"My Budgie Blueberry" sounds like a children's book.
@White fluffy Birb not at all. It would be an adorable name for a children's book. :)
It feels like it could be a first pet story about how to properly treat birds and how they're different from other pets.
@@Whateverhasbeenmynameforyears It could also be part of a series lol. “My Budgie Blueberry”, “My Blue Throat Macaw Jinx”, “My Galah Bondi”
Hey theyre giving you a new idea, make a childrens book to educate about budgies eaely 🥰🥰
I feel like she would be the one to write it and I bet it would be so cute! Oh and she could give subtle advice for koddos❤
Just imagine if pet stores actually did the responsible thing and STOPPED selling damaging things like mirrors, happy huts and crap seed mixes? It would be amazing!
I know 😮💨 it’s awful. I actually try to leave negative Amazon reviews for happy huts to warn people… but there are sooo many
This couldn’t have come at a better time! I just got my budgie about a week ago.
I will go look for a budgie next week i get second covid 19 shot tomorrow 🐣🐥🐤🐦
How is it going? I just got mine a week ago too
I got mine yesterday night😂
I’m getting my budgies tonight
i ahve to wait 4 days to get 2 budgies, maybe one but idk. someone remind me when the time has come to update
Thank you for this!!! I don’t have a budgie yet but I’m learning as much as I can about them before I get one. You and your fam are literally the best!!!!
If you haven’t gotten one yet, please adopt it from someone who needs to rehome theirs or check your local shelters and rescue groups for ones you can adopt :)
@@xradelox I 100% agree! Don't get them from a pet store 😔 I got three. Two died suddenly and one is currently dying. There are others in the same group that were sick and died as well.
@Ava Brickey did you get your birds yet?
For my two budgies I tried spraying them with water and putting them in like a bowl and the sink but they flew out so I found that water on a plate works the best... for any of you budgie owners needing tips :)
Hi Livia , one of my budgie would never bath, till I bought Romain lettuce washed a leaf whilst still wet placed in my hand , hey presto they step onto lettuce and started to bath hope this helps , and good luck :)
@@dawnjudd7941 thank you :)
Mine likes being sprayed. He never dipped a toe in the water
Always good to see videos on care for smaller birds!
They often get overlooked!
hi, im thinking of getting an outdoor aviary for my budgies just for them to get a bit of sun. They wont stay there, they will only be in there for like an hour just to get sunlight. If the aviary is made of treated wood do you think its safe for the budgies?
Aye
Pun making Parrot huh?
@@weshouldsaveourselves6780 most likely not, I think it would be best to use stainless steel (metals treated with zinc are a no go) or buy a premade one (there are some pretty inexpensive ones on amazon)
I don't think parakeets would chew on those treated wood boards.
Blueberry I love your face!
I work at a pet store and this is soooo helpful for me to know! I help our animals find forever homes and I try to tell every person considering taking an animal home the extent of care that’s required for them to be happy and healthy and I do everything I can to make sure they are willing to make that commitment to give these little guys the best life possible and that they knows it’s totally their responsibility.
I think too many people go to a pet store and say, “oh I’ve been wanting a bird for a while.” While they’re browsing around or say one day, “it would be cool to have a lizard.” Etc, and bring an animal into their life having no clue what they’re signing up for.
I think budgies experience this scenario very often unfortunately. I’m really grateful for all the info you share and everything you do to help our feathered friends and their human flocks 💕 thank you!
P.S. after fostering our green cheek for 2 weeks we have decided that she is in her forever home :) our life is changed in such a beautiful way and we love our birdie to bits. After watching your videos, reading your guides, and learning everything I can, I say with full confidence that you have been a major part in our learning and decision process to bring this little sweetie into our home. Thank you!!!
Great comment! Yes we are responsible for them.
