, I'll do my underdog thing and recommend Twins and Kindergarten Cop (and I will put them in the form). I also think he's pretty good in Terminator 3, which is definitely inessential but still an entertaining watch, and probably the only other one that might be worth reacting to (I'd certainly love to see it as a Patreon exclusive). It's not like I want reactors to watch movies they might dislike, but T3, which has some really good stuff in it as well as some not as good stuff, is the type of movie that I think makes for an interesting discussion. 😎
That's what I hated about the trailers for the movie back when it was in theaters: they ruined the freaking surprise twist by showing Arnold helping John in the bloody trailer! Ugh! That's part of why I'm happy that the generation that is seeing this movie for the first time now didn't have that completely spoiled for them.
Terminator 5 Genesis is much better than 3.

If they'd made one major change, I think I could've liked Terminator: Dark Fate as much as 3 and Genisys, but I won't be explaining that change here.
@@tylerfoster6267 well said. Love your breakdown. The Terminator (84) and Aliens$ (made James Cameron) what makes him great, is he uses the same actors, their talents and skills. Paxton. Beihn. Jenette Goldstein and Lance Hendrickson. Also all 4 were in Aliens. One of the best sequels as is T2
In my opinion, the only real sequel of note is the 2007 Fox TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
I love this movie so much, and it was SO ahead of its time, in SO many ways. Of course the FX stand up -- the Corridor Crew VFX CZcams channel tried to re-create the jailbreak scene where the T-1000 walked through the barred door... and they couldn't do it. The original artists literally *wrote their own mathematical code* JUST for that scene alone. Custom built math for a few seconds that would stick in your brain for a lifetime. Legends.
But aside from all that, they had a great scientist who happened to be black, and a strong female character who was not a "strong female character" in the modern sense. Dyson was a believable scientist and a caring father, not a Steve Jobs god-like figure or a Musk-like salesman. Nor was the movie winking at you the whole time to say, "See? And he's black!!". They normalized the casting, as it should be. Kids of all backgrounds can look at Dyson as a kind of inspiration (unintended apocalypse aside). And Joe Morton played him so well, we all felt sick when he didn't make it.
And Sarah wasn't a perfect goddess, either. She had depth. She had character. She's someone that people can genuinely aspire to be like. She was more mentor than mother (a break from type as a Hollywood leading lady), and that made sense given all her struggles and limited time with John. And yeah, she felt like a terminator for a moment, when she was going after Dyson. Her line at the end of the movie about people being able to "value human life" -- that was her, acknowledging her own growth. Sarah Connor isn't just an icon because of her gender, she's an icon because of how compelling she is, both in the script and on the screen. Legend.
Yes. Probably the best movie ever.

Both Linda Hamilton and the Pescadero security guard have identical twin siblings. So whenever they're in the same shot with the T-1000 while it's impersonating them, it's their twin playing the T-1000.
Robert Patrick, the T-1000, was a champion runner. They actually had to get him to slow down because he was overtaking the dirt bike.

In this movie, you see the full scope of the genius that is James Cameron. The budget was raised and you can see by the visual effects that it was groundbreaking so much to the point it holds up even to this day.
If you had gotten to watch the Director's Cut of this film, the whole connection regarding the processor chip would have been better explained. There is a whole deleted sequence in the garage scene just after Sarah gets stitched up where they perform 'surgery' on Arnie, and the way it is shot is incredibly cool! The purpose of the processor chip is explained in that missing scene.
I find it refreshing that you're enjoying the portrayal of John's character. Most reaction channels I have watched find him to simply be annoying, not taking into account the backstory of the character or the fact the actor was 11 years old when this was filmed! 😎
They switch him from ROM to RAM.
They shoot at the T-1000 to make it flinch and slow down. Terminators also pick large vehicles, because they can ram through more obstacles once they are up to speed.

This movie blew our minds when it came out. Another milestone in movie effects; After the ABYSS's initial use of CGI (almost a test run for one scene), THIS was the true first usage of a CGI for most of the morphing effects throughout the film. It still looks good today... This film will always hold a special place in my heart. :)
By the time T2 was to be made Arnold was the biggest action hero in movies. He wouldn’t be accepted as the terrifying killer. Cameron did a masterful job coming up with a story making the Terminator the hero. T1 was early in Arnold’s career so he had few lines. Now he had his classic one liners 😎
When the protector terminator said, I cannot self terminate you must lower me into the steel. I can tell by your face expression as soon as he said that you were like "NO, I will not allow or accept this. Because we all wanted Arnold to keep living and continue on with Sarah and John. I did!

When James Cameron approached Linda Hamilton to do a Terminator sequel, she was doubtful and asked for details on the story. Cameron told her, "Your son is the target and you're in a mental institution."
Hamilton answered, "Only if I'm actually crazy."
Cameron said, "Perfect." And so Sarah's character arc in this film was born.

