Funny you mention Beauty and the beast and that particular song, Be our guest. The voice of Lumiere in the swedish version of that movie was actually made by - Jan Malmsjö! So he sang that song and it suited him perfectly.
Jan Malmsjö had 20 songs on Svensktoppen, 5 on Kvällstoppen and participated in Melodifestivalen twice. I would say this is his greatest hit for the last part of his career, but for me who was around in the 60s and 70s there are even greater ones like "En sång en gång för läng sen", "Hej clown" and "Om jag hade pengar".
You were right that it sounds theatrical, because it is from the musical "La Cage aux Folles", in which Jan Malmsjö played the leading character in 1985 at Malmö Stadsteater. What you find a bit repetitive on the record, of course comes off very differently on a stage, with all its fancy costumes, the choir turning in on the stage more and more, and also the dancing added to it by the Malmö Stadsteater Ballet. The song is performed close to the finale, so it is a summing up of the musical. Jan Malmsjö is acting as a transvestite, which surely had personal significance for him, as his father is said to have been a wellknown transvestite in Malmö. But Jan Malmsjö - allways adored by women all over Sweden - has not loived in that way himself. Although he could get any woman he wanted, he has been very faithful to his wives in his two very long marriages.
No. He is a great artist/actor his bishop in Fanny och Alexander is horribly good. But no, he woukd never had gotten me. Some men makes me feel like my hands would get oily if I touch them and he is one of them. I like his voice and artistry and acting, but that's all.
Another thing about Diggiloo Diggiley: It's so much about their performence! If you haven't alredy done that reacton, pick their live version in melodifestivalen or eurovision, in 1984! It's no big deal if you don't understand the lyrics in that song. 😅
Jan Malmsjö has made many recordings, many of which are Swedish classics. One of his biggest hits was "Bygga upp ett stort berg" (from the musical Stop the World, I Want to Get Off), which you should react to. Other of his big hits (his "bangers") are Swedish versions of English classics as "En sång en gång för längesen" (Green, Green Grass of Home", "Under alla broar", "Puff en pappersdrake", and the Swedish version of the beautiful French chanson "Snurra min jord" (Elle tourne la terre).
Really nice reaction! Yes, the lyrics is a bit repetitive, but the music is just so varied through the song that I think the song itself doesn't feel repetitive, also I think the message gets through that our best moment is now, as the music is basically doing the most of the moment, next reaction is a song I've been looking forward to seeing you react to, will be really fun to see :)
I think it feels more repetitive because you read the lyrics. If you just listen you don't think about it as much because it grows and you concentrate more on the music. And the next song is called Diggi-loo diggi-ley not diggi-lee :) definitely a classic.
The flyer for the *musical* La Cage aux Folles is literally up there in the left corner when you're playing the clip. Of course it's a banger, if you're into musical that is, as is Beethovens 5th symphony if that's your thing. It may be one of the more famous musical numbers along with If I Were a Rich Man, Memory, One Day More, Don't cry for me Argentina, Defying Gravity, My Favourite Things and a whole bunch of other famous songs. Jan Malmsjö, apart from singing has been a frequent actor on both the stage and in movies since the 1940s.

Wow, I didn't know that! But off course he should sang that song! 😃
Speaking of summer, Barfotavisan with Mats Paulson is really summery! 👣
En kväll i tunnelbanan - Noice
Sommarnatt - Snowstorm
Efter plugget - Factory
Always brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful!
Jan Malmsjö is a multi-talented national treassure.

Mona Sahlin ingick i barnkören på "Hej clown".
Du bör göra "Cecilia Lind" av Cornelis Vreeswijk.
Jaa, dags för mer Mello 😍 Herreys gav oss vår andra vinst i eurovision. 🥳

Storfiskarvalsen - Thore Skogman
This is from when I was ten, oh nostalgia. Thank you!
It is from a famous musical ”La cage aux folles”, a true classic. Keep up the good work! 👍
Here you have a real Swedish classic classic!
Looking forward to Herrey's, my childhood favorite idols! 😃

@@anna-karingronberg1942 Agree!
Just make sure you don't get the winning performance where they sing in english, this song should be in swedish!
This is their Eurovision performance. Audio is ok I think.

"Om jag hade pengar" ur Spelman på taket har han också gjort till sin.
Great reaction! This is actually from a musical, so you were spot on in your assessment of the feel of the song.

Fun fact: Jan Malmsjö also had a part in the 1966 Alfred Hitchcock movie Torn Curtain.
Jan Malmsjö is one of our best....You see him as a woman in your clip. "Birdcage".
If you wanna check out more of Jan Malmsjö I would recommend the song "Snurra min jord"

Nah I've always felt it was very repetitive too.

If I Were a Rich Man = Om jag hade pengar, är ju också Jans!
👌👌😁👌👌
Spot-on with your guess.
(Always thought this was a horrible song tbh.)