You are awesome cause 95% of pet stores don’t even have workers who like animals 💯
This is a great comment but also kind of upsetting because it just goes to show that pet stores in general do not require their employees to learn what’s best for each species they sell and also how to relay that info to customers. Yet another reason why I wish it was illegal for stores to sell live animals. I mean, what if someone is a car salesman? It would be pretty ridiculous for them to not know a thing about the cars they sell. And yet living beings can be sold to and from complete morons. So thank you for being different and doing your due diligence for these little guys. I’d sneak in comments about adoption to customers if I were you 😜
@@xradelox yeah I mean, it’s the unfortunate reality. I no longer work at that store because they wouldn’t let me give proper care to the animals. Corporate didn’t give us enough time/payroll to do any proper care and the store (as good as their hearts may be) just couldn’t fight back. I decided I couldn’t live with contributing to their suffering, especially not for capitalism. Believe me, adoption was in nearly every convo I had from fish to small mammals to birds to reptiles and beyond. Also so. Many. People. Who just PICK UP TURTLES AND BRING THEM HOME. wtf?? I was fully transparent with them about how much of a mistake that was and how involved they now have to be. I find that lots of times, the employees do care a lot and eventually get burnt out and soul-sucked into either not caring enough or quitting 😣
I actually work for a shelter but my job is to care for the adoptable cats that are housed at a local pet store and do the adoptions. Most of the staff are very friendly and try their best to care for the animals so I totally understand what you mean. I definitely sneak in adoption and also proper care and supplies any chance I get. I’ll even stop people who are wanting to buy those horrible hamster cages and show them pictures of bin cages and show them CZcamsrs that have great info. Most people go and put the items back 😂 So I do have to be careful but I know each conversation I have can help save lives and make the animals’ lives better! The more people speak up, the more lives are affected 🙌🏻
We got the tiny toy box the day it dropped! Such a good purchase! Our budgies both love the sunflower! If anyone is on the edge about buying it, just do it!
I bought it for a first time too - both me and our birds like it. Parakeet toys from pet stores usually are way too rough and bulky.
Hi! New budgie adopter here! I worked with larger parrots for 10 years as a zoo keeper and needed some information on diet and your information was helpful! Also the tid bit about wetting the greens to encourage bath time is genius! Although I know and am comfortable with caring for and training birds, I do enjoy your input as tiny birds will be different for me!
Very informative video for any small bird owner. My budgies love bathing in a cat fountain. They go underneath the waterfall and splash away 😀
That’s so cute
I’m loving your small bird vids! They have helped me so much with my 3 budgies.
I love this video, everytime I see you post one I get so excited!!
This is so inspiring! I'm definitely going to up my game with these concepts for my next budgies! I had a single female budgie, a small mirror was comforting for her, she was not obsessed with it. She spent time where she would go quietly sit by it but did a lot if other activities too.
My lovebird had a super wide cage and I noticed she only used half of it so I got her a tall cage and she actually uses the whole thing top to bottom. Everyone keeps coming after me for it though🙈 I swear I’ve watched ALL your videos and tried the wide cage first! lol she’s a weirdo 🥰
Thanks! Many think budgies are somehow simple compared to other parrots, maybe because of the price. They actually seem to be every bit as complicated, but with a less scary commitment 😉. Very excited to add one or two to my life!
omg the grass thing is amazing! I never would have thought of that!
It is crazy that this came out today as I was just starting research on budgie care as I would love to get one. Thank you for the great video.
Thank you for the awesome video, Jamieleigh, Dave, and Blueberry! My budgie, Houdini, demolishes mahogany pods and large alfafa pellets I hold up to his face - will definitely try the other materials you mentioned.
Birdtricks has been my go to for everything budgie. So many pet budgies are going to have much better lives thanks to your advice!!
Best introduction ever!
Awww blueberry is Soo cute!
Fantastic informative video as always, wish every bird owner would watch these videos before they go out and buy. I was recently in far west Queensland, and was lucky enough to see huge flocks of thousands of budgies it was a very unique experience. Apparently they have been going through a breeding frenzy as we have had alot of rain this year in Australia.
This is beautiful. I love how informative & fun this is. I'm excited to get my first budgie!!! 💞 💞 💞 💞
I always was told for parrot types that taller was better as they like to climb. I had a flight cage for my canaries.
Interesting to hear that!
Absolutely love & really appreciate all the budgie vids you've given us. You look so different with darker hair. You look good either way.
Thanks for your uploads! Love the info provided. So motivating 🙂
Such great timing I got my baby budgie yesterday
I absolutely vouch for all the content I have bought so far from your store! I got your cook book bundle, and it has done miracles. I am a new bird owner, and I realized that one of my lovebirds had a rather... porous beak. I noticed this because I fed them bell peppers, and it made her pale beak discolored. I right away incorporated boiled egg and egg shells into the diet, and it's amazing to see that her beak is looking much more opaque and not semi-translucent. And the discoloration is almost gone too!