I went with someone to rent this movie at Blockbuster when I was a kid before I saw the 1st one and remembering trying to run like the T1000 lol. Your reaction to Arnold flipping the Gun on the motorcycle was great (lots of practice with his eyes closed to make it natural

One of the greatest movies ever defiantly a must watch, crazy fact: Linda Hamilton actually admitted on a talk show that she really never wanted to work with Arnold she felt that he was going to be difficult to work with but in the end really enjoyed working with him
Linda Hamilton wasn't told they would actually detonate a small nuclear tactical device on set. Her reaction of disintegrating to flaming bits was her real reaction.
- In an interview, the actress who plays Sarah Connor confessed that the gym is part of her routine, so she did not have to make a special physical preparation for her role in this movie.
- Halon is a chemically manufactured gas. It is used to extinguish fires in places with expensive electronic equipment, which cannot get wet, i.e. to extinguish dry fires. The problem is that it makes the air totally non-breathable and causes death by asphyxiation very quickly. I know this because I worked in an oil refinery years ago.
- It is not over yet. There is still the arm that has been trapped in the machinery.
Under normal conditions the arm and the Terminator's chip from the previous movie would have been stored in a much safer place, and in another equally safe place at least a copy of all the information extracted from them would have been kept
I like it when you emotionally nope out. You Get quiet but your smile remains...you did the same thing during Aliens when they were escaping in the vehicle and that one alien pokes his face in and growls at them
I loved your reaction. Fun fact: The actors the liquid T-1000 turned into we're twins in real life. The guy who got killed through the stabbing of his eye and Sarah Hamilton's twin sister at the end of the movie in the factory. Also, a deleted scene with Arnie & Linda & her twin sister when they turned off his chip so he could learn. The only one that wasn't a twin was John's step mom which was Vasquez in James Cameron's Aliens 😜

This movie was mindblowing to see when it first came out at the theater. I remember just walking in not even knowing what to expect.
22:55 Amazingly, having watched this movie many times and having watched many reactions to it, for the first time I noticed how much Ed Furlong truly looked like he could be really be the child of Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn. I think he has attributes of both. This young lady caught it on first viewing. Impressive!
It's a tiny detail, but I liked that the T-1000's face was intact when it crumbled. I'm sure that was planned - typical Cameron detail in film making.
I find it interesting that Arnold's Terminator says "Please" once in the first movie and this.
The first is when he walks into the police station and states "I'm a friend of Sarah Conner. I was told she was here, could I see her please?"
This one is when he and John are working underneath the car and he says "Torque wrench please"

Oh, one more thing, Sarah's a little unhinged in this film. Yeah, she's a badass, but... She's lived for approximately 10 years knowing the date of Judgement Day, the day 3 billion people die, and no one in their right mind would believe her. And the closer you get (it set about 1994 in this movie or so), the crazier you get. And she plays that part of her personality perfectly.

This movie is one of the greatest of all time. And you can also tell that they had a bigger budget to make it as well. 😄
As other person said, James Cameron relied on actors that had twin brothers/sisters to shot the scenes where the T-1000 doubles them. That was very fortunate on the case of Linda Hamilton, as she have a twin sister called Leslie. She appears on the dream scene as the Sarah version that's taking care of John in the park, and as the fake Sarah at the end of the movie.
Final note: hey KL, I watched the video to the end before commenting! Progress! 😅
Surprising how much of this movie was practical.
Even the future war scene was practical using only rotoscoping for the laser blasts.
They did the whole thing using puppets and miniatures, and when you see real people in the foreground, they were projecting the footage of the miniatures onto a back-screen, and filmed the whole thing in-camera, in real time.
Even the chopper under the bridge was real, with a crazy-ass pilot.
The only CGI, is when you see the T-1000 actually changing shape. Everything else was puppets and animatronics... and even wrapping Patrick in tinfoil and spraypaint for quick shots.
Sadly you missed one of the best shots because you watched the cinematic version.
In the extended cut, while in the garage overnight after escaping the T1000, they open up the Terminator's head, and reset his pin-switch so he can learn rather than "read".
They used Linda Hamilton's twin, a fake mirror, Arnie, a puppet of Arnie, Furlong, and Furlong's stunt double.
They make it look like they're cutting open Arnie's head, then pan across and look **into** his head and reach in with pliers to pull his control chip out.
All smoke and mirrors, literally, and no CGI.
Fun fact: the protagonist from the Doom 2016 video game, when dropped in lava, goes out like the good terminator in T2, holding a thumb up while sinking/burning. 😎
About Linda Hamilton’s twin sister playing Sarah in her apocalyptic dream scene, the story I read was that Arnold, not knowing she had an identical twin, hoisted her in the air and said, “125lbs, 8% body fat. Would have liked to have seen an embarrassed Arnie.
10:00 In the commentary to T2: Special Edition, James Cameron mentions that Robert Patrick can actually run even FASTER than that and had to deliberately run slower than his top speed.
10:31 / 39:54 That Winchester levergun was customized so Arnie could spin-cock it in the style of John Wayne or Chuck Connors. Also, in the SE, Cameron mentions that it's a 10-gauge. That means it might be a model 1901 rather than an 1887, but don't quote me on that. The model 1887 was made in both 12-gauge and 10-gauge, the model 1901 was only in 10-gauge, but the model 1901 was made to use then-modern cartridges (the kind that are still used nowadays) that use "smokeless" powder instead of "black" powder.

