Superb conversation. Nothing is right or wrong. What matters is that people should have the freedom to have their distinct/unique opinions about anything & everything. Both these legends (Vir Sanghvi, Barkha Dutt) studied from top universities in UK/USA (Oxford University, Columbia University). Today I pray to God that, I pursue an MBA program from a top B-School in USA/UK starting fall of 2024. I have always admired the work (columns, editorials, etc.) of both these journalists. Whether biased or not, both of them have this extraordinary ability to convey things (from their perspective). I think that's what truly matters. Even the best of humans, become biased at times. That's why we are humans (not God).

Rohitji, there is right and wrong. Human languages and communication is based on perspectives (परिप्रेक्ष्य). The word ‘right’ exists for a purpose. Our scriptures describes 3 types of opinions - 1.श्रीमत (opinion of the supreme ie absolute truth) 2. मनमत (human perspectives) and 3. परमत (everyone’s opinion). However, an expert opinion of a human-being based on sound reasoning is significantly better than WhatsApp Uni opinion, a mix of मनमत एंड परमत.
      This just my humble opinion!

Left leaning intellectually biased media influenced by foreign media has in fact one of root causes congress party degradation. The other factor is Hindu hatred and Muslim appeasement. The third factor being change geo- politics and economics . The fourth factor is people getting to know real stories of Indian pride rather than perverted stories being told about Hinduism and very much silent about other religions - opened up due to information technology

Interesting to watch these two PRESTITUTES that were once reporting Piople's pulses and raising issues concerning democracy, harmony, are now discussing about Right and Left....Both were journalists I was proud of when Veer was editor of SUNDAY magazine And Dutt was reporting LIVE from Gujarat on infamous 2002 coo.unal riots that Naredra Damodar Modi conceived and administered.....but then onward, both lost their reputation at least in today's media world....Hope, they do more as True Journalists to strengthen Indian demoy and Harmony our great freedom fighters and visionary leaders dreamt of.

18:58 ; For those who think Indira’s blaming the CIA was a red herring it’s worth reminding that India’s growing proximity with Russia epitomised by the overnight signing of friendship treaty with russia - in response to the entry of the Seventh fleet (Task force 74) in the Bay of Bengal & the dismembering of Pak ) wasn’t taken lightly by Nixon - who at that time was engaged in arming nearly 60 despots around the globe - and thus started the CIA’s mission to oust indira in favour of a capitalist-friendly Morarji desai ( Seymour hersh the American journalist had revealed in 1984 that Morarji was a CIA’s mole operating under the facade of being Gandhian ). Apart from Nixon’s personal grudge against Indira for twisting his nose the US administration was more pissed up against the socialistic welfare programme the congress party had embarked upon after the electoral victory achieved on the Gareebi Hatao slogan. Sensing morarjis CIA links Indira didn’t even invite morarji to the meeting in which the pathbreaking decision to nationalise all insurance and banking companies was taken. So when nothing seemed to work for the CIA it resurrected JP out of his political sanyas and the movement to destabilise indira was launched with all urgency with the covert help of anti-indira manuwadi bamman-baniya congressmen. Indira was even misguided by the likes of SS Ray into declaring emergency against her wishes although it came as a response to JP’s toxic call to the police and the army to revolt. When indira overcame the setbacks post emergency the CIA played the Khalistan communal card with the help of the notorious RSS …..

    1. Access to sources definitely makes the life of a journalist much more bearable, but I have been brought up in the belief ideally, they should not have any friends. It has been said cultivation of loneliness and meritocracy is the keystone of journalistic success.
    2. Although politicians would always try to give some ideological gloss on anything and everything under the sun, but after all is said and done a government in power is essentially nothing if not a service provider. So, it stands to reason that they should be judged first and foremost on issues uncluttered by dogmas.

There are many factors at play including governance, corruption etc. So BJP being in power doesn't mean 'right wing' fanatics are in power...don't malign 99% cause of crazy 1% fanatics who actually might be going out and doing violence on name of religion.

Problem for them is that they had been left wing hacks for long time. Similar to politicians if they start accepting the ground truth then their base audience will get offended. Also for them it's hard to accept mentally that the right wing is also normal people. If one keeps repeating lies it becomes part of identity. Few balanced people like shkhar Gupta only could move sides by small margin and hacks like barkha and rajdeep are in a way struggling to keep semblance of objectivity.

@Barkha Datta and Vir Sanghvi ... (1) your "idea of India", "idea of what makes India work" is Gandhian/Nehruvian and completely flawed ... !! ... After the bloody partition of 1947, the silent majority Hindus were leaderless, had no options (Gandhi/Nehru did politics with the help of the British, completely marginalized the Hindu right, and hijacked India), but chose to have patience and give the Congress party the benefit of doubt ... !! ... they were comprehensively let down by the failed socialist model of economic policies, culture of rampant corruption and nepotism, poverty, blatant Muslim appeasement ... !! ... they were waiting for Narendra Modi to happen for 70 years... !! ... (2) ... Vir's parents were not as religious as him, because the circumstances are completely different. His agnostic parents enjoyed the easy era of impunity of the Lutyens' elites, Vir unfortunately did not ... !! ... Vir must know that a good Hindu is one who cares about defending the faith with his life, from the onslaught that is real, happening slowly but surely every single day ... !!