Pro tip:
If you have a coffee bean grinder, put the shells of your boiled eggs into it and give it a go. You'll get this fine powder, almost like flour, and you can just sprinkle it on top of any food :)
You are an absolutely amazing asset wow! Thank You!
Jamieleigh....this was so much fun! I loved it. You’re the best teacher. You touched on so many important elements in having a smaller bird. Food, weight, bathing, mirrors, toys, everything! Honestly, I’m saving my money for a Large Toy box. My Shiba Inu, has been ripping up paper, plastic and cardboard boxes since she was 6 weeks old. Shes 8 now. She would absolutely love one of those large toys. Keep up the great work! You know I love you!nj❤️❤️❤️TheOldLady❤️❤️🦜🕊🦋🌺🏠💐
Such awesome and helpful content!
I’m thinking of getting a parakeet in a few months from now and I wanted to research first before getting one. Thanks for sharing this!
So many great tips that we will be working on! We look forward to learning more from your channel. Thanks!!
Great information! As much as I love all the videos with big birds. I only have one cute little conure myself. It's really helpful to see videos specific about small birds
Thank you so much for this video
You know I did not know that about mirrors in cages. Very informative and interesting. Thank you X
So information thanks you were so helpful
Thanks for your help!
Love your programs keep up the good work
This has been so helpful.
Bird Tricks uploaded on my birthday!🥺💙🐦
Happy birthday!!
@Ayla Kenney Happy Birthday!! 🥳🎂
Happy Birthday!!! 🦜
Happy birthdaaaayyy!!!😊💖
Yay happy birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉
I just adore Blueberry. 🐦
i was hoping for a new budgie video.... i got my budgies 5 months ago, i have 3, they live in a big flight cage and know how to wave, spin, kiss, come or recall and step up... they eat chop and a blende mix of pellets and seeds as they are not as keen as swiching over to pellets... but thank you so much... you have enriched my birds lifes by 1000% thank you so much.... thank you for all your videos... i have wayched all of them and most 2 times...i love all your birds and your amazing family.... thank you:)
This video is so informative thank you!
Blueberry is SUPER CUTE!
I saw a beautiful budgie at the store all alone in a glass cage. It had two perches and one destroyed toy. I was so bored, it started eating the glue connecting the glass. I felt so bad for him. Every time someone walked by he got super excited and tried to follow them. It broke my heart😢
Omg this is why every one needs to buy from recuses (or not get birds) so the pet shop doesn’t have enough money to get more birds
Omg, I so needed this. I'm thinking of getting budgies soon!
Budgies are THE BESTTTT
@@Hannah-fr2mg They're adorable!
Budgies are addictive, but noisy in a flock, be aware they talk from dusk to dawn
I really admire you because like you, I love these winged friends and it is a dream of my life now to visit your zoo, hahaha. You do a great job and all your parrots are adorable. Εverything I write is with a lot of appreciation and love!
Wow, your scale is brilliant.
I love u all!😅 And I appreciate ur work and sharing ur wealth and knowledge and fun!. Ty😉✌
Yes I just got my first one yesterday
Keep up the good content ..
I'm hand feeding a few clutches of budgies and 4 quakers as I watch this video again.....great video , thanks 👍
I think this is mu favorite video you' guys have made and I've begin to include a link to this video often to newbie budgies owners on my fcbook budgies groups. Excellent coverage of all the basics and the importance of diet and fresh food being pretty paramount.. I notice that about 90% of new budgies owners have been told that seed alone is all they need... thanks pet stores....... Sigh...
Hahaha! Dave cracks me up lol 😆
Love this video
Hi bird tricks to is really helps thanks for these videos
you guys are the best
I very much agree
A lot of parrot owners trust this channel, thank you for finally making a GOOD informative video about budgies. There are so many bad ones on CZcams. With out dated information about this awesome species. Everything in this video I've been telling budgie owners for years, I am not sure half of them listen. Maybe now they will when I link them this video!
We have had our budgie for about a year... I'm excited to hear about your seed mix because Cheeks is so particular she won't eat bird tricks muffins nor the pellets...she is feisty...I am also looking into taking her to her 1st vet visit soon...
when will we have another jinx video? love the small birds but am missing your larger birds!!! x
Thank you so much for making this I am 13 and trying to get as much information about budgies as possible so I can convince my dad to let me buy one!
Has your dad let you get a bird yet?
