- In this Channel 7 special broadcast before the announcement of the host for the 2000 Summer Olympics the Sydney bid is examined and discussed, looking at issues such as finances, bid politics, infrastructure and rivals. The final section covers the rival bids to Sydney - Berlin, Istanbul, Manchester and Beijing, and then looks at the final presentation plans for the IOC Congress in Monte Carlo when the 2000 bid was announced.

When Manchester's bid was defeated for the second time (lost 1996 bid) & third overall bid by a British city (Manchester lost 1992 bid), the British Olympic Association decided that London was to be the only city to represent the UK for any future olympic bids. They probably knew London was the only British city that had chance to win over the IOC when bidding against other major world cities.
Although Manchester did go to host the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
What did he mean return to the games to Europe? The last Olympics held at the time of this video was Barcelona.
He meant Central Europe.
Birmingham lost the race to host the 1992 games, not Manchester
And Birmingham is going to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games as well!
