  • The all new Mahindra Scorpio N is here and we have tested it thoroughly over all kinds of roads. The petrol-automatic with 200bhp is tested on highways and winding roads in the Western Ghats where we rate its comfort, handling and driver confidence. Then we drive the diesel-automatic with 4x4 on a slushy rain-lashed off-road trail to rate its off-roading ability. The new Scorpio N retains the body on frame chassis and RWD with optional 4x4 but is claimed to offer best-in-class dynamics and comfort. It goes up against D-segment SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour along with mid-size SUVs like the Creta, Seltos and even the Tata Harrier and Mahindra’s very own XUV 700. Does the Scorpio have what it stakes to straddle SUV segments? And is it an authentic SUV? Editor Sirish Chandran tests the Big Daddy of SUVs to find out

Becoz everything will be nice for brand new car...but what is real is we drive for years and wat about resale values....that was the point i think of new scorpio n will meet those aspects with the Toyota??!!

rightly said this is soo good. No matter what people say that old scorpio looks better and it has raw feel & all that. Its 2022 it was Old , utilitarian and no modern SUV buyer was looking at it. I cant think of a better upgrade than this. It has all the good stuff BOF, 4WD, Power, presence for 20ish lakh rupees. It has a few rough edges but these are small things and will be sorted out. The Road only looks better up ahead.

The very first scorpio in 2002 which came with the 2609 cc chain drive engine had smaller bubble rear lamps. The tall vertical rear lamps came along with the first facelift with the 2.6 Crde engine in 2007-2008.
But yes, this new Scorpio is a fantastic vehicle. I think it will give very strong honest competition to all those other wannabe SUVs out there. Good on Mahindra. They have as always kept things honest for the consumers.
BTW you’re right about the fact that the first lot of Scorpios came with Petrol engines from Renault. But back then the differential in prices between Petrol and Diesel because of the government subsidies was so much that most people flocked to Diesel.

@@sirishch Kind of enthusiasm and energy you put into car reviews are bit kind of benchmark. For Scorpio all thing was there, what I like here is each word was coming from your heart. And it was giving feeling that I’m also get connected with car and getting same feeling as you. That’s reason when this video started and ended pata hi nahi chala 👌

Most people are not even answering the Q in question if one will buy this or not. Maybe they are sitting and watching to just pick faults in the presenter. Adding, most won't even buy it and are not auto experts(now almost everyone is reviewing vehicles and posting online), I think they are self-made experts. Yes, this vehicle looks amazing, seems a great value for money, and will definitely sell in bulk(even the old one is still selling in good numbers). If you don't like it, who is asking you to buy it? If you don't like the rear lights, buy and get them changed, simple. Roomy cabin, class-leading powerful engine, super road presence, safety offerings..It will be a good product to buy surely. For one looking to buy his/her first, I doubt one is ready to wait endlessly(Thar/XUV ex). Most will still buy it, given the price range and VFM. Enjoy the Make-in-India SUV, made for India Scorpio-N, ready to sting all other D-segment rides.

    Sireesh.
The Scorpio N. Lower version looks nice with its functional steel wheels. After some more thought post the test drive today, I want to put down some questions and I do hope Mahindra will take these seriously and maybe answer them sometime.
Indeed I have put these kinds of questions down in 2004-2005 when I was buying my Bolero Sportz and again in 2007-2008 when I was buying my Scorpio. In the Bolero Sportz they simply would not give split foldable or indeed even full bench foldable rear seats to liberate more luggage space. And no 4WD option except on the GLX.
In the Scorpio they wouldn’t offer 4WD also easily. One had to order it specially and it was only available on the DX and later the GLX and VLX versions, never on the lower variants. And the Scorpio never had split foldable rear seats.
I did ask Dr Goenka at the time via email. But didn’t get much of an answer.
So now, in 2022, why can’t they provide a base variant of the Scorpio N with none of the gadgetry and technological electronic wizardry, except for functional things like the 6 seat configuration, TPMS, Navigation and a basic sound system but with the all important safety kit and functional kit like 4WD, traction control, ESP and so on?
If they would make a Z4 Plus version with all of the above and with steel wheels, along with a choice of MT or AT, it would provide super value to the utility focused consumer.
And why is it that the 4WD is not being given to consumers who want to opt for the Z8L 6 seater version rather than the 7 seater? Anyway we all know that the last row is all but redundant.
Somehow I always feel their marketing department or whoever the powers that are, who decide these features and variants, need to come out of their ivory towers once in a while and listen to common people who are more function focused than gizmo focussed.
I do hope there is someone in M&M who has been tasked with reading TBHP daily and making useful notes and taking it back to those blighted Corporate Committees. I suggest you also read the team bhp thread on the scorpio N reviews.
I am sure Velu, being the kind of man I think he is, will definitely listen. But he will have to over rule the clods in the marketing department.
It is about time Mahindra brought out a car configurator and allowed people to ‘build their own Scorpio’. Including all the accessories and tyres and all. That would indeed be the icing on the cake.

Sirish Sir, your reviews are one of the best. Hope you keep shining bright. With due respect, I'd like to correct your statement at 16:55 . I believe the correct definition as far as roll arm height and also concerning the diagram that you've shown, "roll arm height" would be the imaginary perpendicular distance from the Centre of Gravity to the imaginary line drawn from the front suspension roll center to the rear suspension roll center.

A very well summed up review 👌. Bee getting into the cabin was hilarious 😝. Just a thought, those considering the Virtus/Slavia 1.5 DSG can try out the Z8 petrol auto as well since the price range would be pretty close. For a few lakh extra you get 50 BHP and 130 nm more plus 2 extra seats and a reliable Torque converter. Not to forget, incredible comfort for long haul trips. Fun to drive element of the DSG is the only thing that you'll miss.