Dave 'that's what she said' lol and this folks is why we have walk in cages. Sometimes we need to put family members in lol 😂💖 totally joking but I couldn't help myself love you guy's xx
Hello intro is still funny 😂
So excited thank you for this video 🙏 I’ve just put down the deposit on a a beautiful yellow and white budgie who I’m calling Angel. Even at 30 it’s my first bird, nervous to get it right so this really helps ❤
how’s it going so far?
As long as you watch BirdTricks (and implement there advice & techniques) your on the right track
Is there any thing you’d like to fix what are you currently working on with her?
Thank you soooo much
I have a half trained home raised budgie parakeet in eastern NC
hi i have two females bluebell and apple great company and so clever.
I got 2 budgies yesterday, I love them! I keep repeating the affirmation “ you are safe, you are loved.” While I place my handle on the outside of their cage. That seems to calm them down. However It breaks my heart seeing how terrified they are of me. I know it’s only been 2 days but they won’t take food from me. Won’t step up won’t let my hand get near them even with a treat. I know building trust takes time but I’m worried they’ll hate me forever. I appreciate your tips and all your info you’ve shared! It’s helped me worry a little less. ❤
Great videos. I saw you have paper rolls under your avairies. I put wire between cage and paper, so birds canty get to the paper and rip it up. Also put plastic under the paper stops the saturation going through to cement floor. Only put plastic if birds can't get to it. X x
Love your videos blueberry I have fancy parakeet named sam who is going to be 4 in April
I love these vids so funny
My scale will finally be here sometime today. I wish I could have bought one of yours, but I ordered a cheaper one on Amazon so I can order yours when they come in😁
Thank you for this video!! I have 2 budgies and im trying to get them onto a pellet diet, do you have any tips? so far they haven't taken to it.
How did u attach the perch to the scale? Did it come that way? Love ur videos I have learned SO much. Ty
Getting a budgie in a few weeks!
You say not to put a new budgie from a pet store into his cage right away, but you did not elaborate on when or how this step can be done. I’m enjoying your budgie course!! Thank you.
If you guys haven’t bought the tiny toys from BirdTricks yet you really need to check them out. The box of eight in price comparison to a store bought toy is the box for one of decent quality maybe two if they’re crappy. Plus I have three cockatiels and three budgies and before this box only two out of the six played with toys now all six love them so no bs these toys rock.
I recently learned that one of my budgies Pluto loves taking a spray bottle bath. And shortly after his brothers joined him
I'm going to get a budgie next Saturday
Hi Jamie, I recently brought home a sun conure. She has a really bad habit of trying to steal table scraps. She will literally fly into your plate if you're not careful and will fly to you if you do as little as walk into the kitchen. How do I discourage this behavior?
Edit: she is on a healthy diet of chop every morning and pellets in the evening. She almost always has access to food, as she usually only eats 1/3 of her pellets and eats the rest before breakfast. She's given sun flower seeds throughout the day, so I doubt it's just because she's just hungry.
Did you already change her diet to a healthier palate? if not you should use this to get her eating healthier. Maybe you should try giving her more food since she seems hungry. to discourage this behavior, I would try showing her that she gets her food in the place you feed her and nowhere else. Try not to avoid letting her have any food that isn't hers and CONSTANTLY show her where she gets food. ( Sorry, I know I'm not an expert but I have my own birds and I wanted to help)
I don't know if this would work but my immediate guess was what if you kept doing this purposefully with an empty plate and she realized that even if you have a plate you don't have food. Or maybe put something on the plate she doesn't like.
As for the kitchen thing, maybe put her away/distract her with target training if she knows that? Or maybe set yourself up for success and try putting her in her cage to prevent her from trying to get to you. Or putting a toy in there to occupy herself. Or putting treats (bird ones) in her cage so she likes it there better.
Don't have her out when you're eating. Put her in her cage with a foraging toy so she never has the chance to steal anything (because once she has, she's been rewarded).
I suggest putting her away when u eat as well. I know they can be loud (I have a conure too), but you have to break the behavior, it has to be done.
I went through similar thing with our bird. We used to treat him whenever we eat cuz he does a cute thing begging. So he got into the habit of begging during meal time. But we want to feed him healthier diet so ended up stop giving him treats whenever we eat. The first few days were brutal cuz u know how loud they can get. LOL But u just have to anchor down and push through it to break the behavior. Now he doesn't beg anymore.
When u try and if ur bird screams, don't treat, don't respond, don't even look at her to give any sorts of reward. Eventually she will get that this behavior does not get me food and eventually stops doing it.