To get the liquid metal scenes the VFX studio hired a software programmer to created all codes for the simulations on their own to let the artist do the other work.
there was only a few liquid water simulation before and they put much more work into it then nessesary to make it look really nice and it worked out really well, even after 30 years the VFX dont look bad like in most other movies of the time - outdated, but not bad.
Corridor Crew recreated this effect at the 30th anniversity of the movie and even now it takes a lot of time to make it look good.

I respect you a lot out of the sea of reaction video CZcamsrs for your stance of watching the Star Wars sequel trilogy wanting to form your own opinion on them. The Terminator sequels are just as easily dismissed in every comment section and they end up forcing the reactors to completely ignore them which in my opinion betrays the point of this kind of videos (seeing if the reactor likes or hates a movie that their audience also likes or hates; and hopefuly also hearing their opinion of why is that). While it could be said that Terminator 1 and 2 are arguably the best of the bunch, I think that the later sequels, both the films and the tv series (that I've seen many are recomending to you) are still pretty good and have some really interesting ideas for the franchise and for sci-fi in general and at the very least, they'll give you a good time, so I'm hoping you keep going with them for videos.
Probably been mentioned but Robert Patrick (T-1000) was able to run so fast that they had to tell him to slow down because he was keeping up with the car so easily.
My dad made me watch this with him when I was about 7 or 8... absolutely blew my mind! ...between this or aliens for my favorite sequel ever and the helicopter,hgv chase still gets me hyped to this day

Not sure you got why the dog was barking at the foster parents' home. You said, "Hey!!!," when the father told the dogs to stop barking. Remember how dogs are sensitive to terminators? The dog was barking at the terminator disguised as the foster mother.
Uhh, that's precisely WHY I said "Hey!" towards him yelling at the dog. He was being mean and not realizing the reason the dog was barking.

You're the perfect level of nerd to make the PEAK T2 reaction. In the first few minutes your spidey sense felt like T2 was a remake of T1, as is sometimes the case with small movies and directors who hit it big and come back to revisit their old movie. Thank you for noting Joe Morton's haunting performance as Miles Dyson, You notice how traumatized Sarah is, and how her behavior makes sense. And thank you for noting how powerful Linda Hamilton's acting is in this movie. If released today, others might notice too and give her an award. This character saw her savior, lover, and father of her child die to a killer robot, and then needed to spend the rest of her days teaching herself how to be a warrior so she could then teach her son. She spent years hanging out with unsavory characters, building an armory, preparing for a war to save humanity. Yes that would kill some of your own humanity. This stark change in Sarah's character between movies is entirely believable when you see the terminator pull the chain of the bunker on the desert floor, and when you hear her monologue about how lonely they've been with men who don't match Reese. And despite how Sarah's trauma at the hands of the first terminator drained her humanity and turned her into a killer robot, everything she ever did was for her son and to protect humanity. By the end of the first movie, we can look back and see this in her, and Linda Hamilton said she chose this story for her character, so now we know that Linda always badass and just acting meek. A lot of modern movies will have these characters sit down at the start and have a chat explaining why they changed, but Jim Cameron peppers in the details of his returning characters so learning about them is part of the adventure.
T2 is more than just an action movie with special effects, it's a good movie period. People at the time didn't really process that. The older award voters especially weren't familiar with big action sequences... they felt like action and special effects were trashy. Jim Cameron had to keep hammering out successes that just happened to have action, and eventually people were able to process his work. T2 won production oscars, but the actors and director didn't even get nominated. Yet T2 swept the MTV movie awards, a sign of a cultural shift that could not be denied by the time Titanic took over the world. Today, big movies are the new normal, award shows with old voters struggle to stay afloat, and people watch whatever they want, whenever they want. Thank you for sharing this movie with us :) 😎
Final administrative thoughts: Jim Cameron lost ownership of the Terminator franchise because back then he wasn't the omega rich guy he is today. The companies that have owned it over the years have just milked it. While the other movies are only Terminator in name, not spirit, I'd say they're fine to watch for your channel/patreon, because content is content and you'll enjoy deciding for yourself how they all stack up. Finally, the T2 special edition isn't exactly a director's cut, it's more like an alternate universe version with deleted scenes added for fun. But the deleted scenes are informative, telling you some more about what Jim Cameron was thinking. For example, one of your pet peeves about T2 (and mine too) is addressed by a couple seconds of special effects cut from the theatrical release. Since you're so good at what you do, I'd watch you watch the special edition for the channel, and you could even release it on August 29th -- judgement day.
A cool piece of trivia Robert Patrick the actor who played the T-1000 was actually so fast at running, that in the scene where the T-1000 was running after John while he was riding his dirt bike, Robert actually ran and caught it; James Cameron the director actually had to tell him to slow down as John needed to escape the T-1000.

