Part 2 from my previous comment: There are 77 CAB files in Windows 98 CD, find the cab files and copy them to System32 folder, after that, no need to insert the CD anymore!

The only problem with Windows 98 it doesn't copy ALL the files from the CD. You can do this either through Windows Explorer or through Command Prompt

You can also install Windows XP 32-bit, which should run most older programs. Or you can install Windows ME, which, although many people don't like (I like it more than Windows 98SE), manages memory better.
This laptop was very good when it was released. I installed several versions of it and I loved the quality of the LCD monitor, which was easy to read and didn't tire my eyes as much as its competitors. 👑

That was a lucky one you did, lassie. Even if you did 4GB of RAM with Windows XP using a 500GB solid state drive is something you might try.
Windows XP was already installed on this laptop. Yes, it worked fine.

F6,enter 1 and auto 98 to xp at disc or card .
Instal at 1 enter
Ram SD you remove it on vj card DVD then flash Kingston now.
My first pc was running with windows 98. With 2.5 GB storage and RAM "only" 16MB (if I'm not mistaken). Still remember that old good times.

I have the exact laptop. I tried Windows 95 on it, had a few issues with drivers, but I'm going to keep Windows 7 on it.

I wondered why there was the _"(attempt)"_ in the title until I watched the video and found out that the installation didn't work as expected XD.
At least you did an awesome attempt at installing Windows 98, this is the first PC you show on your channel that can be considered _"old enough"!_ I grew up with Windows XP btw.
Also this idea of you talking in Ukrainian _(or Russian?)_ while the subtitles show the English translation is neat; you could very well employ this in your next videos so you could also feel comfortable with talking and not attempt to _"speak English badly"_ how you often say 😂😂
I also was unaware of the fact that too much RAM could make such an old OS unresponsive altogether, concept seems rather paradoxical.

Also in the comments they suggested to me that problems during installation arose not only due to RAM, but most likely also due to an unsuitable CPU.

It's right! When my family got the first laptop, Windows 7 was installed on it. When I was visiting my friends, Windows XP was installed on their computers (this was around 2006).

I think it will make no difference. SATA II speeds are limited, that machine can not take advantage of that ssd because of its speed, SATA III Speeds are 600mb/s theorical, while SATA II its 300mb/s (assuming thats its HDD Protocol, but if we are talking about IDE, its speed its about 133mb/s

This laptop is simply a little bit too "modern" for Windows 98, a Pentium 3 or AMD Athlon XP will work just fine. I'm impressed you managed to install it afterall.

This Acer with a Pentium D is completely unsuitable for Windows 98. It is much better to use something with a Pentium 3; such laptops can be found quite cheaply. Moreover, their design is much more interesting.

может мне кто-то объяснит, зачем сейчас нужен 98вин. апдейт не сделаешь, нужен набор драйверов для инсталляции видео карты и тд. на интернет на выйдешь. успел поработать с 3.11. у меня в 1995г. был 1й ПС с 95 вин. потом 98 альфа, за ним более стабильная бета. для хорошей работы раз в год форматировал и ставил всё снова, имел большую головную боль. Примерно, в 1993г. я нашел ПК (может это был и не ПК, даже не знаю, клава с 2мя слотами для больших дискет, которая подключалась к ТВ, вместо монитора) с инструкцией, можно было писать небольшие программы, фирму не помню. где то в это же время нашел на улице макинтош, полный набор, ПК, монитор, клава. нормальный хард драйв. только я не знал что хард драйв разбирать нельзя, вообщем убил его:)

okay well windows 98 isnt meant to be run on sata drives of any sorts i think also 2008 laptop is just too new
ram wise 1 gb and above is problematic
however im not saying its impossible
Try Win ME it supports ram upto 1gb
also you can get altered win98 too which is tuned to support 1gb
ive installed windows 2000 on a 2019 laptop before and all i had to do was install sata drivers to get it to boot
I've that kind of Acer Laptop but with AMD Turion 64 X2.
If you're a lucky star, you will have this.
RAM size is not the only problem with Windows 98. There is some excessive use of so-called timers, hardcoded in the system executables, so the whole Windows 98 didn't work with any CPU clocked higher than something about 1.7-1.8 GHz. There are also some workarounds but I I've forgotten them long ago. They were all a software CPU slow-down solution.
Moreover, Windows 98 does not work with discs larger than 127 GB. I don't mean the size of a single partition, I mean the amount of space used by all FAT32 partition together on any single storage drive, no matter HDD or SSD. Regardless of the drive size, only about 127 GB can be accessed by Windows 98. Any Windows 98's attempt to access to any address exceeding this limitation instantly kills the entire FAT32 partition. There were some workarounds for this, but they all were *extremely* unreliable. So, this has no solution, other than using no more than 127 GB of space on any drive which is a non-issue for SSD.
That’s why no one installs Windows 95-98. Its outdated, lacks support for modern hardware and is insecure by design.

The lowest that laptop will probably work with is Windows XP, maybe 2000 if you’re willing to track down XP drivers old enough to be cross-compatible (usually through lots of trial and error)
This laptop already had Windows XP installed and it worked. Win 2000 is a good idea. Thank you 👍👍👍
@@NatalieRetroStuffJust a word of advice, if the laptop starts running hotter when on idle: make sure that besides the usual steps for configuring Win 2000 to work on Dual-Core CPUs (you can search them online) you’ll also need to track down the SpeedStep applet so that it may dynamically control the clock frequency similarly to how XP does built-in since it’s also an Intel as the palmrest sticker shows. The applet doesn’t function correctly on dual-core until you adjust the processor affinity of the process executable to utilize both cores (also documented online as a workaround for playing retro games on such systems). Hopefully you’ll be able to figure it all out
Windows 98 was extremely bad. Windows NT4 and 2000 were fantastic.

Привіт! прикольний контент :) В часи віндовс 95-98 в онсновному компи мали 16-64 мб... в тих хто мав 128 були одиниці, а ті хто мали 256-512 ходили легенди але на сокет 370, 3 по 256 точно можна було встановити = 768 мб якшо було 3 слоти під дім пам*ять але це забагато для таких машинок. Також 98ма не вміє працювати з більше ніж 1но-ядреними процесорами але в теорії можна, похімічивши з файлами вінди, коротше кажучи ноут занадто сучасний для 98ї, а от для 2000ї або ХП буде норм :)

Краще вже на віртуалку ставити він98 в вже звідти щось крутити. Ноутбук взагалі не варіант, дуже багато специфічних драйверів, як 98а вінда взагалі побачила сата?.. В мене колись був ноутбук 2008 року, але я не пам'ятаю свої потуги запустити там він98.

I just pulled my Western Digal 13 gb out of a box full of junk. It has been shifting around in the box and collecting literal layers of dust for over a year. I pulled it out the cardboard box. Wiped it off, partitioned, formatted it. Still works just fine. Fine 1992 technology.
