    Brasilia had no chance of winning the bid for the 2000 games. In the IOC's evaluation report of all the bidding cities, Sydney had the highest marks when it came to infrastructure, the ability & readiness to host the games, Brasilia had the lowest, citing "the total apparent absence of contact of sport" in their bid plans & the cities substandard facilities. Brasilia is a city that was built from the ground up in 1960.

      You can't expect to bid for an Olympics when you have close to nothing.
      Simply boasting that you have an airport, main stadium and arena is nothing. Especially when your subway network is still a proposal.

  • @LordDavid04
    @LordDavid04 Před 5 lety

    Hmm, no report from Berlin (although another Today show coverage video shows it). They claimed that they had most of the venues there (many legacy from the 1936 Olympics), but would still needed to build a new aquatics centre, velodrome, arenas and other specific venues. The Germans clearly had too much on their plate at the time of just being 3 years out of Reunification. There were clearly more pressing matters than the symbolic Olympics, even if they claimed that it could be done.

      We can thank Bob Carr and NSW Labor for getting in two years later as a result for the city being a disaster since. It's now an Asian shithole these days.

    Sydney Olympics really were the best the vast majority of the stadiums used in Sydney are still used to this day. Another reason why there the best is that over 114,000 went to the closing ceremony and I believe over 110,000 went to the opening ceremony. I would say Sydney was the last of the mostly clean Olympics. I can’t wait for LA 28 when I can watch the Olympics finally be back in the USA my home nation

    And also I feel that when Sydney hosted the Olympics in 2000 it was both Australian and British because having done some research James Cook who was in the Royal Navy went to Australia and claimed it for Great Britain, also known as the UK. And because Australia uses the union jack on it's flag, I'm proud to say for me the Sydney Olympics was both Australian and British as Australia is the second United Kingdom Country.

      @@bruceli9094 actually the best year to host olympics in the 21st century is 2008 and 2012, anything before this period is old fart, anything after this period is abit late to the party as olympics importance and purpose decreased. Hence the success of 2008 beijing and 2012 london.