I always found it to be real and relatable, of course nostalgia and having a crush on Edward as a teen probably has something to do with it.

The helicopter flying under the bridge was done for real. They were trying to figure out a way to do it as an effect but the real helicopter pilot (the actual actor who jumped out when the T-1000 told him to) said he was confident he could do it for real and that's what you see in the movie.
Yeah, it looked totally real to me! Some helicopter pilots are so dang talented.
Though the bullets do not do anything to stop the new Terminator they do slow him down so they can get away. When they are shooting at helicopter the intent was to down the chopper. Great reaction oops forgot 😎

Great reaction. You're one of the few reactors I've seen who catch that when Sarah goes after Miles, she essentially tries to "become" a Terminator. Definitely watch the extended edition, it adds a TON of context and several of my favorite scenes in the movie. If you released a supercut of your reactions to the new and extended scenes, I'd definitely watch it.

14:25 letting the computers decide who is a threat is how they got in this mess in the first place.
When this movie came out, it got rave reviews. The problem? In recapping the basic plot, every reviewer said some variation of, "This time, Arnold is the GOOD GUY!" (We didn't have spoiler alerts back then.) Oh well, I saw the movie during opening weekend and loved it all the same. But It's hard to imagine being in your shoes, seeing that twist for the first time. I can't imagine that moment of "oh, this time Arnold is the protector?" So I loved watching you experience that - especially your sense that the "cutie patootie" is the good guy!
Arnold being the good guy was all over the previews. I remember it very well. One of the original trailers had a tagline that said "This time he's back... FOR GOOD!" You can find it on CZcams. So pretty much everyone knew going in that he was the good guy. In 1991 Arnold was a much bigger star than he was in 1984 and known as an action-hero, so it makes sense from a marketing perspective. It's cool to see new reactors who go into the movie with no idea.
T2 is my favourite film of this series.
I will flirt with the 'no expectation spoilers' rule with this carefully crafted statement on T3: It's weaknesses are very much a product of its time (2003) but I think the story still has value.
T2 is in my opinion one of the most awesome movies of all time and groundbreaking when it comes to filming and special effects! And I don't mean only the CGI of the T-1000, which was jaw-dropping at that time! In fact, the T-1000 and parts of Sarah's nightmare were the only CGI in the whole movie, everything else was old-fashioned practial effects. One of the best examples you only see in the director's cut: the T-800 is sitting in front of a mirror while Sarah is opening his head and removing his CPU, so they can switch it from "read-only" to "write". The scene is shot with a model of Arnold, Linda Hamilton's twin sister and an empty frame, and it looks totally real! This scene also explains why the terminator is beginniing to learn and I really can't understand why they cut it out for the theatre version, because in my opinion it is essential. Same with a scene in which Dyson explains to his wife (and the audience), what was his intention with the CPU he was working on: making the world saver with autonomus flying airplanes for example.
The chopper chasing scene is also a real shot, no CGI, no model, a real helicopter is chasing the SWAT truck and flying below a bridge!
In my opinion, you don't have to watch any other of the other movies, T1 + T2 are a perfect round up.
23:42 great scene. Because if Sarah had pulled the trigger, there would have been no difference between her and the Terminator. She was turning into a cold blooded killer until it clicked she was becoming the living manifestation of the machine that tried killing her 7 years ago.
Fun fact, the Terminator series continues past the second film, though many reactors fail to see that, or believe the people that say they are rubbish films.
But the channels that react to them, get great views and many positive comments! 😂

Great reaction, loved it! The rest of the series, whilst not able to hold a candle to this one, are still objectively good movies, imho. I'm the sort of person who wants to find out what happens in the rest of the story, and the other movies, if nothing else, achieve that. This whole thing is a time loop, after all, and I feel the rest do a pretty good job of filling in the gaps in the loop. I vote you react to them, please!

T2 really knocked it out of the park across the board. Also related to the "PG-13" review: When my niece was a toddler she actually wanted to watch it. Wasn't scared after the first viewing so always asked to watch "The Ucky Guy" when she visited 🤣