I'm not an expert, just speaking from my own experience.
I’m glad you are showcasing the Omlet geo cage. Owners of this cage are being bullied by the online bird community bc of the myth that owning any cage that’s not square is abuse. (This comes from as you know, those tall circular cages birds have been sold in at fairs etc, where the bars narrow at the top, the birds are put in are too big and can’t turn around… these are always narrow and too small for any bird)
My friend was bullied and had to make her channel private, even though she only uses those cages for sleep and travel, and also has flight cages.
People should of course know that the Omlet cage is not meant to be used to permanently cage the bird 24/7 and that they need toys, enrichment, out of cage time, not just to be in that cage 24/7 with no toys and just two swings, which is how the cage is shown in advertisements.
But when tweaked to the individual birds, the cage is amazing and small birds love it, we like to put a thin colorful jungle ‘red bubble’ tapestry draped over the back and put a lamp on, backlight it, so it glows like a little habitat dome, and they love to go in and preen “in the jungle”
They also have an aviary style 60” wide cage.
So I hope you using this cage brings awareness that it’s not a neglectful or abusive thing.
Hi you are so grate and you helped you bird get a better life so thank you very much and my bird is a lutino cocktail and his name in lulu
Can you do a video on how to do sprouts? I’ve heard so many different things and I’m always so scared to do it wrong it’s hard to tell if it’s being done right
Yaaaay we loveeee budgie videoooooooos hehe
It’s really annoying cuz where I live I can’t really get any good pellets I was sooooo happy when I found tops pellets where I live but now the store that sold them don’t sell them anymore like WHYYYYYYYY WOULD YOU DO THAAAAAAAT
I have watched all your videos but have been especially loving the budgie ones lately as that’s what I have. Do you or anyone in the comments have ideas for foraging ideas for the tiny birds?
On the topic of blood draws, I worked a a small animal hospital and we would get the little vials meant for birds for kittens so we could get a usable sample off a smaller amount of blood. The vials they have for birds are much smaller than what you would draw for people or dogs. They are 1ml I want to say but I might be remembering wrong it has been years.
If Blueberry is cageless overnight and puts herself to sleep around 6pm, how does she get uninterrupted sleep at night (e.g. When you are going to bed yourself)?
Definitely wouldn’t work in my cat friendly house 😬
I ve seen your nice and helpfull video. A question I ve: does budgies but als a parrot like the size of a Meyer parrot (20-25 cm) needs a so called cuttle bone for calcium? Or is this included in your feeding system?
Hello Jamie. I love your channel so much. Thank you for the great contents. Do you clip nails of budgies? I noticed two of my budgies (2year old) nails get quite long and I am worried they got stuck on textiles (drapes, my sweater..etc). I do use various perching trees in the cage but still they get long. I had clipped them before but I am unwilling as I do not want them to have bad experience..any experience on this?
i’ve been researching budgies for 3 years, and everything i learned was honestly so repetitive, but this video went into depth and really explained things very well. is $400-500 enough to start with budgies? i want to rescue two of them from this one lady who is selling them, she says her kids are neglecting them and i think i’m ready.
I need more Quaker parrot training videos 😂
Yeeesss!!!💖💖
Do you know if living things start smart seed and pellet medley is a good diet? I just got my couple today. I got a few fresh broccoli bit, grapes and cucumber slices for them too today to start with.
How is Blueberry? 😊she is my budgie, Willow’s friend!😊she loves watching her videos 🤩they help me be the best Budgie mommy I can be, too!❤️❤️
My daughter has been asking us for a parakeet since we visited a local pet store a few weeks ago. Im a little overwhelmed with all the preparation, but she has successfully convinced me to get one for the family. I have spent a couple hours researching and have thankfully landed at this youtube channel. I will be watching more about Blueberry. Thanks
Great parent ❤
I'm getting my new budgie baby in a few weeks and getting ready to set up the cage. I've collected a bunch of appropriate toys but I'm wondering how many toys I should put in for when I bring my budgie home. Would she be overwhelmed by too many toys or less inclined to interact if her cage is too interesting in the early days at home?
Please make videos about towel training and harness training for small birds! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I have a question could you do the same video but for a sun conure? I’m thinking of getting one. I did all the research but it would still be helpful 😅 Love you
Hey, I have a free flight question. How do you train a bird to avoid the street while flying?
