    I accidentally left my budgie's cage door open and came back to see him sitting on the door with what looked like a big smile on his face!

    My rescued Quaker's previous owners would literally chase her around d the cage EVERY time they took her out, so that has made her severely hand phobic. Because of that, she has become an expert at biting, drawing blood and grinding her beak when she bites me. Because of this, for the last 14 years or so since I adopted her, I always allow her to open her door (after I un-lock it) and she takes great pride in deciding when she is ready to come out. When she is out, she calls me and follows me wherever I go. 😁 She is a big talker ( that happened before you taught me that when they talk, they are in a heightened state and now I know that isn't always a good thing). Thank you for being my go to educators on everything for my Gracie Lou. Thanks to you and your pellets, I was able to convert her from an all sunflower seed diet to now, when she DEMANDS your pellets and loves her fresh veggies every morning! You guys are the best!❤

    If they’re too fearful of their environment, you can put a perch on the outside of their cage, right by the door and put their favorite toys and treats out on that perch and wait for a long time with the cage door open. May even take days depending on the personality and situation of your individual bird, but eventually they’ll see the treats and toys and want to come out to them. Try your best to work at their pace. Put treats closer or farther away from the door depending on how fearful your budgie is.

      Great tip! I did this with a rescue cockatiel that’s been locked up his whole life, works great!

      Yes that is a really unstressful way to start, this way kinda like Jamie said, it's thier idea, I agree! I mean the bird does it on thier own time without being demanded to come out, nice!

    It is always great to see the bond that you have with Blueberry. She is a fabulous budgie! Merry Christmas 🎅. Gina

  • @YouaH88

    I have the opposite issue with my budgie. She will not leave me alone. She flys to me pick at my clothes and plays with my fingers. She will do this the whole time she is out of the cage and I'm there. So I only let her out when I'm not in the room. How can I train her to play on her playstand and not me?

    • @maiaheiss2991
      @maiaheiss2991 Před rokem

      Same here! Mine is a cockatiel. He rests on his own for very short amounts of time before he’s back over to me not wanting to miss out on anything. I have to actually leave the house for him to really rest or get a nap.

      Never thought about hormones because she's always like this. I don't see what I would be doing to trigger any hormones. I'm hands off with her.

    my lovie hens don't want to come out... not out of fear or not wanting to be with me (I let them out into the closed balcony which is essentially a big flight), but because they want to make a nest in there. I swear lovebirds can only fit one idea in their heads... especially when paired (even tho they're separated!)
    any tips?

    What do I do after my budgie is out of the cage??? I feel like maybe I watched your videos too soon and now she's out and I'm letting her hang out, not chasing her, etc. Idk what to do 😭😭😭😭😭 I can't afford a course right now 😭😭😭 I hope I'm not traumatizing her or anything blah 😔😔😔

    Easiest way to get them to come out is just change the food or water at the moment you don't have time for them to come out. Then they will fly right on out,lol.
